Judges 18

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 In those days there was no king in Israel. Now in those days the tribe of Dan was in search of aterritory to live in, for until then no territory had fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.	1 IN quel tempo non v’era re alcuno in Israele; e in que’ dì la tribù di Dan si cercava eredità, da abitare; perciocchè fino a quel dì non le era scaduta sorte fra le tribù d’Israele in eredità.
2 From their clan the Danites sent five brave men from Zorah and Eshtaol to reconnoitre the country andexplore it. They said to them, 'Go and explore the country.' The five men came to the highlands of Ephraim, asfar as Micah's house, and spent the night there.	2 Laonde i figliuoli di Dan mandarono cinque uomini della lor nazione, presi qua e là d’infra loro, uomini di valore, da Sorea e da Estaol, a spiare un certo paese, e ad investigarlo; e dissero loro: Andate, investigate quel paese. Essi adunque, giunti al monte di Efraim, alla casa di Mica, albergarono quivi.
3 When they were near Micah's house, they recognised the voice of the young Levite and, going nearer,said to him, 'Who brought you here? What are you doing here? What is keeping you here?'	3 Come furono presso alla casa di Mica, riconobbero la voce del giovane Levita; e, ridottisi là, gli dissero: Chi ti ha condotto qua? e che fai qui? e che hai da far qui?
4 He replied, 'Micah has made certain arrangements with me. He pays me a wage and I act as hispriest.'	4 Ed egli disse loro: Mica mi ha fatte tali e tali cose, e mi ha condotto per prezzo per essergli sacerdote.
5 They replied, 'Then consult God, so that we may know whether the journey we are on wil lead tosuccess.'	5 Ed essi gli dissero: Deh! domanda Iddio, acciocchè sappiamo se il viaggio che facciamo sarà prospero.
6 The priest replied, 'Go in peace; Yahweh is watching over your journey.'	6 E il sacerdote disse loro: Andate in pace; il viaggio che voi fate è davanti al Signore
7 The five men then left and, arriving at Laish, saw that the people living there had an untroubledexistence, according to the customs of the Sidonians, peaceful and trusting, that there was no lack or shortageof any sort in the territory, that they were a long way away from the Sidonians and that they had no contact withthe Aramaeans.	7 Que’ cinque uomini adunque andarono; e, giunti in Lais, videro il popolo che era in quella città, la quale era situata in luogo sicuro, stare in riposo e in sicurtà, nella maniera de’ Sidonii; non essendovi alcuno nel paese, che desse loro molestia in cosa alcuna; ed erano padroni del loro stato, e lontani da’ Sidonii, e non aveano da far nulla con alcuno.
8 They then went back to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol and, when the latter asked them, 'Whathave you to report?'	8 Poi, essendo ritornati a’ lor fratelli, in Sorea ed in Estaol, i lor fratelli dissero loro: Che dite voi?
9 they said, 'Up! we must go against them, since we have looked at the country and it is excellent,though you take no action! Waste no time in setting out and taking possession of the country.	9 Ed essi dissero; Or su, saliamo contro a quella gente: perciocchè noi abbiamo veduto il paese, ed ecco, egli è grandemente buono: e voi ve ne state a bada? non siate pigri a mettervi in cammino, per andare a prender possessione di quel paese.
10 When you get there, you wil find a trusting people. The country is wide, and God has put it at yourmercy. It is a place where there is no lack of anything on earth.'	10 Quando voi giungerete là consciossiachè Iddio ve l’abbia dato nelle mani, verrete ad un popolo che se ne sta sicuro, e il paese è largo; è un luogo, nel quale non v’è mancamento di cosa alcuna che sia in su la terra.
11 From these places, consequently, from the clan of Danites at Zorah and Eshtaol, six hundred men setout equipped for war.	11 Allora seicent’uomini della nazione de’ Daniti si partirono di là, cioè, di Sorea e di Estaol, in armi.
12 They went up and camped at Kiriath-Jearim in Judah; and for this reason the place is stil cal ed theCamp of Dan today. It lies to the west of Kiriath-Jearim.	12 E salirono, e si accamparono in Chiriat-iearim, in Giuda; perciò quel luogo è stato chiamato Mahane-Dan, fino a questo giorno; ed ecco, egli è dietro a Chiriat-iearim.
13 From there they entered the highlands of Ephraim and came to Micah's house.	13 E di là passarono al monte di Efraim, e giunsero alla casa di Mica
14 The five men who had been to reconnoitre the country then spoke to their brothers. 'Do you know',they said, 'that in these houses there is an ephod, some domestic images, a carved statue and an idol cast inmetal? So now work out what you have got to do!'	14 Allora, i cinque uomini ch’erano andati a spiare il paese di Lais, fecero motto a’ lor fratelli, e dissero loro: Sapete voi che in queste case vi è un Efod, e delle immagini, e una scultura, e una statua di getto? Ora dunque, considerate ciò che avete a fare.
15 So, turning off the road, they went to the young Levite's dwelling, to Micah's house, and greeted himpeaceful y.	15 Ed essi si ridussero là, e vennero alla casa del giovane Levita, nella casa di Mica, e gli domandarono del suo bene stare.
16 While the six hundred men of the Danites, equipped for war, stood at the threshold of the gate,	16 Or i seicent’uomini de’ figliuoli di Dan armati si fermarono all’entrata della porta.
17 the five who had been to reconnoitre the country went on into the house and took the carved statue,the ephod, the domestic images and the idol cast in metal; meanwhile the priest remained at the threshold of thegate with the six hundred men equipped for war.	17 Ma que’ cinque uomini, ch’erano andati per ispiar il paese, salirono, ed entrarono là entro, e presero la scultura, e l’Efod, e le immagini, e la statua di getto, mentre il sacerdote era arrestato all’entrata della porta, co’ seicent’uomini armati.
18 These men, having entered Micah's house, took the carved statue, the ephod, the domestic imagesand the idol cast in metal. The priest, however, said, 'What are you doing?'	18 Essi adunque, essendo entrati in casa di Mica, e avendo presa la scultura, e l’Efod e le immagini, e la statua di getto, il sacerdote disse loro: Che fate voi?
19 'Be quiet,' they replied. 'Put your hand over your mouth and come with us, and become our father andpriest. Are you better off as domestic priest to one man, or as priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?'	19 Ed essi gli dissero: Taci; mettiti la mano in su la bocca, e vieni con noi, e siici per padre, e per sacerdote; quale è meglio per te, esser sacerdote a una casa d’un uomo, ovvero esser sacerdote a una tribù, e ad una nazione in Israele?
20 The priest was delighted; he took the ephod, the domestic images and the carved statue, and wentoff among the people.	20 E il sacerdote se ne rallegrò nel suo cuore, e prese l’Efod, e le immagini, e la scultura, e se ne andò fra quella gente.
21 Resuming their original line of march, they set off, having put the women, children, livestock andbaggage out in front.	21 Poi i Daniti si rimisero al lor cammino, avendo posto innanzi a loro i piccoli fanciulli, ed il bestiame, e le robe.
22 They had gone some distance from Micah's house, when the people living in the houses near Micah'shouse raised the alarm and set off in pursuit of the Danites.	22 Ed essendo già lungi della casa di Mica, gli uomini ch’erano nelle case vicine alla casa di Mica, si adunarono a grida, e seguitarono di presso i figliuoli di Dan.
23 As they shouted after the Danites, the latter, turning about, said to Micah, 'What is the matter withyou, that you are shouting like this?'	23 E gridarono a’ figliuoli di Dan. Ed essi, voltando la faccia, dissero a Mica: Che cosa hai, che tu hai adunata la tua gente?
24 He replied, 'You have taken away my god, which I have had made, and the priest as wel . You aregoing away, and what have I got left? And now you ask me, "What is the matter?" '	24 Ed egli disse: Voi avete presi i miei dii, che io avea fatti, e il sacerdote, e ve ne siete andati via. Che mi resta egli più? E come dunque mi dite voi: Che hai?
25 The Danites said, 'Let us hear no more from you, or quick-tempered men may set about you, and thismight cost you your life and the lives of your family!'	25 Ma i figliuoli di Dan gli dissero: Non far che s’intenda la tua voce appresso di noi; che talora alcuni uomini d’animo iracondo non si avventino sopra voi; e che tu, e que’ di casa tua, perdiate la vita.
26 So the Danites went on their way; and Micah, seeing that they were the stronger, turned and wenthome.	26 I figliuoli di Dan adunque seguitarono il lor cammino; e Mica, veggendo ch’erano più forti di lui, rivoltosi indietro, se ne ritornò a casa sua
27 So, having taken the god made by Micah, and the priest who had been his, the Danites marched onLaish, on a peaceful and trusting people. They put it to the sword and they burned down the town.	27 Ed essi, preso quello che Mica avea fatto, e il sacerdote ch’egli avea, giunsero a Lais, ad un popolo che se ne stava in quiete e in sicurtà; e percossero la gente a fil di spada, e arsero la città col fuoco.
28 There was no one to come to the rescue, since it was a long way from Sidon and had no contact withthe Aramaeans. It lay in the valley running towards Beth-Rehob. They rebuilt the town and settled in it	28 E non vi fu alcuno che la riscotesse; perciocchè era lungi di Sidon, e gli abitanti non aveano da far nulla con niuno; e la città era nella valle che è nel paese di Bet-rehob. Poi riedificarono la città, e abitarono in essa.
29 and cal ed it Dan, from the name of Dan their ancestor who had been born to Israel; original y,however, the town had been called Laish.	29 E le posero nome Dan, del nome di Dan, lor padre, il qual fu figliuolo d’Israele; in luogo che il nome di quella città prima era Lais.
30 The Danites erected the carved statue for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses, andhis sons after him were priests for the tribe of Dan til the day when the inhabitants of the country were carriedaway into exile.	30 E i figliuoli di Dan si rizzarono la scultura; e Gionatan, figliuolo di Ghersom, figliuolo di Manasse, e i suoi figliuoli dopo di lui, furono sacerdoti della tribù di Dan, infino al giorno che gli abitanti del paese furono menati in cattività.
31 The carved statue made by Micah they instal ed for their own use, and there it stayed as long as thehouse of God remained at Shiloh.	31 Si rizzarono adunque quella scultura di Mica, ch’egli avea fatta; ed ella vi fu tutto il tempo che la Casa di Dio fu in Silo
