Joshua 7

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 But the Israelites were unfaithful to the curse of destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son ofZerah, of the tribe of Judah, took something that fell under the curse of destruction, and the anger of Yahwehwas aroused against the Israelites.	1 Die Israeliten aber veruntreuten etwas von dem, was dem Untergang geweiht war. Denn Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serachs, vom Stamm Juda, nahm etwas von dem, was dem Untergang geweiht war. Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn über die Israeliten.
2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai (which is near Beth-Aven), to the east of Bethel, having said tothem, 'Go up and reconnoitre the country.' They went up and reconnoitred Ai.	2 Josua schickte von Jericho aus einige Männer nach Ai, das bei Bet-Awen, östlich von Bet-El liegt, und sagte zu ihnen: Geht hinauf, und erkundet das Land! Die Männer gingen hinauf und erkundeten Ai.
3 Coming back to Joshua, they said, 'There is no need for the whole people to go up; let some two orthree thousand go and attack Ai. Spare the whole people such an effort; there are only a few of them!'	3 Als sie zu Josua zurückkamen, sagten sie zu ihm: Es braucht nicht das ganze Volk hinaufzuziehen. Etwa zwei- oder dreitausend Mann sollen hinaufziehen; sie können Ai besiegen. Bemüh nicht das ganze Volk dorthin! Denn dort sind nur wenige Leute.
4 Of the people, some three thousand marched up, but these broke before the people of Ai,	4 So stiegen vom Volk etwa dreitausend Mann nach Ai hinauf; aber sie mussten vor den Männern von Ai die Flucht ergreifen.
5 who killed some thirty-six of them and pursued them from the town gate as far as Shebarim, and on theslope cut them to pieces. The hearts of the people melted away and turned to water.	5 Die Männer von Ai erschlugen sechsunddreißig von ihnen; die andern verfolgten sie vom Stadttor bis zu den Steinbrüchen und schlugen sie an der Steige. Da zerschmolz das Herz des Volkes und wurde zu Wasser.
6 Joshua then tore his clothes and prostrated himself before the ark of Yahweh til nightfal ; the elders ofIsrael did the same, and all poured dust on their heads.	6 Josua zerriss seine Kleider und warf sich zusammen mit den Ältesten vor der Lade des Herrn mit dem Gesicht zu Boden und blieb dort bis zum Abend liegen. Sie streuten sich Asche auf das Haupt
7 And Joshua said, 'Alas, Lord Yahweh, why did you bother to bring this nation across the Jordan, if it wasonly to put us at the mercy of the Amorites and destroy us? If only we could have settled down on the other sideof the Jordan!	7 und Josua sagte: Ach Herr, mein Gott! Warum hast du dieses Volk über den Jordan ziehen lassen? Um uns den Amoritern auszuliefern, damit sie uns vernichten? Hätten wir uns doch dazu entschlossen, jenseits des Jordan zu bleiben!
8 Forgive me, Lord, but what can I say, now that Israel has turned tail on the enemy?	8 Ach Herr, was soll ich sagen, nachdem Israel seinen Feinden den Rücken gezeigt hat?
9 The Canaanites, al the inhabitants of the land, wil hear of it; they wil unite against us to wipe our namefrom the earth. And what wil you do about your great Name then?'	9 Das werden die Kanaaniter und alle Bewohner des Landes hören und sie werden uns umzingeln und unseren Namen im ganzen Land ausrotten. Was willst du dann für deinen großen Namen tun?
10 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Stand up! Why are you lying prostrate like this?	10 Da sagte der Herr zu Josua: Steh auf! Warum liegst du da, mit dem Gesicht zur Erde?
11 Israel has sinned; they have violated the covenant which I imposed on them. They have gone so far asto take what was under the curse of destruction, they have even stolen it; they have actual y hidden it; they have put it in their baggage.	11 Israel hat gesündigt. Sie haben sich sogar gegen meinen Bund vergangen, den ich ihnen auferlegt habe. Sie haben etwas weggenommen von dem, was dem Untergang geweiht war; sie haben es gestohlen; sie haben es unterschlagen und zu ihren eigenen Sachen getan.
12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand up to their foes, why they have turned tail on their enemies:because they have come under the curse of destruction themselves. Unless you get rid of the object among youwhich has been put under the curse of destruction, I shal be with you no longer.'	12 Deshalb können die Israeliten dem Angriff ihrer Feinde nicht mehr standhalten und müssen ihren Feinden den Rücken zeigen; denn sie sind nun selbst dem Untergang geweiht. Ich werde nicht mehr mit euch sein, wenn ihr bei euch nicht alles, was dem Untergang geweiht ist, vernichtet.
13 'Get up, sanctify the people and say, "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, since Yahweh, the God ofIsrael, declares: The curse of destruction has now fal en on you, Israel; you wil not be able to stand up to yourenemies, until you have rid yourselves of that object which has been put under the curse of destruction.	13 Auf! Heilige das Volk und sag: Heiligt euch für morgen! Denn so hat der Herr, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: Bei dir, Israel, ist etwas, was dem Untergang geweiht ist. Du kannst dem Angriff deiner Feinde nicht standhalten, solange ihr nicht alles, was dem Untergang geweiht ist, aus eurer Mitte entfernt habt.
14 Tomorrow morning, therefore, you wil come forward tribe by tribe, and then the tribe which Yahwehselects by lot will come forward clan by clan, and the clan which Yahweh selects by lot will come forward familyby family, and the family which Yahweh selects by lot wil come forward man by man.	14 Morgen sollt ihr Stamm für Stamm antreten und der Stamm, den der Herr bezeichnet, soll Sippe für Sippe antreten und die Sippe, die der Herr dann bezeichnet, soll Großfamilie für Großfamilie antreten und die Großfamilie, die der Herr dann bezeichnet, soll Mann für Mann antreten.
15 And the man indicated by lot as regards the object which has been put under the curse of destructionwil be delivered to the flames, he and al his possessions, for having violated the covenant with Yahweh and forhaving committed an infamy in Israel." '	15 Bei wem man dann etwas findet, das dem Untergang geweiht ist, der soll mit allem, was er hat, verbrannt werden, weil er sich am Bund des Herrn vergangen und in Israel eine Schandtat verübt hat.
16 Joshua got up early; he made Israel come forward tribe by tribe, and the lot indicated the tribe ofJudah.	16 Josua ließ also früh am Morgen Israel Stamm für Stamm antreten; da wurde der Stamm Juda bezeichnet.
17 He summoned the clans of Judah, and the lot indicated the clan of Zerah. He summoned the clan ofZerah, family by family, and the lot indicated Zabdi.	17 Dann ließ er die Sippen Judas antreten; da wurde die Sippe der Serachiter bezeichnet. Dann ließ er die Sippe der Serachiter nach Großfamilien antreten; da wurde Sabdi bezeichnet.
18 Joshua then summoned the family of Zabdi, man by man, and the lot indicated Achan son of Carmi,son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.	18 Dann ließ er dessen Familie Mann für Mann antreten; da wurde Achan, der Sohn Karmis, der Enkel Sabdis, des Sohnes Serachs, vom Stamm Juda bezeichnet.
19 Joshua then said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to Yahweh, God of Israel, and confess; tel me whatyou have done and hide nothing from me.'	19 Josua sagte zu Achan: Mein Sohn, gib dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels, die Ehre und leg vor ihm ein Geständnis ab! Sag mir offen, was du getan hast, und verheimliche mir nichts!
20 Achan replied to Joshua, 'Yes, I am the man who has sinned against Yahweh, God of Israel, and thisis what I have done.	20 Achan antwortete Josua: Es ist wahr, ich habe mich gegen den Herrn, den Gott Israels, versündigt. Das und das habe ich getan:
21 In the loot, I saw a fine robe from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and an ingot of goldweighing fifty shekels, I set my heart on them and I took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, withthe silver underneath.'	21 Ich sah unter der Beute einen schönen Mantel aus Schinar, außerdem zweihundert Schekel Silber und einen Goldbarren, der fünfzig Schekel wog. Ich wollte es haben und nahm es an mich. Es ist in meinem Zelt im Boden vergraben, das Silber an unterster Stelle.
22 Joshua sent messengers; they ran to the tent, and the robe was indeed hidden in the tent, with thesilver underneath.	22 Josua schickte Boten und sie liefen zum Zelt, und wirklich: die Sachen waren im Zelt Achans vergraben, das Silber an unterster Stelle.
23 They took the things out of the tent and, bringing them to Joshua and all the Israelites, laid them outbefore Yahweh.	23 Sie holten alles aus dem Zelt heraus, brachten es zu Josua und allen Israeliten und breiteten es vor dem Herrn aus.
24 Joshua then took Achan son of Zerah and led him up to the Vale of Achor, with the silver and the robeand the ingot of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his goats, his tent and al hisbelongings. Al Israel went with him.	24 Da nahm Josua Achan, den Sohn Serachs, ebenso das Silber und den Mantel und den Goldbarren, seine Söhne und Töchter, seine Rinder, Esel und Schafe, sein Zelt und seine ganze Habe. Er und ganz Israel brachten alles ins Tal Achor.
25 Joshua said, 'Why have you brought misfortune on us? Today may Yahweh bring misfortune on you!'And all Israel stoned him to death (and they burned them and threw stones at them).	25 Dann sagte Josua: Womit du uns ins Unglück gestürzt hast, damit stürzt dich der Herr heute ins Unglück. Und ganz Israel steinigte Achan. [Sie verbrannten sie im Feuer und steinigten sie.]
26 Over him, they raised a great mound of stones, which is still there today. Yahweh then relented fromhis fierce anger. That was why the place was cal ed the Vale of Achor, as it stil is today.	26 Man errichtete über ihm einen großen Steinhaufen, der bis zum heutigen Tag zu sehen ist, und der Herr ließ ab von seinem glühenden Zorn. Deshalb nennt man diesen Ort bis heute Achortal (Unglückstal).
