1 Samuel 22

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 David left there and took refuge in the Cave of Adul am; his brothers and his father's whole familyheard this and joined him there.	1 David partit de là et se réfugia dans la grotte d'Adullam. Ses frères et toute sa famille l'apprirentet descendirent l'y rejoindre.
2 Al those in distress, al those in debt, al those who had a grievance, gathered round him and hebecame their leader. There were about four hundred men with him.	2 Tous les gens en détresse, tous ceux qui avaient des créanciers, tous les mécontents serassemblèrent autour de lui et il devint leur chef. Il y avait avec lui environ 400 hommes.
3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, 'Allow my father and motherto stay with you until I know what God intends to do for me.'	3 De là, David se rendit à Miçpé de Moab et dit au roi de Moab: "Permets que mon père et mamère restent avec vous jusqu'à ce que je sache ce que Dieu fera pour moi."
4 He left them with the king of Moab and there they stayed all the time that David was in the stronghold.	4 Il les laissa chez le roi de Moab et ils restèrent avec celui-ci tout le temps que David fut dans lerefuge.
5 The prophet Gad, however, said to David, 'Do not stay in the stronghold; leave and make your wayinto the territory of Judah.' David then left and went to the forest of Hereth.	5 Le prophète Gad dit à David: "Ne reste pas dans le refuge, va-t'en et enfonce-toi dans le pays deJuda." David partit et se rendit dans la forêt de Hérèt.
6 When Saul heard that David and the men with him had been discovered, Saul was at Gibeah, seatedunder the tamarisk on the high place, spear in hand, with al his staff standing round him.	6 Saül apprit qu'on avait découvert David et les hommes qui l'accompagnaient. Saül était à Gibéa,assis sous le tamaris du haut lieu, sa lance à la main, et tous ses officiers se tenaient debout près de lui.
7 'Listen, Benjaminites!' said Saul to them, 'Is the son of Jesse going to give you all fields and vineyardsand make al of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds	7 Et Saül dit aux officiers qui se tenaient près de lui: "Ecoutez donc, Benjaminites! Le fils de Jesséaussi vous donnera-t-il à tous des champs et des vignes et vous nommera-t-il tous chefs de mille et chefs de cent,
8 that you al conspire against me? No one warned me when my son made a pact with the son of Jesse;none of you felt sorry for me or warned me when my son incited my servant to become my enemy, as he is now.'	8 que vous conspiriez tous contre moi? Personne ne m'avertit quand mon fils pactise avec le fils deJessé, personne de vous n'a pitié de moi et ne me révèle que mon fils a dressé mon serviteur en ennemi contremoi, comme il apparaît aujourd'hui."
9 Then, up spoke Doeg the Edomite, who was in command of Saul's staff, 'I saw the son of Jessecoming to Nob, to Ahimelech son of Ahitub.	9 Doëg l'Edomite, qui se tenait près des officiers de Saül, prit la parole et dit: "J'ai vu le fils deJessé qui venait à Nob chez Ahimélek, fils d'Ahitub.
10 That man consulted Yahweh on his behalf, gave him provisions and also the sword of Goliath thePhilistine.'	10 Celui-ci a consulté Yahvé pour lui, il lui a donné des vivres, il lui a remis aussi l'épée de Goliathle Philistin."
11 The king then sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub and his whole family, the priests of Nob;they al came to the king.	11 Alors Saül fit appeler le prêtre Ahimélek fils d'Ahitub et toute sa famille, les prêtres de Nob, etils vinrent tous chez le roi.
12 Saul said, 'Now listen, son of Ahitub!' He replied, 'Here I am, my lord.'	12 Saül dit: "Ecoute donc, fils d'Ahitub!" et il répondit: "Me voici, Monseigneur."
13 'Why have you conspired against me,' said Saul, 'you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and asword and consulting God on his behalf, for him to rebel against me as is now the case?'	13 Saül lui dit: "Pourquoi avez-vous conspiré contre moi, le fils de Jessé et toi? Tu lui as donné dupain et une épée et tu as consulté Dieu pour lui, afin qu'il se dresse en ennemi contre moi, comme il arriveaujourd'hui."
14 Ahimelech replied to the king, 'Of al those in your service, who is more loyal than David son-in-law tothe king, captain of your bodyguard, honoured in your household?	14 Ahimélek répondit au roi: "Et qui donc, parmi tous tes serviteurs, est comparable à David, lefidèle, le gendre du roi, le chef de ta garde personnelle, celui qu'on honore dans ta maison?
15 Was today the first time I ever consulted God on his behalf? Indeed it was not! The king has nogrounds for bringing any charge against his servant or against his whole family, for your servant knew nothingwhatever about al this.'	15 Est-ce aujourd'hui que j'ai commencé de consulter Dieu pour lui? Loin de moi toute autrepensée! Que le roi n'impute à son serviteur et à toute sa famille aucune charge, car ton serviteur ne savait rien detout cela, ni peu ni prou."
16 The king retorted, 'You must die, Ahimelech, you and your whole family.'	16 Le roi reprit: "Tu mourras, Ahimélek, toi et toute ta famille."
17 The king said to the scouts who were standing round him, 'Forward! and put the priests of Yahweh todeath, for they too are on David's side, they knew that he was escaping, yet did not warn me of it.' The king'sprofessional soldiers, however, would not lift a hand to strike the priests of Yahweh.	17 Le roi ordonna aux coureurs qui se tenaient près de lui: "Approchez et mettez à mort les prêtresde Yahvé, car ils ont eux aussi prêté la main à David, ils ont su qu'il fuyait et ils ne m'ont pas averti." Mais lesgardes du roi ne voulurent pas porter la main sur les prêtres de Yahvé et les frapper.
18 The king then said to Doeg, 'Forward, you! Fall on the priests!' Doeg the Edomite stepped forwardand fel on the priests, himself that day kil ing eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.	18 Alors, le roi dit à Doëg: "Toi, approche et frappe les prêtres." Doëg l'Edomite s'approcha etfrappa lui-même les prêtres: il mit à mort ce jour-là 85 hommes qui portaient le pagne de lin.
19 Nob, the town of the priests, Saul put to the sword: men and women, children and infants, cattle,donkeys and sheep.	19 Quant à Nob, la ville des prêtres, Saül la passa au fil de l'épée, hommes et femmes, enfants etnourrissons, boeufs, ânes, brebis.
20 One son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub alone escaped. His name was Abiathar, and he fled away to joinDavid.	20 Il n'échappa qu'un fils d'Ahimélek, fils d'Ahitub. Il se nommait Ebyatar et il s'enfuit auprès deDavid.
21 When Abiathar told David that Saul had slaughtered the priests of Yahweh,	21 Ebyatar annonça à David que Saül avait massacré les prêtres de Yahvé,
22 David said to Abiathar, 'I knew, that day when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would be sure toinform Saul. I am responsible for the death of all your kinsmen.	22 et David lui dit: "Je savais ce jour-là que Doëg l'Edomite, étant présent, avertirait sûrementSaül! C'est moi qui suis responsable de la vie de tous tes parents.
23 Stay with me, do not be afraid, for he who seeks your life seeks mine; you wil be safe with me.'	23 Demeure avec moi, sois sans crainte: c'est le même qui en voudra à ma vie et qui en voudra à latienne, car tu es sous ma bonne garde."
