NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 In those days there was no king in Israel. Now in those days the tribe of Dan was in search of aterritory to live in, for until then no territory had fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.	1 In quello tempo non era re in Israel, e la schiatta di Dan sì andava cercando una possessione per abitarvi dentro; imperciò insino a quello dì, tra l'altre schiatte, non avea preso la sorte sua.
2 From their clan the Danites sent five brave men from Zorah and Eshtaol to reconnoitre the country andexplore it. They said to them, 'Go and explore the country.' The five men came to the highlands of Ephraim, asfar as Micah's house, and spent the night there.	2 E mandarono i figliuoli di Dan cinque uomini fortissimi della schiatta della loro famiglia di Saraa ed Estaol, acciò che ispiassono la terra diligentemente e le ponesson mente, e dissono loro: andate e considerate la terra. I quali andando, ed essendo venuti nel monte di Efraim, ed entrassono nella casa di Mica, e si riposassono quivi;
3 When they were near Micah's house, they recognised the voice of the young Levite and, going nearer,said to him, 'Who brought you here? What are you doing here? What is keeping you here?'	3 e conoscendo la voce di quello giovane (prete) della schiatta di Levi, e usando nel luogo dove abitavano, sì gli dissono: chi ti menò qua? e che fai tu qui? per quale cagione se' venuto qua?
4 He replied, 'Micah has made certain arrangements with me. He pays me a wage and I act as hispriest.'	4 Il quale rispuose loro: queste cose m' ha prestate e date Mica; e sì mi recò a casa per prezzo, acciò che gli sia suo prete.
5 They replied, 'Then consult God, so that we may know whether the journey we are on wil lead tosuccess.'	5 E pregaronlo costoro, che domandasse consiglio da Dio, per ciò che potessono sapere, se loro andavano sicuramente nel loro viaggio, e se il fatto loro venisse in effetto.
6 The priest replied, 'Go in peace; Yahweh is watching over your journey.'	6 Il quale sì rispuose loro: andate in pace, Iddio ragguarda la via vostra, e sì è con esso voi per la via che fate.
7 The five men then left and, arriving at Laish, saw that the people living there had an untroubledexistence, according to the customs of the Sidonians, peaceful and trusting, that there was no lack or shortageof any sort in the territory, that they were a long way away from the Sidonians and that they had no contact withthe Aramaeans.	7 E andando questi cinque uomini, sì vennero in Lais, e videno il popolo che abitava senza paura alcuna, secondo l' usanza di quelli di Sidonia, sicuro e quieto, al quale nullo popolo contrastava per alcuno modo, e di grande ricchezza, e di lungi da Sidone, e ancora da tutti quanti gli uomini spartito.
8 They then went back to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol and, when the latter asked them, 'Whathave you to report?'	8 E ritornati a' fratelli loro in Saraa ed Estaol, e ciò che avessono fatto ispiando, sì rispuoseno:
9 they said, 'Up! we must go against them, since we have looked at the country and it is excellent,though you take no action! Waste no time in setting out and taking possession of the country.	9 Levatevi (suso), e andiamo suso a loro; imperciò che noi abbiamo veduto la terra molto grassa (e ricca) e abbondevole; non siate negligenti, nè non vogliate cessare; andiamo, e sì la possediamo, e non sarà fatica alcuna.
10 When you get there, you wil find a trusting people. The country is wide, and God has put it at yourmercy. It is a place where there is no lack of anything on earth.'	10 Noi entreremo a coloro, che si stanno sicuramente, in contrada larghissima; e daracci Iddio luogo, nel quale di niuna cosa è penuria (e carestia) di quelle (cose) che nascono nella terra.
11 From these places, consequently, from the clan of Danites at Zorah and Eshtaol, six hundred men setout equipped for war.	11 E partìronsi (della schiatta e) del parentado di Dan, cioè di Saraa ed Estaol, uomini secento, tutti armati con arme da offendere.
12 They went up and camped at Kiriath-Jearim in Judah; and for this reason the place is stil cal ed theCamp of Dan today. It lies to the west of Kiriath-Jearim.	12 Salendo suso, istettero in Cariatiarim di Giuda; il quale luogo, da quello tempo, sì si chiamò IL CAMPO DI DAN, ed è di dietro a Cariatiarim.
13 From there they entered the highlands of Ephraim and came to Micah's house.	13 E quindi sì passarono nel monte di Efraim. Ed essendo venuti alla casa di Mica,
14 The five men who had been to reconnoitre the country then spoke to their brothers. 'Do you know',they said, 'that in these houses there is an ephod, some domestic images, a carved statue and an idol cast inmetal? So now work out what you have got to do!'	14 disseno quelli cinque uomini, li quali erano istati mandati in prima a considerare la terra di Lais, a (tutti) gli altri loro fratelli: sapete voi (o avete udito), che in questa casa sia la pianeta e il camiscio (e tutte le cose da prete) e un' imagine rilevata e vota dentro (per idolo); ponete mente quello che vi piace di fare.
15 So, turning off the road, they went to the young Levite's dwelling, to Micah's house, and greeted himpeaceful y.	15 E partìrsi uno poco quelli cinque ch' erano in casa di Mica, ed entrarono nella casa di quello prete giovane; e sì lo salutarono con parole pacifiche.
16 While the six hundred men of the Danites, equipped for war, stood at the threshold of the gate,	16 Ma quelli seicento uomini, così come erano armati, istavano dinanzi l'uscio.
17 the five who had been to reconnoitre the country went on into the house and took the carved statue,the ephod, the domestic images and the idol cast in metal; meanwhile the priest remained at the threshold of thegate with the six hundred men equipped for war.	17 E coloro, i quali erano entrati nella casa di questo giovane, si sforzavano di torre (questo idolo) il camiscio e la pianeta e tutto l'altro fornimento da prete. E il prete si stava dinanzi all'uscio, e quelli seicento uomini armati aspettavano uno poco da lungi.
18 These men, having entered Micah's house, took the carved statue, the ephod, the domestic imagesand the idol cast in metal. The priest, however, said, 'What are you doing?'	18 E tolsono questi uomini, che erano entrati, la imagine dell' idolo e il camiscio e paramento del prete. Ai quali sì disse il prete: che facete voi?
19 'Be quiet,' they replied. 'Put your hand over your mouth and come with us, and become our father andpriest. Are you better off as domestic priest to one man, or as priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?'	19 Al quale respuosono costoro: taci, e poni lo dito sopra la bocca tua, e vièntene con esso noi, acciò che t'abbiamo per padre e per prete. Quale cosa ti mette meglio, o che tu sii prete d'uno uomo, o d'una schiatta e d'una famiglia in Israel?
20 The priest was delighted; he took the ephod, the domestic images and the carved statue, and wentoff among the people.	20 La qual cosa udendo questo prete, consentì alle parole loro, e tolse il paramento da prete e la imagine rilevata e gl' idoli, e andossene con loro.
21 Resuming their original line of march, they set off, having put the women, children, livestock andbaggage out in front.	21 I quali, andando, feceno andare dinanzi da loro i fanciulli e (le cavalle le quali portavano queste cose e ancora) il bestiame e ancora ogni cosa preziosa (la quale era in casa di Mica).
22 They had gone some distance from Micah's house, when the people living in the houses near Micah'shouse raised the alarm and set off in pursuit of the Danites.	22 Essendo costoro dalla lunga della casa di Mica, gli uomini i quali abitavano nella casa di Mica (dove istava il bestiame), tutti gridarono insieme, e sì gli seguitarono,
23 As they shouted after the Danites, the latter, turning about, said to Micah, 'What is the matter withyou, that you are shouting like this?'	23 e cominciarono a gridare loro dietro. I quali avendo posto insememente dietro, dissero a Mica: che vuogli tu? perchè gridi?
24 He replied, 'You have taken away my god, which I have had made, and the priest as wel . You aregoing away, and what have I got left? And now you ask me, "What is the matter?" '	24 Il quale rispuose loro: gli dii miei, li quali io mi feci, avete tolti, e il prete, e ciò ch' io avea; e dite che hai tu?
25 The Danites said, 'Let us hear no more from you, or quick-tempered men may set about you, and thismight cost you your life and the lives of your family!'	25 E dissergli i figliuoli di Dan: guarda che non gridi nè favelli più, acciò che [non] vengano a te questi uomini (turbati) con l' animo concitato, [e non] perischi insieme con tutta la casa [tua].
26 So the Danites went on their way; and Micah, seeing that they were the stronger, turned and wenthome.	26 E (dette queste parole,) preso il cammino, sì se n'andarono. E veggendo Mica, ch' erano più forti di lui, si tornò a casa sua.
27 So, having taken the god made by Micah, and the priest who had been his, the Danites marched onLaish, on a peaceful and trusting people. They put it to the sword and they burned down the town.	27 E questi secento uomini sì tolsono il prete, e tutte l'altre cose [dette] di sopra; e vennero in Lais a quello popolo che si stava e non si guardava, ed entrarono dentro (cui tutti gli percossono, e uccisono), e miseno alle punta delle coltella; e miseno al fuoco la cittade,
28 There was no one to come to the rescue, since it was a long way from Sidon and had no contact withthe Aramaeans. It lay in the valley running towards Beth-Rehob. They rebuilt the town and settled in it	28 non essendo persona niuna la quale desse loro aiuto, perchè abitavano molto da lungi da loro quelli di Sidonia, e perchè non aveano ancora con uomo alcuno a fare nulla in compagnia alcuna. Ed era la cittade edificata nella contrada di Roob; la qual cittade riedificando da capo, sì abitarono dentro,
29 and cal ed it Dan, from the name of Dan their ancestor who had been born to Israel; original y,however, the town had been called Laish.	29 appellando il nome della cittade DAN, secondo il nome del suo padre, il quale avea generato (e avuto) Israel; la quale prima si chiamava LAIS.
30 The Danites erected the carved statue for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses, andhis sons after him were priests for the tribe of Dan til the day when the inhabitants of the country were carriedaway into exile.	30 E puosonsi quella imagine rilevata (per loro iddio); e Ionatan, figliuolo di Gersam figliuolo di Moisè, e i suoi figliuoli feceno preti nella ischiatta di Dan, insino al dì che furono pregioni.
31 The carved statue made by Micah they instal ed for their own use, and there it stayed as long as thehouse of God remained at Shiloh.	31 E istette appo loro l'idolo di Mica ogni tempo che fue la casa di Dio in Silo. In quelli di non era re in Israel.
