Joshua 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 But the Israelites were unfaithful to the curse of destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son ofZerah, of the tribe of Judah, took something that fell under the curse of destruction, and the anger of Yahwehwas aroused against the Israelites.	1 Pero los israelitas cometieron un delito en lo del anatema. Akán, hijo de Karmí, hijo de Zabdí, hijo de Zéraj, de la tribu de Judá, se quedó con algo del anatema, y la ira de Yahveh se encendió contra los israelitas.
2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai (which is near Beth-Aven), to the east of Bethel, having said tothem, 'Go up and reconnoitre the country.' They went up and reconnoitred Ai.	2 Josué envió de Jericó a Ay, que está (junto a Bet Avén) al oriente de Betel, unos hombres, diciéndoles: «Subid a explorar el país». Los hombres subieron y exploraron Ay.
3 Coming back to Joshua, they said, 'There is no need for the whole people to go up; let some two orthree thousand go and attack Ai. Spare the whole people such an effort; there are only a few of them!'	3 Volvieron donde Josué y le dijeron: «Que no suba toda la gente; para atacar a Ay basta con que suban dos o 3.000 hombres. No molestes a toda la gente haciéndoles subir hasta allí, porque ellos son pocos».
4 Of the people, some three thousand marched up, but these broke before the people of Ai,	4 Subieron a Ay unos 3.000 hombres del pueblo, pero tuvieron que huir ante los hombres de Ay.
5 who killed some thirty-six of them and pursued them from the town gate as far as Shebarim, and on theslope cut them to pieces. The hearts of the people melted away and turned to water.	5 Los hombres de Ay les mataron como unos 36 hombres y los persiguieron más allá de la puerta hasta Sebarim, batiéndolos en la bajada. Entonces desfalleció el corazón del pueblo y se derritió como agua.
6 Joshua then tore his clothes and prostrated himself before the ark of Yahweh til nightfal ; the elders ofIsrael did the same, and all poured dust on their heads.	6 Josué desgarró sus vestidos, se postró rostro en tierra delante del arca de Yahveh hasta la tarde, junto con los ancianos de Israel, y todos esparcieron polvo sobre sus cabezas.
7 And Joshua said, 'Alas, Lord Yahweh, why did you bother to bring this nation across the Jordan, if it wasonly to put us at the mercy of the Amorites and destroy us? If only we could have settled down on the other sideof the Jordan!	7 Dijo Josué: «¡Ah, Señor Yahveh! ¿Por qué has hecho pasar el Jordán a este pueblo, para entregarnos en manos de los amorreos y destruirnos? ¡Ojalá nos hubiésemos empeñado en establecernos al otro lado del Jordán!
8 Forgive me, Lord, but what can I say, now that Israel has turned tail on the enemy?	8 ¡Perdón, Señor! ¿Qué puedo decir ahora que Israel ha vuelto la espalda a sus enemigos?
9 The Canaanites, al the inhabitants of the land, wil hear of it; they wil unite against us to wipe our namefrom the earth. And what wil you do about your great Name then?'	9 Se enterarán los cananeos y todos los habitantes del país: se aliarán contra nosotros y borrarán nuestro nombre de la tierra. ¿Que harás tú entonces por tu gran nombre?»
10 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Stand up! Why are you lying prostrate like this?	10 Yahveh respondió a Josué: «¡Arriba! ¡Vamos! ¿Por qué te estás así rostro en tierra?
11 Israel has sinned; they have violated the covenant which I imposed on them. They have gone so far asto take what was under the curse of destruction, they have even stolen it; they have actual y hidden it; they have put it in their baggage.	11 Israel ha pecado, también ha violado la alianza que yo le había impuesto. Y hasta se han quedado con algo del anatema, y lo han robado, y lo han escondido y lo han puesto entre sus utensilios.
12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand up to their foes, why they have turned tail on their enemies:because they have come under the curse of destruction themselves. Unless you get rid of the object among youwhich has been put under the curse of destruction, I shal be with you no longer.'	12 Los israelitas no podrán sostenerse ante sus enemigos; volverán la espalda ante sus enemigos, porque se han convertido en anatema. Yo no estaré ya con vosotros, si no hacéis desaparecer el anatema de en medio de vosotros.
13 'Get up, sanctify the people and say, "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, since Yahweh, the God ofIsrael, declares: The curse of destruction has now fal en on you, Israel; you wil not be able to stand up to yourenemies, until you have rid yourselves of that object which has been put under the curse of destruction.	13 Levántate, purifica al pueblo y diles: Purificaos para mañana, porque así dice Yahveh, el Dios de Israel: El anatema está dentro de ti, Israel; no podrás mantenerte delante de tus enemigos hasta que estirpéis el anatema de entre vosotros.
14 Tomorrow morning, therefore, you wil come forward tribe by tribe, and then the tribe which Yahwehselects by lot will come forward clan by clan, and the clan which Yahweh selects by lot will come forward familyby family, and the family which Yahweh selects by lot wil come forward man by man.	14 Os presentaréis, pues, mañana por la mañana, por tribus: la tribu que Yahveh designe por la suerte se presentará por clanes, el clan que Yahveh designe se presentará por familias, y la familia que Yahveh designe se presentará hombre por hombre.
15 And the man indicated by lot as regards the object which has been put under the curse of destructionwil be delivered to the flames, he and al his possessions, for having violated the covenant with Yahweh and forhaving committed an infamy in Israel." '	15 El designado por la suerte en lo del anatema será entregado al fuego con todo lo que le pertenece, por haber violado la alianza de Yahveh y cometido una infamia en Israel».
16 Joshua got up early; he made Israel come forward tribe by tribe, and the lot indicated the tribe ofJudah.	16 Josué se levantó de mañana; mandó que se acercara Israel por tribus, y fue designada por la suerte la tribu de Judá.
17 He summoned the clans of Judah, and the lot indicated the clan of Zerah. He summoned the clan ofZerah, family by family, and the lot indicated Zabdi.	17 Mandó que se acercaran los clanes de Judá, y fue designado por la suerte el clan de Zéraj. Mandó que se acercara el clan de Zéraj por familias, y fue designado por la suerte Zabdí.
18 Joshua then summoned the family of Zabdi, man by man, and the lot indicated Achan son of Carmi,son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.	18 Mandó que se acercara la familia de Zabdí, hombre por hombre, y fue designado por la suerte Akán, hijo de Karmí, hijo de Zabdí, hijo de Zéraj, de la tribu de Judá.
19 Joshua then said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to Yahweh, God of Israel, and confess; tel me whatyou have done and hide nothing from me.'	19 Dijo entonces Josué a Akán: «Hijo mío, da gloria a Yahveh, Dios de Israel y tribútale alabanza; declárame lo que has hecho, no me lo ocultes».
20 Achan replied to Joshua, 'Yes, I am the man who has sinned against Yahweh, God of Israel, and thisis what I have done.	20 Akán respondió a Josué: «En verdad, yo soy el que ha pecado contra Yahveh, Dios de Israel; esto y esto es lo que he hecho:
21 In the loot, I saw a fine robe from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and an ingot of goldweighing fifty shekels, I set my heart on them and I took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, withthe silver underneath.'	21 Vi entre el botín un hermoso manto de Senaar, doscientos siclos de plata y un lingote de oro de cincuenta siclos de peso, me gustaron y me los guardé. Están escondidos en la tierra en medio de mi tienda, y la plata debajo».
22 Joshua sent messengers; they ran to the tent, and the robe was indeed hidden in the tent, with thesilver underneath.	22 Josué envió emisarios, que fueron corriendo a la tienda, y en efecto el manto estaba escondido en la tienda y la plata debajo.
23 They took the things out of the tent and, bringing them to Joshua and all the Israelites, laid them outbefore Yahweh.	23 Lo sacaron de la tienda y se lo llevaron a Josué y a todos los israelitas delante de Yahveh.
24 Joshua then took Achan son of Zerah and led him up to the Vale of Achor, with the silver and the robeand the ingot of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his goats, his tent and al hisbelongings. Al Israel went with him.	24 Entonces Josué tomó a Akán, hijo de Zéraj, con la plata, el manto y el lingote de oro, a sus hijos, sus hijas, su toro, su asno y su oveja, su tienda y todo lo suyo y los hizo subir al valle de Akor. Todo Israel le acompañaba.
25 Joshua said, 'Why have you brought misfortune on us? Today may Yahweh bring misfortune on you!'And all Israel stoned him to death (and they burned them and threw stones at them).	25 Josué dijo: «¿Por qué nos has traído la desgracia? Que Yahveh te haga desgraciado en este día». Y todo Israel lo apedreó (y los quemaron en la hoguera y los apedrearon).
26 Over him, they raised a great mound of stones, which is still there today. Yahweh then relented fromhis fierce anger. That was why the place was cal ed the Vale of Achor, as it stil is today.	26 Levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, que existe todavía hoy. Así Yahveh se calmó del furor de su cólera. Por eso se llama aquel lugar Valle de Akor hasta el día de hoy.
