NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 In those days there was no king in Israel. Now in those days the tribe of Dan was in search of aterritory to live in, for until then no territory had fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.	1 Naquele tempo não havia rei em Israel. Por essa mesma época a tribo de Dá buscava uma possessão para habitar nela, porque até então nada tinha recebido entre as tribos de Israel.
2 From their clan the Danites sent five brave men from Zorah and Eshtaol to reconnoitre the country andexplore it. They said to them, 'Go and explore the country.' The five men came to the highlands of Ephraim, asfar as Micah's house, and spent the night there.	2 Os danitas enviaram cinco dos seus, cinco homens valorosos escolhidos dentre todas as suas famílias de Sorea e de Estaol, para explorarem cuidadosamente a terra: Ide, disseram-lhes, e examinai bem a terra. Foram e chegaram à montanha de Efraim, e entraram na casa de Micas, onde passaram a noite.
3 When they were near Micah's house, they recognised the voice of the young Levite and, going nearer,said to him, 'Who brought you here? What are you doing here? What is keeping you here?'	3 Perto da casa de Micas ouviram a voz do jovem levita e, aproximando-se dele, disseram-lhe: Quem te trouxe aqui? Que fazes aqui? Por que te encontras neste lugar?
4 He replied, 'Micah has made certain arrangements with me. He pays me a wage and I act as hispriest.'	4 Respondeu-lhes o jovem: Micas fez-me isto e isso; deu-me um salário e eu sirvo-lhe, de sacerdote.
5 They replied, 'Then consult God, so that we may know whether the journey we are on wil lead tosuccess.'	5 Consulta então, replicaram-lhe, o teu deus a fim de saber se nossa viagem será bem sucedida.
6 The priest replied, 'Go in peace; Yahweh is watching over your journey.'	6 O sacerdote respondeu: Ide em paz: vossa viagem está sob o olhar de Deus.
7 The five men then left and, arriving at Laish, saw that the people living there had an untroubledexistence, according to the customs of the Sidonians, peaceful and trusting, that there was no lack or shortageof any sort in the territory, that they were a long way away from the Sidonians and that they had no contact withthe Aramaeans.	7 Os cinco homens puseram-se a caminho e foram até Lais. Viram ali um povo que habitava seguro, pacífico e tranqüilo, segundo o costume dos sidônios. Não havia naquele terra nenhum rei que dominasse sobre os seus habitantes, ou que os molestasse em coisa alguma. Viviam longe dos sidônios e não tinham relações com ninguém.
8 They then went back to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol and, when the latter asked them, 'Whathave you to report?'	8 Voltando para seus irmãos em Sorea e Estaol, estes disseram: Que pudestes fazer?
9 they said, 'Up! we must go against them, since we have looked at the country and it is excellent,though you take no action! Waste no time in setting out and taking possession of the country.	9 Eles responderam: Vamos, subamos contra eles. Vimos a sua terra que é excelente. Por que ficais aí sem nada dizer? Não demoreis a pôr-vos em marcha para tomar posse dessa terra.
10 When you get there, you wil find a trusting people. The country is wide, and God has put it at yourmercy. It is a place where there is no lack of anything on earth.'	10 Quando ali entrardes, encontrareis um povo que vive em segurança e uma terra espaçosa que Deus vos entregará nas mãos, uma região onde nada falta daquilo que a terra produz.
11 From these places, consequently, from the clan of Danites at Zorah and Eshtaol, six hundred men setout equipped for war.	11 Seiscentos homens da família de Dá partiram, pois, de Sorea e de Estaol, munidos com armas de guerra
12 They went up and camped at Kiriath-Jearim in Judah; and for this reason the place is stil cal ed theCamp of Dan today. It lies to the west of Kiriath-Jearim.	12 e acamparam em Cariatiarim, em Judá. Por isso deu-se àquele lugar o nome de Mahanê-Dã, o qual assim se chama ainda hoje, e está situado ao ocidente de Cariatiarim.
13 From there they entered the highlands of Ephraim and came to Micah's house.	13 Dali passaram às montanhas de Efraim e chegaram à casa de Micas.
14 The five men who had been to reconnoitre the country then spoke to their brothers. 'Do you know',they said, 'that in these houses there is an ephod, some domestic images, a carved statue and an idol cast inmetal? So now work out what you have got to do!'	14 E os cinco homens que tinham sido enviados a explorar a terra de Lais disseram aos seus irmãos: Sabeis que há nessa casa um efod, uns terafim e um ídolo fundido? Considerai agora o que tendes a fazer.
15 So, turning off the road, they went to the young Levite's dwelling, to Micah's house, and greeted himpeaceful y.	15 Dirigiram-se para lá e entraram na casa do jovem levita, em casa de Micas, para saudá-lo e informar-se de como ia passando.
16 While the six hundred men of the Danites, equipped for war, stood at the threshold of the gate,	16 Entretanto, os seiscentos danitas, armados como estavam, ficaram à porta.
17 the five who had been to reconnoitre the country went on into the house and took the carved statue,the ephod, the domestic images and the idol cast in metal; meanwhile the priest remained at the threshold of thegate with the six hundred men equipped for war.	17 Os cinco exploradores penetraram {sozinhos} na capela e tomaram o ídolo com o efod e os terafim, enquanto o sacerdote se achava com os seiscentos homens armados à entrada da porta.
18 These men, having entered Micah's house, took the carved statue, the ephod, the domestic imagesand the idol cast in metal. The priest, however, said, 'What are you doing?'	18 Tiraram, pois, da casa de Micas, o ídolo, o efod e os terafim. O sacerdote disse-lhes: Que fazeis vós?
19 'Be quiet,' they replied. 'Put your hand over your mouth and come with us, and become our father andpriest. Are you better off as domestic priest to one man, or as priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?'	19 Cala-te, responderam-lhe, põe a mão na boca e vem conosco; tu nos servirás de pai e de sacerdote. O que é melhor para ti: ser sacerdote na casa de um particular, ou numa tribo e numa família de Israel?
20 The priest was delighted; he took the ephod, the domestic images and the carved statue, and wentoff among the people.	20 Alegrou-se o coração do sacerdote, e ele, tomando o efod, os terafim e o ídolo, foi com a tropa.
21 Resuming their original line of march, they set off, having put the women, children, livestock andbaggage out in front.	21 Puseram-se de novo a caminho, precedidos das crianças, do gado e das bagagens.
22 They had gone some distance from Micah's house, when the people living in the houses near Micah'shouse raised the alarm and set off in pursuit of the Danites.	22 Estando eles já longe da casa de Micas, os vizinhos deste ajuntaram-se e perseguiram os danitas.
23 As they shouted after the Danites, the latter, turning about, said to Micah, 'What is the matter withyou, that you are shouting like this?'	23 Interrogados, os filhos de Dã voltaram-se e disseram a Micas: Que queres tu, e por que trazes toda essa gente?
24 He replied, 'You have taken away my god, which I have had made, and the priest as wel . You aregoing away, and what have I got left? And now you ask me, "What is the matter?" '	24 Ele respondeu: Tirastes os meus deuses que fiz para mim, tomastes o sacerdote e partistes. Que me resta agora? E como podeis perguntar o que quero?
25 The Danites said, 'Let us hear no more from you, or quick-tempered men may set about you, and thismight cost you your life and the lives of your family!'	25 Os danitas replicaram: Nem mais uma palavra diante de nós! Não suceda que alguns se impacientem contra vós e percais a vida, tu e tua família!
26 So the Danites went on their way; and Micah, seeing that they were the stronger, turned and wenthome.	26 E os danitas continuaram o seu caminho. Micas, vendo que aqueles homens eram mais fortes que ele, voltou para a sua casa.
27 So, having taken the god made by Micah, and the priest who had been his, the Danites marched onLaish, on a peaceful and trusting people. They put it to the sword and they burned down the town.	27 Desse modo, tomaram os danitas a obra que Micas tinha feito, juntamente com o seu sacerdote. Atacaram então Lais, um povo pacífico e seguro, passaram-no ao fio da espada e queimaram a cidade.
28 There was no one to come to the rescue, since it was a long way from Sidon and had no contact withthe Aramaeans. It lay in the valley running towards Beth-Rehob. They rebuilt the town and settled in it	28 Não houve quem a salvasse, porque estava longe de Sidon e não tinham relações com ninguém. Essa cidade estava situada no vale pertencente a Bet-Roob. Os danitas reedificaram a cidade e habitaram-na,
29 and cal ed it Dan, from the name of Dan their ancestor who had been born to Israel; original y,however, the town had been called Laish.	29 chamando-a cidade de Dã, nome de seu pai, que tinha nascido de Israel; a cidade chamava-se primitivamente Lais.
30 The Danites erected the carved statue for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses, andhis sons after him were priests for the tribe of Dan til the day when the inhabitants of the country were carriedaway into exile.	30 E erigiram em seguida o ídolo. Jonatã, filho de Gersã filho de Moisés, e seus descendentes foram sacerdotes na tribo de Dã até o dia de sua deportação.
31 The carved statue made by Micah they instal ed for their own use, and there it stayed as long as thehouse of God remained at Shiloh.	31 O ídolo de Micas foi conservado entre eles durante todo o tempo que o santuário de Deus ficou em Silo.
