Proverbi 21

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Simile a corsi d'acqua è il cuore del re in mano del Signore; a tutto ciò che vuole egli lo inclina.	1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.
2 Ogni strada dell'uomo è retta agli occhi suoi; ma colui che pesa i cuori è il Signore.	2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.
3 Praticare la giustizia e l'equità dal Signore è preferito al sacrificio.	3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.
4 Occhi alteri e cuore gonfio...: lampada dei malvagi è il peccato!	4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.
5 I progetti dell'uomo abile conducono all'abbondanza; ma chi si affretta certamente va in rovina.	5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.
6 Fare fortuna con una lingua bugiarda è vanità fugace di chi cerca la morte.	6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.
7 La violenza degli empi li porta via lontano, perché ricusano di agire onestamente.	7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.
8 Tortuosa è la via dell'uomo criminale; ma chi è puro agisce rettamente.	8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.
9 E' meglio abitar sotto l'angolo di un tetto che in una grande casa con una donna litigiosa.	9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.
10 L'anima dell'empio desidera il male, non trova grazia ai suoi occhi il suo vicino.	10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.
11 Quando il beffardo è castigato diviene saggio il semplice; quando il saggio è istruito egli accoglie la scienza.	11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.
12 Il Giusto osserva la casa dell'empio; egli precipita gli empi nella disgrazia.	12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.
13 Chi chiude l'orecchio al grido del povero, quando lui chiama, non riceve risposta.	13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.
14 Un dono fatto in segreto placa l'ira e un regalo sotto mano il violento furore.	14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.
15 E' gioia per il giusto operare l'equità, ma la distruzione è per chi fa il male.	15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.
16 L'uomo che devia dal sentiero della prudenza dimorerà nell'assemblea delle ombre.	16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.
17 Sarà indigente chi ama il piacere; chi ama il vino e l'olio non si arricchirà.	17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.
18 Riscatto per il giusto è l'uomo empio; al posto degli onesti c'è il ribelle.	18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.
19 E' meglio abitare in un deserto che con una donna litigiosa e amara.	19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.
20 Tesoro prezioso e olio son nella casa del saggio; ma l'uomo stolto li divora.	20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.
21 Chi persegue giustizia e bontà troverà vita e gloria.	21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.
22 Il sapiente scala una città agguerrita e si impossessa della forza in cui confida.	22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.
23 Chi custodisce la sua bocca e la sua lingua preserva se stesso dalle angosce.	23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.
24 Orgoglioso, superbo ha nome il beffardo; uno che opera con orgoglio smisurato.	24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.
25 Il desiderio uccide l'ignavo, perché le sue mani rifiutano l'agire.	25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.
26 L'empio continua sempre a volere; il giusto invece presta e mai rifiuta.	26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.
27 Il sacrificio degli empi è un abominio; quanto più se si offre per delitti.	27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.
28 Un falso testimonio perirà; ma chi ascolta parlerà per sempre.	28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.
29 L'uomo empio assume aria d'importanza; l'uomo retto consolida la sua strada.	29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.
30 Non c'è sapienza né intelligenza né consiglio che si oppongano al Signore.	30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.
31 Si equipaggia il cavallo per il giorno della lotta; ma al Signore appartiene la salvezza.	31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.
