1 David left there and took refuge in the Cave of Adul am; his brothers and his father's whole familyheard this and joined him there.	1 Davidde adunque andò via, e si rifuggì nella caverna di Odollam. La qual cosa essendo andata alle orecchie dei suoi fratelli, e di tutta la famiglia del padre suo, andaron colà a trovarlo.
2 Al those in distress, al those in debt, al those who had a grievance, gathered round him and hebecame their leader. There were about four hundred men with him.	2 E si raunarono presso di lui tutti quelli che si trovavano in angustie, ed erano oppressi da debiti, e afflitti di spinto: e diventò loro capo ed ebbe con se circa quattrocento uomini.
3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, 'Allow my father and motherto stay with you until I know what God intends to do for me.'	3 E partitosi da quel luogo andò David a Maspha di Moab, e disse al re di Moab: Resti, ti prego, il padre mio, e la mia madre con voi sino a tanto che io sappia quello che Dio disponga di me.
4 He left them with the king of Moab and there they stayed all the time that David was in the stronghold.	4 E lasciogli presso al re di Moab: e ivi rimasero per tutto il tempo che David si stette in quella fortezza.
5 The prophet Gad, however, said to David, 'Do not stay in the stronghold; leave and make your wayinto the territory of Judah.' David then left and went to the forest of Hereth.	5 Ma Gad profeta disse a David: non istar più nella fortezza, ma parti, e va nella terra di Giuda. E Davidde partì, e andò nella selva di Haret.
6 When Saul heard that David and the men with him had been discovered, Saul was at Gibeah, seatedunder the tamarisk on the high place, spear in hand, with al his staff standing round him.	6 E Saul seppe che David, e la gente che lo seguiva, erano comparsi. Or Saulle stando in Gabaa, ed essendo una volta nel bosco, che è a Rama, avendo in mano la lancia, e intorno a sè tutti i suoi servi,
7 'Listen, Benjaminites!' said Saul to them, 'Is the son of Jesse going to give you all fields and vineyardsand make al of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds	7 Disse a quelli che lo corteggiavano: Ascoltate adesso, figliuoli di Jemini: forse che il figliuolo d'Isai darà a voi tutti de' poderi, e delle vigne, e faravvi tutti tribuni e centurioni,
8 that you al conspire against me? No one warned me when my son made a pact with the son of Jesse;none of you felt sorry for me or warned me when my son incited my servant to become my enemy, as he is now.'	8 Che avete congiurato tutti contro di me, e non havvi chi mi rechi verun avviso, particolarmente dopo che il mio figliuolo ha fatto alleanza col figliuolo d'Isai? Non v'ha alcuno di voi che compiange la mia sorte, o mi dia consiglio: mentre il mio figliuolo ha animato contro di me il mio servo, il quale sino a quest'oggi mi tende insidie.
9 Then, up spoke Doeg the Edomite, who was in command of Saul's staff, 'I saw the son of Jessecoming to Nob, to Ahimelech son of Ahitub.	9 Rispose Doeg Idumeo, che era presente, e il primo tra' servi di Saul, e disse: Io vidi il figliuolo d'Isai a Nobe presso il sacerdote Achimelech, figliuolo di Achitob:
10 That man consulted Yahweh on his behalf, gave him provisions and also the sword of Goliath thePhilistine.'	10 Il quale consultò il Signore per lui, e gli diede dei viveri: e di più gli diede anche la spada di Goliath Filisteo.
11 The king then sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub and his whole family, the priests of Nob;they al came to the king.	11 Allora il re mandò a chiamare Achimelech sacerdote, figliuolo di Achitob, e tutti i sacerdoti della casa di lui, che erano in Nobe, i quali tutti si presentarono al re.
12 Saul said, 'Now listen, son of Ahitub!' He replied, 'Here I am, my lord.'	12 E Saul disse ad Achimelech: Ascolta, figliuolo di Achitob. Ed egli rispose: Son qui, o signore.
13 'Why have you conspired against me,' said Saul, 'you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and asword and consulting God on his behalf, for him to rebel against me as is now the case?'	13 E dissegli Saul: Per qual motivo avete congiurato contro di me tu, e il figliuolo d’Isai, e tu gli hai dato dei pani, e la spada, e hai consultato Dio per lui, affinchè si levasse egli a ribellione contro di me, e continuasse fino al dì d'oggi?
14 Ahimelech replied to the king, 'Of al those in your service, who is more loyal than David son-in-law tothe king, captain of your bodyguard, honoured in your household?	14 E Achimelech rispose al re, e disse: E chi vi ha tra tutti i tuoi servi fedele, come David genero del re, e pronto al tuo comando e rispettato nella tua casa?
15 Was today the first time I ever consulted God on his behalf? Indeed it was not! The king has nogrounds for bringing any charge against his servant or against his whole family, for your servant knew nothingwhatever about al this.'	15 Ho io forse principiato adesso a consultare Dio per lui? Lungi da me tal cosa: e tu o re, non sospettar di tal cosa riguardo al tuo servo, nè riguardo a tutta la casa del padre mio: imperocché nulla ha saputo il tuo servo di queste cose nè poco, nè molto.
16 The king retorted, 'You must die, Ahimelech, you and your whole family.'	16 E il re disse: Tu morrai senz'altro, Achimelech, tu e tutta la casa del padre tuo.
17 The king said to the scouts who were standing round him, 'Forward! and put the priests of Yahweh todeath, for they too are on David's side, they knew that he was escaping, yet did not warn me of it.' The king'sprofessional soldiers, however, would not lift a hand to strike the priests of Yahweh.	17 E il re disse alle guardie, che gli erano d'intorno: Circondate, e uccidete i sacerdoti del Signore; perocché sono d'accordo con Davidde, e sapevano che egli era fuggito, e non me ne han dato parte. Ma i servi del re non vollero stender le loro mani contro i sacerdoti del Signore.
18 The king then said to Doeg, 'Forward, you! Fall on the priests!' Doeg the Edomite stepped forwardand fel on the priests, himself that day kil ing eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.	18 E il re disse a Doeg: Va tu, e gettati sopra i sacerdoti. E Doeg Idumeo andò, e si gettò sopra i sacerdoti, e trucidò in quel giorno ottantacinque uomini che portavano l’Ephod di lino.
19 Nob, the town of the priests, Saul put to the sword: men and women, children and infants, cattle,donkeys and sheep.	19 E in Nobe città dei sacerdoti mise a fil di spada uomini, e donne, fanciulli, e bambini di latte, i bovi eziandio, e gli asini, e le pecore.
20 One son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub alone escaped. His name was Abiathar, and he fled away to joinDavid.	20 Ma un figliuolo di Achimelech, figliuolo di Achitob, che avea nome Abiathar, si rifuggì presso a Davidde,
21 When Abiathar told David that Saul had slaughtered the priests of Yahweh,	21 E portogli la nuova che Saul avea uccisi i sacerdoti del Signore.
22 David said to Abiathar, 'I knew, that day when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would be sure toinform Saul. I am responsible for the death of all your kinsmen.	22 E disse David ad Abiathar: Io sapeva in quel dì, che essendo ivi Doeg Idumeo, avrebbe senza dubbio avvertito Saul: io son reo della morte di tutta la casa del padre tuo.
23 Stay with me, do not be afraid, for he who seeks your life seeks mine; you wil be safe with me.'	23 Restati meco: non temere: chi cercherà la mia vita, cercherà anche la tua, e meco pure avrai salute.
