1 Samuel 24

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 From there David went up and installed himself in the strongholds of En-Gedi.	1 E, come Saulle fu ritornato di dietro a’ Filistei, gli fu rapportato e detto: Ecco, Davide è nel deserto di En-ghedi.
2 Once Saul was back from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is now in the desert of En-Gedi.'	2 Allora Saulle prese tremila uomini scelti d’infra tutto Israele, e andò per cercar Davide e la sua gente, su per le rupi delle camozze.
3 Saul thereupon took three thousand men selected from al Israel and went in search of David and hismen east of the Rocks of the Mountain Goats.	3 E, giunto alle mandre delle pecore, in su la via ov’è una spelonca, Saulle entrò per fare i suoi bisogni naturali; e Davide e la sua gente erano assettati nel fondo della spelonca.
4 He came to the sheepfolds along the route, where there was a cave, and went in to cover his feet.Now David and his men were sitting in the recesses of the cave;	4 E la gente di Davide gli disse: Ecco il giorno che il Signore ti ha detto: Ecco io ti do il tuo nemico nelle mani, e tu gli farai come ti piacerà. Allora Davide si levò, e pianamente tagliò il lembo dell’ammanto di Saulle.
5 David's men said to him, 'Today is the day of which Yahweh said to you, "I shall deliver your enemyinto your power; do what you like with him." ' David got up and, unobserved, cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	5 E, dopo questo, il cuore battè a Davide, perchè egli avea tagliato il lembo dell’ammanto di Saulle.
6 Afterwards David reproached himself for having cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	6 E disse alla sua gente: Tolga il Signore da me che io faccia questo al mio signore, all’Unto del Signore, che io gli metta la mano addosso; conciossiachè egli sia l’Unto del Signore.
7 He said to his men, 'Yahweh preserve me from doing such a thing to my lord as to raise my handagainst him, since he is Yahweh's anointed.'	7 E Davide, con parole, stolse da ciò la sua gente, e non le permise di levarsi contro a Saulle. E Saulle, levatosi dalla spelonca, se ne andava a suo cammino.
8 By these words David restrained his men and would not let them attack Saul.	8 E Davide si levò, e uscì fuori della spelonca, e gridò dietro a Saulle, dicendo: O re, mio signore. E Saulle riguardò dietro a sè. E Davide s’inchinò con la faccia verso terra, e si prostese
9 Saul then left the cave and went on his way. After this, David too left the cave and cal ed after Saul,'My lord king!' Saul looked behind him and David, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.	9 E Davide disse a Saulle: Perchè attendi alle parole delle genti che dicono: Ecco, Davide procaccia il tuo male?
10 David then said to Saul, 'Why do you listen to people who say, "David intends your ruin"?	10 Ecco, pur oggi, gli occhi tuoi veggono che il Signore ti avea oggi dato in mano mia, nella spelonca, ed alcuno parlò di ucciderti; ma la mia mano ti ha risparmiato; ed io ho detto: Io non metterò la mano addosso al mio signore; perciocchè egli è l’Unto del Signore.
11 This very day you have seen for yourself how Yahweh put you in my power in the cave and how,refusing to kil you, I spared you saying, "I wil not raise my hand against my lord, since he is Yahweh'sanointed."	11 Ora, padre mio, vedi, vedi pure il lembo del tuo ammanto che io ho in mano mia; e poichè, quando io tagliai il lembo del tuo ammanto, non ti uccisi, sappi e vedi che nella mia mano non vi è male, nè misfatto alcuno, e che io non ho peccato contro a te; e pur tu vai a caccia della vita mia, per tormela.
12 Look, father, look at the border of your cloak in my hand. Since, although I cut the border off yourcloak, I did not kil you, surely you realise that I intend neither mischief nor crime. I have not wronged you, andyet you hunt me down to take my life.	12 Il Signore giudichi fra me e te, e il Signore mi vendichi di te; ma io non metterò la mia mano sopra te.
13 May Yahweh be judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me on you; but I shall neverlay a hand on you!	13 Come dice il proverbio degli antichi: L’empietà proceda dagli empi; ma io non metterò la mia mano sopra te.
14 (As the old proverb says: Wickedness comes out of wicked people, but I shal never lay a hand onyou!)	14 Dietro a cui è uscito il re di Israele? chi vai tu perseguitando? un can morto, una pulce.
15 On whose trail is the king of Israel campaigning? Whom are you pursuing? On the trail of a deaddog, of a flea!	15 Il Signore adunque sia giudice, e giudichi fra me e te, e vegga e mantenga la mia causa, e mi faccia ragione, riscotendomi dalla tua mano
16 May Yahweh be the judge and decide between me and you; may he examine and defend my causeand give judgement for me by rescuing me from your clutches!'	16 E, quando Davide ebbe fornito di dire queste parole a Saulle, Saulle disse: È questa la tua voce, Davide, figliuol mio? E alzò la voce, e pianse.
17 When David had finished saying this to Saul, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' And Saulbegan to weep aloud.	17 E disse a Davide: Tu sei più giusto di me; perciocchè tu mi hai renduto bene per male; là dove io ti ho renduto male per bene.
18 'You are upright and I am not,' he said to David, 'since you have behaved wel to me, whereas I havebehaved badly to you.	18 E tu mi hai oggi fatto conoscere come tu sei sempre proceduto bene inverso me; conciossiachè il Signore mi avesse messo nelle tue mani; e pur tu non mi hai ucciso.
19 And today you have shown how well you have behaved to me, since Yahweh had put me in yourpower but you did not kil me.	19 E, se alcuno trovasse il suo nemico, lo lascerebbe egli andare benignamente? Il Signore adunque ti renda del bene in iscambio di ciò che tu mi hai oggi fatto.
20 When a man comes on his enemy, does he let him go unmolested? May Yahweh reward you for thegood you have done me today!	20 Ed ora, ecco, io so che per certo tu regnerai, e che il regno di Israele sarà fermo nelle tue mani.
21 Now I know that you wil indeed reign and that the sovereignty in Israel wil pass into your hands.	21 Ora dunque giurami per lo Signore, che tu non distruggerai la mia progenie dopo me, e che tu non isterminerai il mio nome dalla famiglia di mio padre.
22 Now swear to me by Yahweh that you wil not suppress my descendants once I am gone, or blot myname out of my family.'	22 E Davide giurò a Saulle. Poi Saulle se ne andò a casa sua. E Davide e la sua gente salirono alla fortezza
23 This David swore to Saul, and Saul went home while David and his men went back to the stronghold.
