1 Peter 4

1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,	1 - Poichè dunque Cristo ha sofferto nella carne, anche voi armatevi dello stesso pensiero; perchè chi ha sofferto nella carne, ha finito di peccare;
2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.	2 e per il tempo che gli resta di vita terrena deve vivere non secondo le passioni degli uomini, ma secondo il volere di Dio.
3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.	3 Basti infatti l'aver nel tempo passato soddisfatta la volontà dei Gentili per coloro i quali sono vissuti nella lussuria, nelle cupidigie, negli eccessi del mangiare e del bere e nell'illecito culto degli idoli.
4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.	4 Ora essi stupiscono e bestemmiano, perchè voi non vi abbandonate più alle loro dissolutezze.
5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.	5 Essi però dovranno rendere conto a Colui che è pronto a giudicare i vivi e i morti.
6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.	6 Appunto per questo il Vangelo è stato annunziato anche ai morti, affinchè essi siano giudicati secondo gli uomini quanto alla carne, ma vivano secondo Dio quanto allo Spirito.
7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.	7 Ora la fine di tutte le cose è vicina; siate dunque prudenti e vegliate nelle preghiere.
8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.	8 Soprattutto abbiate perseverante l'un verso l'altro la mutua carità, perchè la carità copre una moltitudine di peccati.
9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.	9 Esercitate l'ospitalità gli uni verso gli altri senza mormorare.
10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.	10 Da buoni amministratori della multiforme grazia di Dio, ognuno di voi ponga al servizio degli altri il dono ricevuto.
11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.	11 Se uno parla, [parli] come parole di Dio; chi esercita un ministero, [lo faccia] come per una forza che vien da Dio, affinchè in tutto sia glorificato Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, a cui è gloria ed impero nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.
12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;	12 Carissimi, non vi stupite del gran fuoco accesovi contro per provarvi, come se vi avvenisse una cosa nuova.
13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.	13 Ma dovete rallegrarvi di partecipare ai patimenti di Cristo, affinchè vi rallegriate ed esultiate quando si manifesterà la sua gloria.
14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.	14 Se siete trattati ignominiosamente per il nome di Cristo, sarete beati, poichè l'onore, la gloria e la virtù di Dio e lo Spirito di lui riposa su di voi.
15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;	15 Nessuno di voi soffra come omicida, o ladro, o maldicente, o insidiatore del bene altrui.
16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.	16 Se poi [soffre] come cristiano, non se ne vergogni; ma dia gloria a Dio per tal nome.
17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?	17 Perchè oramai è tempo che cominci il giudizio dalla casa di Dio. E se [comincia] prima da noi: quale sarà la fine di coloro che non ubbidiscono al Vangelo di Dio?
18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?	18 E se il giusto a stento sarà salvato, dove compariranno l'empio e il peccatore?
19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.	19 Perciò anche quelli che soffrono secondo la volontà di Dio, raccomandino le loro anime al Creatore fedele, praticando il bene.
