Joshua 7

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 But the Israelites were unfaithful to the curse of destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son ofZerah, of the tribe of Judah, took something that fell under the curse of destruction, and the anger of Yahwehwas aroused against the Israelites.	1 I figli d'Israele però commisero una mancanza nell'eseguire lo sterminio, perché Acan, figlio di Carmi, figlio di Zabdi, figlio di Zerach, della tribù di Giuda, prese qualche cosa votata all'interdetto e il Signore arse di sdegno contro i figli d'Israele.
2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai (which is near Beth-Aven), to the east of Bethel, having said tothem, 'Go up and reconnoitre the country.' They went up and reconnoitred Ai.	2 Giosuè intanto inviò degli uomini da Gerico verso Ai, che è presso Bet-Aven, a oriente di Betel, e disse loro: "Andate su ad esplorare il paese". Gli uomini salirono ed esplorarono Ai.
3 Coming back to Joshua, they said, 'There is no need for the whole people to go up; let some two orthree thousand go and attack Ai. Spare the whole people such an effort; there are only a few of them!'	3 Tornarono quindi da Giosuè e dissero: "Non salga tutto il popolo; due o tremila uomini salgano ed attacchino Ai. Non stare ad affaticare tutto il popolo perché là c'è poca gente".
4 Of the people, some three thousand marched up, but these broke before the people of Ai,	4 Salirono dunque soltanto tremila soldati scelti dalla massa, ma dovettero fuggire di fronte agli uomini di Ai.
5 who killed some thirty-six of them and pursued them from the town gate as far as Shebarim, and on theslope cut them to pieces. The hearts of the people melted away and turned to water.	5 Questi ne uccisero circa trentasei e li inseguirono dalla porta fino a Sebarim e continuarono a colpirli lungo la discesa. Allora al popolo mancò il coraggio, si sciolsero come acqua.
6 Joshua then tore his clothes and prostrated himself before the ark of Yahweh til nightfal ; the elders ofIsrael did the same, and all poured dust on their heads.	6 Giosuè si strappò le vesti e si gettò bocconi davanti all'arca del Signore fino alla sera, e così fecero gli anziani d'Israele, cospargendosi la testa di polvere.
7 And Joshua said, 'Alas, Lord Yahweh, why did you bother to bring this nation across the Jordan, if it wasonly to put us at the mercy of the Amorites and destroy us? If only we could have settled down on the other sideof the Jordan!	7 Giosuè pregò quindi così: "Signore Dio, perché hai fatto passare il Giordano a questo popolo, forse per darci nelle mani dell'Amorreo e farci distruggere? Ah, ci fossimo contentati di restare al di là del Giordano!
8 Forgive me, Lord, but what can I say, now that Israel has turned tail on the enemy?	8 Ah, Signore, che posso dire io, ora che Israele ha dovuto voltare le spalle davanti ai suoi nemici?
9 The Canaanites, al the inhabitants of the land, wil hear of it; they wil unite against us to wipe our namefrom the earth. And what wil you do about your great Name then?'	9 Lo verranno a sapere i Cananei e tutti gli abitanti della regione, si rivolteranno contro di noi e cancelleranno dalla terra il nostro nome. Cosa farai tu, allora, per il tuo grande nome?".
10 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Stand up! Why are you lying prostrate like this?	10 Rispose il Signore a Giosuè: "Lèvati su: a che cosa serve starsene bocconi?
11 Israel has sinned; they have violated the covenant which I imposed on them. They have gone so far asto take what was under the curse of destruction, they have even stolen it; they have actual y hidden it; they have put it in their baggage.	11 Israele ha peccato; hanno trasgredito l'alleanza che io avevo imposto loro, prendendosi roba interdetta: hanno rubato, hanno dissimulato nascondendo nei propri bagagli.
12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand up to their foes, why they have turned tail on their enemies:because they have come under the curse of destruction themselves. Unless you get rid of the object among youwhich has been put under the curse of destruction, I shal be with you no longer.'	12 Perciò i figli d'Israele non potranno tener fronte ai loro nemici, bensì volteranno loro le spalle, perché sono divenuti infedeli. Io non sarò più con voi, se non distruggete l'anatema che è in mezzo a voi.
13 'Get up, sanctify the people and say, "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, since Yahweh, the God ofIsrael, declares: The curse of destruction has now fal en on you, Israel; you wil not be able to stand up to yourenemies, until you have rid yourselves of that object which has been put under the curse of destruction.	13 Lèvati, fa' purificare il popolo, dicendo: "Santificatevi per domani perché così ha parlato il Signore, Dio d'Israele: L'interdetto è in mezzo a te, Israele! Tu non potrai più tener fronte ai tuoi nemici, finché non avrete tolto la causa d'interdetto in mezzo a voi.
14 Tomorrow morning, therefore, you wil come forward tribe by tribe, and then the tribe which Yahwehselects by lot will come forward clan by clan, and the clan which Yahweh selects by lot will come forward familyby family, and the family which Yahweh selects by lot wil come forward man by man.	14 Domani all'alba vi presenterete per tribù, la tribù che il Signore per sorteggio avrà designato si presenterà per famiglie e la famiglia che il Signore avrà designato si presenterà per casati e i casati uno per uno.
15 And the man indicated by lot as regards the object which has been put under the curse of destructionwil be delivered to the flames, he and al his possessions, for having violated the covenant with Yahweh and forhaving committed an infamy in Israel." '	15 Colui che sarà sorpreso nell'affare dell'interdetto, sarà bruciato con tutta la sua famiglia, perché ha trasgredito l'alleanza del Signore e ha commesso una grande infamia in Israele".
16 Joshua got up early; he made Israel come forward tribe by tribe, and the lot indicated the tribe ofJudah.	16 Giosuè si levò all'alba e fece venire Israele per tribù: cadde la sorte sulla tribù di Giuda.
17 He summoned the clans of Judah, and the lot indicated the clan of Zerah. He summoned the clan ofZerah, family by family, and the lot indicated Zabdi.	17 Fece venire allora i clan di Giuda e fu sorteggiato il clan di Zerach. Fece avvicinare il clan di Zerach per case e uscì a sorte Zabdi.
18 Joshua then summoned the family of Zabdi, man by man, and the lot indicated Achan son of Carmi,son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.	18 Fece avvicinare la casa di lui, gli uomini uno per uno, e uscì a sorte Acan, figlio di Carmi, figlio di Zabdi, figlio di Zerach, della tribù di Giuda.
19 Joshua then said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to Yahweh, God of Israel, and confess; tel me whatyou have done and hide nothing from me.'	19 Disse allora Giosuè ad Acan: "Figlio mio, da' gloria al Signore, Dio d'Israele, rendendogli omaggio; dimmi che cosa hai fatto, senza nascondermi nulla!".
20 Achan replied to Joshua, 'Yes, I am the man who has sinned against Yahweh, God of Israel, and thisis what I have done.	20 Acan rispose a Giosuè: "In verità sono io che ho peccato contro il Signore, Dio d'Israele, facendo questo e questo:
21 In the loot, I saw a fine robe from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and an ingot of goldweighing fifty shekels, I set my heart on them and I took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, withthe silver underneath.'	21 avendo veduto tra il bottino un magnifico mantello di Sennaar, duecento sicli d'argento, un lingotto d'oro di cinquanta sicli, li ho ardentemente desiderati e li ho presi. Ecco, sono nascosti sotto terra, in mezzo alla mia tenda, e sotto vi è l'argento".
22 Joshua sent messengers; they ran to the tent, and the robe was indeed hidden in the tent, with thesilver underneath.	22 Giosuè mandò alcuni giovani che corsero verso la tenda, ed ecco un nascondiglio nella sua tenda, con sotto l'argento:
23 They took the things out of the tent and, bringing them to Joshua and all the Israelites, laid them outbefore Yahweh.	23 essi lo presero dall'interno della tenda e lo portarono a Giosuè e a tutti i figli d'Israele, deponendolo davanti al Signore.
24 Joshua then took Achan son of Zerah and led him up to the Vale of Achor, with the silver and the robeand the ingot of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his goats, his tent and al hisbelongings. Al Israel went with him.	24 Allora Giosuè prese Acan, figlio di Zerach, con l'argento, il mantello e il lingotto d'oro, i suoi figli e le sue figlie, i suoi tori, i suoi asini e tutto il bestiame minuto, la sua tenda e tutto quanto gli apparteneva, mentre tutto Israele era con lui, e li condussero nella valle di Acor.
25 Joshua said, 'Why have you brought misfortune on us? Today may Yahweh bring misfortune on you!'And all Israel stoned him to death (and they burned them and threw stones at them).	25 Giosuè disse allora: "Perché hai tu voluto affliggerci? Così il Signore affligga te, oggi!". Tutto Israele lo uccise con pietre.
26 Over him, they raised a great mound of stones, which is still there today. Yahweh then relented fromhis fierce anger. That was why the place was cal ed the Vale of Achor, as it stil is today.	26 Innalzarono quindi su di lui un grande mucchio di pietre che c'è anche oggi, e il Signore si calmò dal furore della sua ira. Perciò quel luogo si chiama fino ad oggi Valle di Acor.
