1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them.	1 Die Seelen der Gerechten sind in Gottes Hand und keine Qual kann sie berühren.
2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction,	2 In den Augen der Toren sind sie gestorben, ihr Heimgang gilt als Unglück,
3 and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace.	3 ihr Scheiden von uns als Vernichtung; sie aber sind in Frieden.
4 For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality.	4 In den Augen der Menschen wurden sie gestraft; doch ihre Hoffnung ist voll Unsterblichkeit.
5 Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;	5 Ein wenig nur werden sie gezüchtigt; doch sie empfangen große Wohltat. Denn Gott hat sie geprüft und fand sie seiner würdig.
6 like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.	6 Wie Gold im Schmelzofen hat er sie erprobt und sie angenommen als ein vollgültiges Opfer.
7 In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble.	7 Beim Endgericht werden sie aufleuchten wie Funken, die durch ein Stoppelfeld sprühen.
8 They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever.	8 Sie werden Völker richten und über Nationen herrschen und der Herr wird ihr König sein in Ewigkeit.
9 Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.	9 Alle, die auf ihn vertrauen, werden die Wahrheit erkennen und die Treuen werden bei ihm bleiben in Liebe. Denn Gnade und Erbarmen wird seinen Erwählten zuteil.
10 But the ungodly will be punished as their reasoning deserves, who disregarded the righteous man and rebelled against the Lord;	10 Die Frevler aber werden für ihre Pläne bestraft, sie, die den Gerechten missachtet haben und vom Herrn abgefallen sind.
11 for whoever despises wisdom and instruction is miserable. Their hope is vain, their labors are unprofitable, and their works are useless.	11 Unglücklich sind alle, die Weisheit und Belehrung verachten; leer ist ihre Hoffnung, vergeblich sind ihre Mühen und wertlos ihre Taten.
12 Their wives are foolish, and their children evil;	12 Ihre Frauen sind unverständig und ihre Kinder böse, fluchbeladen ist ihr Geschlecht.
13 their offspring are accursed. For blessed is the barren woman who is undefiled, who has not entered into a sinful union; she will have fruit when God examines souls.	13 Selig ist die Kinderlose, die unschuldig blieb und kein Lager der Sünde kannte; sie wird gleich einer Mutter geehrt, wenn die Seelen ihren Lohn empfangen.
14 Blessed also is the eunuch whose hands have done no lawless deed, and who has not devised wicked things against the Lord; for special favor will be shown him for his faithfulness, and a place of great delight in the temple of the Lord.	14 Selig ist auch der Kinderlose, der sich nicht frevelhaft verging und gegen den Herrn nichts Böses plante; besondere Gnade wird seiner Treue zuteil und ein gar köstlicher Anteil am Tempel des Herrn.
15 For the fruit of good labors is renowned, and the root of understanding does not fail.	15 Denn ruhmreich ist der Lohn guter Mühe und unvergänglich die Wurzel der Klugheit.
16 But children of adulterers will not come to maturity, and the offspring of an unlawful union will perish.	16 Doch die Kinder von Ehebrechern verkümmern und die Nachkommen einer sündigen Verbindung schwinden dahin.
17 Even if they live long they will be held of no account, and finally their old age will be without honor.	17 Auch wenn sie lange leben, gelten sie nichts und ehrlos ist am Ende ihr Alter.
18 If they die young, they will have no hope and no consolation in the day of decision.	18 Sterben sie früh, so haben sie keine Hoffnung und keinen Trost am Tag des Gerichts;
19 For the end of an unrighteous generation is grievous.	19 denn schlimm ist das Ende eines schuldhaften Geschlechts.
