1 Samuel 22

1 David left there and took refuge in the Cave of Adul am; his brothers and his father's whole familyheard this and joined him there.	1 Davide partì di là e si mise in salvo nella grotta di Adullàm. Quando lo seppero i suoi fratelli e tutta la casa di suo padre, scesero laggiù da lui.
2 Al those in distress, al those in debt, al those who had a grievance, gathered round him and hebecame their leader. There were about four hundred men with him.	2 Si radunò intorno a lui chiunque era in strettezze, chiunque aveva un creditore e chiunque aveva la vita amareggiata: egli diventò loro capo. Erano con lui circa quattrocento uomini.
3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, 'Allow my father and motherto stay with you until I know what God intends to do for me.'	3 Poi Davide andò da lì a Mizpa di Moab e disse al re di Moab: "Possa ritirarsi mio padre con mia madre presso di voi fino a che io sappia quello che Dio farà per me".
4 He left them with the king of Moab and there they stayed all the time that David was in the stronghold.	4 Li presentò al re di Moab, ed essi rimasero con lui tutto il tempo della permanenza di Davide nella fortezza.
5 The prophet Gad, however, said to David, 'Do not stay in the stronghold; leave and make your wayinto the territory of Judah.' David then left and went to the forest of Hereth.	5 Il profeta Gad disse a Davide: "Non rimanere nella fortezza, ma inóltrati nella terra di Giuda". Davide partì e s'inoltrò nella foresta di Cheret.
6 When Saul heard that David and the men with him had been discovered, Saul was at Gibeah, seatedunder the tamarisk on the high place, spear in hand, with al his staff standing round him.	6 Saul aveva saputo che Davide era stato scoperto insieme con gli uomini che erano con lui. Saul stava a Gàbaa sotto il tamarisco sull'altura, con la sua lancia in mano, e tutti i suoi cortigiani lo attorniavano.
7 'Listen, Benjaminites!' said Saul to them, 'Is the son of Jesse going to give you all fields and vineyardsand make al of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds	7 Saul disse ai suoi cortigiani che lo assistevano: "Ascoltate, Beniaminiti! Forse che il figlio di Iesse darà anche a tutti voi campi e vigne, vi costituirà tutti capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia,
8 that you al conspire against me? No one warned me when my son made a pact with the son of Jesse;none of you felt sorry for me or warned me when my son incited my servant to become my enemy, as he is now.'	8 perché avete fatto congiura tutti quanti contro di me? Non c'è stato uno che mi abbia avvertito quando mio figlio strinse un patto con il figlio di Iesse! E non c'è tra voi uno che si ammali per me e mi avverta che mio figlio ha suscitato il mio servo contro di me per tendermi insidie come avviene quest'oggi!".
9 Then, up spoke Doeg the Edomite, who was in command of Saul's staff, 'I saw the son of Jessecoming to Nob, to Ahimelech son of Ahitub.	9 Rispose Doeg, l'idumeo, che stava con i cortigiani di Saul: "Ho veduto il figlio di Iesse che è venuto a Nob da Achimelech, figlio di Achitub.
10 That man consulted Yahweh on his behalf, gave him provisions and also the sword of Goliath thePhilistine.'	10 Questi ha consultato il Signore per lui, gli ha dato provvigioni e gli ha consegnato pure la spada di Golia il filisteo".
11 The king then sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub and his whole family, the priests of Nob;they al came to the king.	11 Il re mandò a chiamare il sacerdote Achimelech, figlio di Achitub, e tutta la casa di suo padre, i sacerdoti che erano a Nob. Ed essi andarono tutti insieme dal re.
12 Saul said, 'Now listen, son of Ahitub!' He replied, 'Here I am, my lord.'	12 Disse Saul: "Ascolta dunque, figlio di Achitub!". Gli rispose: "Eccomi, o mio signore!".
13 'Why have you conspired against me,' said Saul, 'you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and asword and consulting God on his behalf, for him to rebel against me as is now the case?'	13 Saul gli disse: "Perché avete fatto congiura contro di me, tu e il figlio di Iesse, quando tu gli hai dato pane e spada e hai consultato Dio per lui, affinché si levasse contro di me come oppositore, com'è quest'oggi?".
14 Ahimelech replied to the king, 'Of al those in your service, who is more loyal than David son-in-law tothe king, captain of your bodyguard, honoured in your household?	14 Achimelech rispose al re: "Ma tra tutti i tuoi cortigiani chi è come Davide: fedele, genero del re, aggregato alla tua guardia, onorato nella tua casa?
15 Was today the first time I ever consulted God on his behalf? Indeed it was not! The king has nogrounds for bringing any charge against his servant or against his whole family, for your servant knew nothingwhatever about al this.'	15 E' oggi che ho cominciato a consultare Dio per lui? Non sia mai! Il re non imputi al suo servo e a tutta la casa di mio padre alcun misfatto, perché il tuo servo non conosceva di tutto ciò né poco né molto".
16 The king retorted, 'You must die, Ahimelech, you and your whole family.'	16 Il re rispose: "Achimelech, certamente morrai, tu e tutta la famiglia di tuo padre".
17 The king said to the scouts who were standing round him, 'Forward! and put the priests of Yahweh todeath, for they too are on David's side, they knew that he was escaping, yet did not warn me of it.' The king'sprofessional soldiers, however, would not lift a hand to strike the priests of Yahweh.	17 Il re ordinò agli ufficiali che lo assistevano: "Volgetevi e uccidete i sacerdoti del Signore, perché anch'essi hanno dato la mano a Davide. Essi sapevano che quello stava fuggendo, ma non mi hanno avvertito". Ma i cortigiani del re non vollero stendere la loro mano per colpire i sacerdoti del Signore.
18 The king then said to Doeg, 'Forward, you! Fall on the priests!' Doeg the Edomite stepped forwardand fel on the priests, himself that day kil ing eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.	18 Allora il re disse a Doeg: "Volgiti tu e colpisci i sacerdoti". Doeg l'idumeo, lui sì, si volse e colpì i sacerdoti, uccise in quel giorno ottantacinque uomini che portavano l'efod di lino.
19 Nob, the town of the priests, Saul put to the sword: men and women, children and infants, cattle,donkeys and sheep.	19 Nob poi, città dei sacerdoti, la passò a fil di spada: uomini e donne, bambini e lattanti, buoi, asini e pecore.
20 One son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub alone escaped. His name was Abiathar, and he fled away to joinDavid.	20 Si salvò solo un figlio di Achimelech, figlio di Achitub, di nome Ebiatar, il quale se ne fuggì al seguito di Davide.
21 When Abiathar told David that Saul had slaughtered the priests of Yahweh,	21 Ebiatar annunziò a Davide che Saul aveva ucciso i sacerdoti del Signore.
22 David said to Abiathar, 'I knew, that day when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would be sure toinform Saul. I am responsible for the death of all your kinsmen.	22 Davide disse a Ebiatar: "Sapevo in quel giorno che Doeg l'idumeo, lì presente, l'avrebbe certamente riferito a Saul. Mi sono volto io contro la vita di tutti quelli della casa di tuo padre!
23 Stay with me, do not be afraid, for he who seeks your life seeks mine; you wil be safe with me.'	23 Rimani con me, non avere paura! Perché chi cerca la vita mia cerca la tua, per questo sarai ben custodito presso di me".
