1 Silver has its fissures where it is first found, and gold has a place where it is melted.	1 L'argent a une source de ses veines, et l'or un lieu où on l'épure.
2 Iron is taken from the earth, and ore, unbound by heat, is turned into brass.	2 Le fer se tire de la terre, et la pierre, fondue par la chaleur, se change en airain.
3 He has established a time for darkness, and he has settled on an end for all things, as well as for the stone that is in the gloom and shadow of death.	3 L'homme (Il, note) met fin aux ténèbres ; il considère lui-même la fin de toutes choses, et aussi la pierre ensevelie (cachée) dans l'obscurité et l'ombre de la mort.
4 The burning separates a pilgrim people from those who have been forgotten by the feet of the destitute man and from the unapproachable.	4 Le (Un) torrent sépare du (d'un) peuple voyageur (étranger) ceux qu'a oubliés le pied de l'homme pauvre, et qui sont hors de la voie (inaccessibles).
5 The land, where bread appeared in its place, has been destroyed by fire.	5 La (Une) terre, d'où le pain naissait comme de son lieu, a été bouleversée par le feu.
6 Its stones are embedded with sapphires, and its soil, with gold.	6 Le saphir se trouve dans ses pierres, et ses mottes (glèbes) sont de l'or.
7 The bird does not know its path, nor has the eye of the vulture beheld it.	7 L'oiseau en a ignoré la route, et l'œil du vautour ne l'a pas vue.
8 The sons of merchants have not walked there, nor has the lioness traveled through it.	8 Les fils des marchands n'y ont pas marché, et la lionne n'y a pas passé.
9 He has stretched out his hand to the rocks; he has overturned the foundations of the mountains.	9 Il a étendu sa main sur les (des) rochers ; il a renversé les (des) montagnes jusque dans leurs racines.
10 He has cut rivers through the rocks, and his eye has seen all precious things.	10 Il a taillé des ruisseaux dans les pierres, et son œil a vu tout ce qui est précieux.
11 The depths of rivers he has also examined, and he has brought hidden things into the light.	11 Il a scruté le fond des fleuves, et il a produit au jour les trésors cachés.
12 But, in truth, where is wisdom to be found, and where is the place of understanding?	12 Mais la sagesse, où la trouvera-t-on ? et quel est le lieu de l'intelligence ?
13 Man does not know its price, nor is it found in the land of those who live in sweetness.	13 L'homme en ignore le prix, et elle ne se trouve pas dans la terre de ceux qui vivent délicatement (dans les délices).
14 The abyss declares, “It is not in me.” And the sea says, “It is not with me.”	14 L'abîme dit : Elle n'est pas en moi ; et la mer aussi : Elle n'est pas avec moi.
15 The finest gold will not be paid for it, nor will silver be weighed in exchange for it.	15 Elle ne se donne pas pour l'or le plus pur, et elle ne s'achète pas au poids de l'argent (au poids).
16 It will not be compared with the dyed colors of India, nor with the very costly stone sardonyx, nor with the sapphire.	16 On ne la mettra pas en comparaison avec les étoffes teintes des Indes, ni avec la sardoine la plus précieuse, ou le saphir.
17 Neither gold nor crystal will be its equal; neither will vessels of gold be fitted for it.	17 On ne lui égalera ni l'or ni le verre, et on ne la donnera pas en échange pour des vases d'or.
18 The exalted and the eminent will not be remembered in comparison with it. Yet wisdom is drawn out of concealment.	18 Ce qu'il y a de plus grand et de plus élevé ne sera pas même mentionné auprès d'elle ; mais la sagesse se tire d'une source cachée.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia will not be equal to it, nor will it be compared to the purest dyes.	19 On ne la comparera pas avec la topaze d'Ethiopie, ni avec les teintures les plus éclatantes.
20 So then, where does wisdom begin, and where is the place of understanding?	20 D'où vient donc la sagesse ? et où l'intelligence se trouve-t-elle ?
21 It has been hidden from the eyes of all living things, just as the birds of the heavens escape notice.	21 Elle est cachée aux yeux de tous les vivants ; elle est inconnue même aux oiseaux du ciel.
22 Perdition and death have said, “With our ears, we have heard its fame.”	22 La perdition et la mort ont dit : Nous avons entendu parler d'elle (ouï son nom de nos oreilles).
23 God understands its way, and he knows its location.	23 C'est Dieu qui connaît (comprend) sa voie ; lui qui sait le lieu où elle habite.
24 For he beholds the limits of the world, and he looks upon all things that are under heaven.	24 Car il contemple les extrémités du monde, et il considère tout ce qui se passe sous le ciel.
25 He created a counterweight for the winds, and he suspended the waters to measure them.	25 C'est lui qui a réglé le poids des (aux) vents ; lui qui a pesé et mesuré les eaux (avec mesure).
26 At that time, he gave a law to the rain and a path to the resounding storms.	26 Lorsqu'il prescrivait une loi aux pluies, et un chemin (une voix (voie ?)) aux tempêtes retentissantes (tonnantes),
27 Then he saw and explained it, and he made ready and examined it.	27 alors il l'a vue, il l'a découverte, il l'a préparée (proclamée) et il l'a fondée (scrutée).
28 And he said to man, “Behold the fear of the Lord. Such is wisdom. And to withdraw from evil, this is understanding.”	28 Et il a dit à l'homme : La crainte du Seigneur, voilà la sagesse, et se retirer du mal, c'est l'intelligence.
