BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 De Egipto subió Abram al Négueb, junto con su mujer y todo lo suyo, y acompañado de Lot.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 Abram era muy rico en ganado, plata y oro.	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 Caminando de acampada en acampada se dirigió desde el Négueb hasta Betel, hasta el lugar donde estuvo su tienda entre Betel y Ay,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 el lugar donde había invocado Abram el nombre de Yahveh.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 También Lot, que iba con Abram, tenía ovejas, vacadas y tiendas.	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 Ya la tierra no les permitía vivir juntos, porque su hacienda se había multiplicado, de modo que no podían vivir juntos.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 Hubo riña entre los pastores del ganado de Abram y los del ganado de Lot. (Además los cananeos y los perizitas habitaban por entonces en el país.)	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 Dijo, pues, Abram a Lot: «Ea, no haya disputas entre nosotros ni entre mis pastores y tus pastores, pues somos hermanos.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 ¿No tienes todo el país por delante? Pues bien, apártate de mi lado. Si tomas por la izquierda, yo iré por la derecha; y si tú por la derecha, yo por la izquierda.»	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 Lot levantó los ojos y vio toda la vega del Jordán, toda ella de regadío - eran antes de destruir Yahveh a Sodoma y Gomorra - como el jardín de Yahveh, como Egipto, hasta llegar a Soar.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Eligió, pues, Lot para sí toda la vega del Jordán, y se trasladó al oriente; así se apartaron el uno del otro.	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abram se estableció en Canaán y Lot en las ciudades de la vega, donde plantó sus tiendas hasta Sodoma.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 Los habitantes de Sodoma eran muy malos y pecadores contra Yahveh.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 Dijo Yahveh a Abram, después que Lot se separó de él: «Alza tus ojos y mira desde el lugar en donde estás hacia el norte, el mediodía, el oriente y el poniente.	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 Pues bien, toda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti ya tu descendencia por siempre.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 Haré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra: tal que si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también podrá contar tu descendencia.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Levántate, recorre el país a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque a ti te lo he de dar.»	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Y Abram vino a establecerse con sus tiendas junto a la encina de Mambré, que está en Hebrón, y edificó allí un altar a Yahveh.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
