1 Samuel 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 From there David went up and installed himself in the strongholds of En-Gedi.	1 Subió de allí David y se asentó en los refugios de Engadí.
2 Once Saul was back from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is now in the desert of En-Gedi.'	2 Cuando regresó Saúl de perseguir a los filisteos, le avisaron: «David está en el desierto de Engadí».
3 Saul thereupon took three thousand men selected from al Israel and went in search of David and hismen east of the Rocks of the Mountain Goats.	3 Tomó entonces Saúl 3.000 hombres selectos de todo Israel y partió en busca de David y de sus hombres al este del roquedal de Yeelim.
4 He came to the sheepfolds along the route, where there was a cave, and went in to cover his feet.Now David and his men were sitting in the recesses of the cave;	4 Llegó a unos rediles de ganado junto al camino; había allí una cueva y Saúl entró en ella para hacer sus necesidades. David y sus hombres estaban instalados en el fondo de la cueva.
5 David's men said to him, 'Today is the day of which Yahweh said to you, "I shall deliver your enemyinto your power; do what you like with him." ' David got up and, unobserved, cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	5 Los hombres de David le dijeron: «Mira, este es el día que Yahveh te anunció: Yo pongo a tu enemigo en tus manos, haz de él lo que te plazca». Levantóse David y silenciosamente cortó la punta del manto de Saúl.
6 Afterwards David reproached himself for having cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	6 Después su corazón le latía fuertemente por haber cortado la punta del manto de Saúl,
7 He said to his men, 'Yahweh preserve me from doing such a thing to my lord as to raise my handagainst him, since he is Yahweh's anointed.'	7 y dijo a sus hombres: «Yahveh me libre de hacer tal cosa a mi señor y de alzar mi mano contra él, porque es el ungido de Yahveh».
8 By these words David restrained his men and would not let them attack Saul.	8 David habló con energía a sus hombres para que no se lanzasen contra Saúl. Saúl marchó de la cueva y continuó su camino,
9 Saul then left the cave and went on his way. After this, David too left the cave and cal ed after Saul,'My lord king!' Saul looked behind him and David, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.	9 tras lo cual se levantó David, salió de la cueva y gritó detrás de Saúl: «¡Oh rey, mi señor!» Volvió Saúl la vista, e inclinándose David, rostro en tierra, se postró ante él,
10 David then said to Saul, 'Why do you listen to people who say, "David intends your ruin"?	10 y dijo David a Saúl: «¿Por qué escuchas a las gentes que te dicen: David busca tu ruina?
11 This very day you have seen for yourself how Yahweh put you in my power in the cave and how,refusing to kil you, I spared you saying, "I wil not raise my hand against my lord, since he is Yahweh'sanointed."	11 Hoy mismo han visto tus ojos que Yahveh te ha puesto en mis manos en la cueva, pero no he querido matarte, te he perdonado, pues me he dicho: No alzaré mi mano contra mi señor, porque es el ungido de Yahveh.
12 Look, father, look at the border of your cloak in my hand. Since, although I cut the border off yourcloak, I did not kil you, surely you realise that I intend neither mischief nor crime. I have not wronged you, andyet you hunt me down to take my life.	12 Mira, padre mío, mira la punta de tu manto en mi mano; si he cortado la punta de tu manto y no te he matado, reconoce y mira que no hay en mi camino maldad ni crimen, ni he pecado contra ti, mientras que tú me pones insidias para quitarme la vida.
13 May Yahweh be judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me on you; but I shall neverlay a hand on you!	13 Que juzgue Yahveh entre los dos y que Yahveh me vengue de ti, pero mi mano no te tocará,
14 (As the old proverb says: Wickedness comes out of wicked people, but I shal never lay a hand onyou!)	14 pues como dice el antiguo proverbio: De los malos sale malicia, pero mi mano no te tocará.
15 On whose trail is the king of Israel campaigning? Whom are you pursuing? On the trail of a deaddog, of a flea!	15 ¿Contra quién sale el rey de Israel, a quién estás persiguiendo? A un perro muerto, a una pulga.
16 May Yahweh be the judge and decide between me and you; may he examine and defend my causeand give judgement for me by rescuing me from your clutches!'	16 Que Yahveh juzgue y sentencie entre los dos, que él vea y defienda mi causa y me haga justicia librándome de tu mano».
17 When David had finished saying this to Saul, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' And Saulbegan to weep aloud.	17 Cuando David hubo acabado de decir estas palabras a Saúl, dijo Saúl: «¿Es ésta tu voz, hijo mío David?» Y alzando Saúl su voz, rompió a llorar,
18 'You are upright and I am not,' he said to David, 'since you have behaved wel to me, whereas I havebehaved badly to you.	18 y dijo a David: «Más justo eres tú que yo, pues tú me haces beneficios y yo te devuelvo males;
19 And today you have shown how well you have behaved to me, since Yahweh had put me in yourpower but you did not kil me.	19 hoy has mostrado tu bondad, pues Yahveh me ha puesto en tus manos y no me has matado.
20 When a man comes on his enemy, does he let him go unmolested? May Yahweh reward you for thegood you have done me today!	20 ¿Qué hombre encuentra a su enemigo y le permite seguir su camino en paz? Que Yahveh te premie por el bien que hoy me has hecho.
21 Now I know that you wil indeed reign and that the sovereignty in Israel wil pass into your hands.	21 Ahora tengo por cierto que reinarás y que el reino de Israel se afirmará en tus manos.
22 Now swear to me by Yahweh that you wil not suppress my descendants once I am gone, or blot myname out of my family.'	22 Ahora, pues, júrame por Yahveh que no exterminarás mi descendencia después de mí y que no borrarás mi nombre de la casa de mi padre».
23 This David swore to Saul, and Saul went home while David and his men went back to the stronghold.	23 David se lo juró a Saúl. Saúl se fue a su casa y David y sus hombres subieron al refugio.
