NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,	1 Avendo dunque Cristo sofferto nella carne, armatevi anche voi della stessa mentalità, perché chi soffre nella carne ha rotto col peccato,
2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.	2 per vivere il tempo che gli rimane non secondo gl'impulsi passionali umani, ma secondo la volontà di Dio.
3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.	3 Basta col tempo trascorso, in cui vi siete abbandonati a soddisfare le passioni dei pagani, vivendo in dissolutezze, desideri sfrenati, orge di vino, banchetti, eccessi nel bere e nel culto illegittimo degli idoli.
4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.	4 Per il fatto che essi sono sorpresi che voi non corriate più con loro agli stessi eccessi licenziosi, sparlano di voi;
5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.	5 essi ne renderanno conto a colui che è pronto a giudicare i vivi e i morti.
6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.	6 Infatti anche i morti sono stati evangelizzati, così che, anche se giudicati come gli uomini nella carne, vivano secondo Dio nello spirito.
7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.	7 Si è approssimata la fine di tutto; siate dunque saggi e sobri per poter pregare.
8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.	8 Ma prima di tutto abbiate un amore costante tra di voi, poiché l'amore ricopre la moltitudine dei peccati:
9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.	9 siate ospitali reciprocamente senza lamentele;
10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.	10 secondo il dono ricevuto da ciascuno, siate gli uni a servizio degli altri, come buoni amministratori della multiforme grazia divina.
11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.	11 Chi parla, parli parole di Dio; chi serve, lo faccia in base a quell'energia che elargisce Dio, in modo che in tutto Dio sia glorificato per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, al quale appartiene la gloria e la potenza per i secoli dei secoli. Amen.
12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;	12 Carissimi: non vi sconcertate per il fuoco che è venuto sopra di voi per mettervi alla prova, come se vi capitasse qualcosa di strano.
13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.	13 Ma poiché prendete parte alle sofferenze di Cristo, rallegratevi, in modo che esultiate di gioia anche al momento della sua manifestazione.
14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.	14 Se siete scherniti per il nome di Cristo, beati voi, poiché dimora su di voi lo Spirito della gloria di Dio.
15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;	15 Nessuno di voi abbia a soffrire come omicida o ladro o malfattore o come spione degli altri.
16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.	16 Ma se soffre come cristiano, non se ne vergogni: glorifichi anzi Dio con questo nome.
17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?	17 Poiché è venuto il tempo dell'inizio del giudizio della casa di Dio: se inizia prima da voi, quale sarà l'esito finale di coloro che disobbediscono al vangelo di Dio?
18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?	18 E se il giusto a fatica si salva, dove apparirà l'empio e il peccatore?
19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.	19 Così anche coloro che soffrono secondo la volontà di Dio, presentino le loro vite a Dio creatore fedele, in un contesto di opere buone.
