1 Samuel 24

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 From there David went up and installed himself in the strongholds of En-Gedi.	1 David monta de là et s'établit dans les refuges d'Engaddi.
2 Once Saul was back from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is now in the desert of En-Gedi.'	2 Quand Saül revint de la poursuite des Philistins, on lui rapporta ceci: "David est au désertd'Engaddi."
3 Saul thereupon took three thousand men selected from al Israel and went in search of David and hismen east of the Rocks of the Mountain Goats.	3 Alors Saül prit 3.000 hommes choisis dans tout Israël et partit à la recherche de David et de sesgens, à l'est des Rocs des Bouquetins.
4 He came to the sheepfolds along the route, where there was a cave, and went in to cover his feet.Now David and his men were sitting in the recesses of the cave;	4 Il arriva aux parcs à brebis qui sont près du chemin; il y a là une grotte où Saül entra pour secouvrir les pieds. Or David et ses gens étaient assis au fond de la grotte,
5 David's men said to him, 'Today is the day of which Yahweh said to you, "I shall deliver your enemyinto your power; do what you like with him." ' David got up and, unobserved, cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	5 et les gens de David lui dirent: "Voici le jour où Yahvé te dit: C'est moi qui livre ton ennemientre tes mains, traite-le comme il te plaît." David se leva et coupa furtivement le pan du manteau de Saül.
6 Afterwards David reproached himself for having cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	6 Après quoi, le coeur lui battit, d'avoir coupé le pan du manteau de Saül.
7 He said to his men, 'Yahweh preserve me from doing such a thing to my lord as to raise my handagainst him, since he is Yahweh's anointed.'	7 Il dit à ses hommes: "Yahvé me garde d'agir ainsi à l'égard de mon seigneur, de porter la mainsur lui, car il est l'oint de Yahvé."
8 By these words David restrained his men and would not let them attack Saul.	8 David coupa la parole à ses hommes et ne leur permit pas de se jeter sur Saül. Celui-ci quitta lagrotte et alla son chemin.
9 Saul then left the cave and went on his way. After this, David too left the cave and cal ed after Saul,'My lord king!' Saul looked behind him and David, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.	9 David se leva ensuite, sortit de la grotte et lui cria: "Monseigneur le roi!" Saül regarda derrièrelui et David s'inclina jusqu'à terre et se prosterna.
10 David then said to Saul, 'Why do you listen to people who say, "David intends your ruin"?	10 Puis David dit à Saül: "Pourquoi écoutes-tu les gens qui disent: Voici que David cherche tonmalheur?
11 This very day you have seen for yourself how Yahweh put you in my power in the cave and how,refusing to kil you, I spared you saying, "I wil not raise my hand against my lord, since he is Yahweh'sanointed."	11 En ce jour même, tes yeux ont vu comment Yahvé t'avait livré aujourd'hui entre mes mains dansla grotte, mais j'ai refusé de te tuer, je t'ai épargné et j'ai dit: Je ne porterai pas la main sur mon seigneur, car il estl'oint de Yahvé.
12 Look, father, look at the border of your cloak in my hand. Since, although I cut the border off yourcloak, I did not kil you, surely you realise that I intend neither mischief nor crime. I have not wronged you, andyet you hunt me down to take my life.	12 O mon père, vois, vois donc le pan de ton manteau dans ma main: puisque j'ai pu couper le pande ton manteau et que je ne t'ai pas tué, reconnais clairement qu'il n'y a chez moi ni méchanceté ni crime. Je n'aipas péché contre toi alors que, toi, tu tends des embûches à ma vie pour me l'enlever.
13 May Yahweh be judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me on you; but I shall neverlay a hand on you!	13 Que Yahvé soit juge entre moi et toi, que Yahvé me venge de toi, mais ma main ne te toucherapas!
14 (As the old proverb says: Wickedness comes out of wicked people, but I shal never lay a hand onyou!)	14 (Comme dit l'ancien proverbe: Des méchants sort la méchanceté et ma main ne te touchera pas.
15 On whose trail is the king of Israel campaigning? Whom are you pursuing? On the trail of a deaddog, of a flea!	15 Après qui le roi d'Israël s'est-il mis en campagne, après qui cours-tu? Après un chien crevé,après une simple puce!
16 May Yahweh be the judge and decide between me and you; may he examine and defend my causeand give judgement for me by rescuing me from your clutches!'	16 Que Yahvé soit l'arbitre, qu'il juge entre moi et toi, qu'il examine et défende ma cause et qu'ilme rende justice en me délivrant de ta main!"
17 When David had finished saying this to Saul, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' And Saulbegan to weep aloud.	17 Lorsque David eut achevé de parler ainsi à Saül, celui-ci dit: "Est-ce bien ta voix, mon filsDavid?" Et Saül se mit à crier et à pleurer.
18 'You are upright and I am not,' he said to David, 'since you have behaved wel to me, whereas I havebehaved badly to you.	18 Puis il dit à David: "Tu es plus juste que moi, car tu m'as fait du bien et moi je t'ai fait du mal.
19 And today you have shown how well you have behaved to me, since Yahweh had put me in yourpower but you did not kil me.	19 Aujourd'hui, tu as révélé ta bonté pour moi, puisque Yahvé m'avait livré entre tes mains et quetu ne m'as pas tué.
20 When a man comes on his enemy, does he let him go unmolested? May Yahweh reward you for thegood you have done me today!	20 Quand un homme rencontre son ennemi, le laisse-t-il aller bonnement son chemin? Que Yahvéte récompense pour le bien que tu m'as fait aujourd'hui.
21 Now I know that you wil indeed reign and that the sovereignty in Israel wil pass into your hands.	21 Maintenant, je sais que tu régneras sûrement et que la royauté sur Israël sera ferme en tes mains.
22 Now swear to me by Yahweh that you wil not suppress my descendants once I am gone, or blot myname out of my family.'	22 Jure-moi donc par Yahvé que tu ne feras pas disparaître mon nom de ma famille."
23 This David swore to Saul, and Saul went home while David and his men went back to the stronghold.	23 David prêta serment à Saül. Celui-ci s'en alla chez lui, tandis que David et ses gens remontaientau refuge.
