1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them.	1 Mas as almas dos justos estão na mão de Deus, e não os tocará nenhum tormento.
2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction,	2 Aos olhos dos insensatos parece que morreram, a sua saída deste mundo é considerada como uma infelicidade.
3 and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace.	3 e a sua separação de nós como um aniquilamento, mas eles estão em paz (no céu).
4 For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality.	4 Se eles sofreram tormentos aos olhos dos homens, a sua esperança está cheia de imortalidade.
5 Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;	5 Depois duma leve tribulação, receberão uma grande recompensa, porque Deus, que os provou, achou-os dignos de si.
6 like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.	6 Ele os provou como ouro na fornalha, e aceitou-os como um holocausto.
7 In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble.	7 Os justos resplandecerão no tempo da recompensa, propagar-se-ão como centelhas sobre o colmo.
8 They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever.	8 Julgarão as nações, dominarão os povos, e o Senhor reinará sobre eles para sempre.
9 Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.	9 Aqueles que confiam nele compreenderão a verdade, e os que são fiéis habitarão com ele no amor, porque a graça e a misericórdia são para os seus escolhidos.
10 But the ungodly will be punished as their reasoning deserves, who disregarded the righteous man and rebelled against the Lord;	10 Mas os ímpios terão o castigo segundo (a iniquidade) dos seus pensamentos, eles que não fizeram caso do justo e se afastaram do Senhor.
11 for whoever despises wisdom and instruction is miserable. Their hope is vain, their labors are unprofitable, and their works are useless.	11 Porque é desgraçado aquele que rejeita a sabedoria e a disciplina. A esperança destes maus é vã, os seus esforços infrutíferos, e inúteis as suas obras.
12 Their wives are foolish, and their children evil;	12 As suas mulheres são insensatas, malvados os seus filhos, maldita a sua posteridade.
13 their offspring are accursed. For blessed is the barren woman who is undefiled, who has not entered into a sinful union; she will have fruit when God examines souls.	13 Feliz a estéril e sem mancha, que não conheceu um tálamo pecaminoso; ela terá o seu fruto, quando Deus visitar as almas.
14 Blessed also is the eunuch whose hands have done no lawless deed, and who has not devised wicked things against the Lord; for special favor will be shown him for his faithfulness, and a place of great delight in the temple of the Lord.	14 (Feliz) também o eunuco cujas mãos não cometeram a iniquidade, que não teve pensamentos criminosos contra Deus, porque receberá uma recompensa de eleição devida à sua fidelidade, e uma sorte muito desejável no templo do Senhor,
15 For the fruit of good labors is renowned, and the root of understanding does not fail.	15 Porque o fruto dos bons trabalhos é glorioso, e a raiz da prudência é imperecível.
16 But children of adulterers will not come to maturity, and the offspring of an unlawful union will perish.	16 Porém os filhos dos adúlteros não atingirão o seu fim, e a descendência dum tálamo iníquo será exterminada.
17 Even if they live long they will be held of no account, and finally their old age will be without honor.	17 Ainda que tenham larga vida, serão reputados por nada, e a sua velhice finalmente será sem honra.
18 If they die young, they will have no hope and no consolation in the day of decision.	18 Se morrerem mais depressa, não terão esperança, nem consolação no dia do juízo.
19 For the end of an unrighteous generation is grievous.	19 porque os fins duma raça iníqua são funestos.
