BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sara vivió 127 años.	1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.
2 Murió Sara en Quiryat Arbá - que es Hebrón - en el país de Canaán, y Abraham hizo duelo por Sara y la lloró.	2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.
3 Luego se levantó Abraham de delante de la muerta, y habló a los hijos de Het en estos términos:	3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,
4 «Yo soy un simple forastero que reside entre vosotros. Dadme una propiedad sepulcral entre vosotros, para retirar y sepultar a mi muerta.»	4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'
5 Respondieron los hijos de Het a Abraham diciéndole:	5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,
6 «A ver si nos entendemos, señor; tú eres un príncipe divino entre nosotros. En el mejor de nuestros sepulcros sepulta a tu muerta. Ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro, para que entierres a tu muerta.»	6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'
7 Levantóse Abraham, e hizo una reverencia a los paisanos, a los hijos de Het,	7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,
8 y les habló en estos términos: «Si estáis de acuerdo con que yo retire y sepulte a mi muerta, escuchadme e interceded por mí ante Efrón, hijo de Sójar,	8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,
9 para que me dé la cueva de la Makpelá que es suya y que está al borde de su finca. Que me la dé por lo que valga en propiedad sepulcral entre vosotros.»	9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'
10 Efrón estaba sentado entre los hijos de Het. Respondió, pues, Efrón el hitita a Abraham, a oídas de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad diciendo:	10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.
11 «No, señor, escúchame: te doy la finca y te doy también la cueva que hay en ella. A la vista de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy: sepulta a tu muerta.»	11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'
12 Abraham hizo una reverencia a los paisanos,	12 Abraham bowed low to the local people
13 y se dirigió a Efrón, a oídas de los paisanos, diciendo: «A ver si nos entendemos. Te doy el precio de la finca acéptamelo y enterraré allí a mi muerta.»	13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'
14 Respondió Efrón a Abraham:	14 Ephron replied to Abraham,
15 «Señor mío, escúchame: Cuatrocientos siclos de plata por un terreno, ¿qué nos suponen a ti y a mí? Sepulta a tu muerta.»	15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'
16 Abraham accedió y pesó a Efrón la plata que éste había pedido a oídas de los hijos de Het: cuatrocientos siclos de plata corriente de mercader.	16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.
17 Así fue cómo la finca de Efrón que está en la Makpelá, frente a Mambré, la finca y la cueva que hay en ella y todos los árboles que rodean la finca por todos sus lindes, todo ello vino a ser	17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed
18 propiedad de Abraham, a la vista de los hijos de Het, y todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.	18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.
19 Después Abraham sepultó a su mujer Sara en la cueva del campo de la Makpelá frente a Mambré (es Hebrón), en Canaán.	19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.
20 Así aquel campo y la cueva que hay en él llegaron a ser de Abraham como propiedad sepulcral, recibida de los hijos de Het.	20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.
