1 From Paul, by the wil of God an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy	1 Paolo, apostolo di Gesù Cristo per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Timoteo,
2 to God's holy people in Colossae, our faithful brothers in Christ. Grace and peace to you from God ourFather.	2 ai santi e fedeli fratelli in Cristo Gesù che sono a Colossi.
3 We give thanks for you to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, continual y in our prayers,	3 Grazia a voi e pace da Dio Padre nostro e dal Signore Gesù Cristo. Rendiamo grazie a Dio, Padre del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, pregando sempre per voi,
4 ever since we heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you show towards all God's holypeople	4 perché abbiamo sentito parlare della vostra fede in Cristo Gesù e della carità che avete verso tutti i santi,
5 because of the hope which is stored up for you in heaven. News of this hope reached you not long agothrough the word of truth, the gospel	5 in vista della speranza che avete riposta nei cieli e che avete conosciuta mediante la parola di verità, il Vangelo,
6 that came to you in the same way as it is bearing fruit and growing throughout the world. It has had thesame effect among you, ever since you heard about the grace of God and recognised it for what it truly is.	6 il quale è pervenuto a voi come anche a tutto il mondo, e porta frutti e fa progressi, come avviene appunto fra voi fin dal giorno in cui ne sentiste parlare e conosceste la grazia di Dio come l'è veramente,
7 This you learnt from Epaphras, our very dear fel ow-worker and a trustworthy deputy for us as Christ'sservant,	7 mediante le istruzioni ricevute da Epafra, nostro conservo carissimo, che è fedele ministro di Cristo Gesù per voi,
8 and it was he who also told us all about your love in the Spirit.	8 e che a noi ha pure fatto conoscere la vostra carità tutta spirituale.
9 That is why, ever since the day he told us, we have never failed to remember you in our prayers and askthat through perfect wisdom and spiritual understanding you should reach the ful est knowledge of his will	9 Quindi anche noi, dal giorno in cui ne fummo informati, non cessiamo di pregare per voi e di chiedere che siate ripieni della conoscenza della volontà di Dio, con ogni sorta di sapienza ed intelligenza spirituale,
10 and so be able to lead a life worthy of the Lord, a life acceptable to him in all its aspects, bearing fruit in every kind of good work and growing in knowledge of God,	10 affinchè vi diportiate in maniera degna di Dio, da piacere a lui in tutte le cose, producendo frutti, in ogni opera buona, e crescendo nella conoscenza di Dio,
11 fortified, in accordance with his glorious strength, with al power always to persevere and endure,	11 corroborati in ogni virtù, mediante la gloriosa potenza di lui, nella perfetta pazienza nella longanimità piena di gioia;
12 giving thanks with joy to the Father who has made you able to share the lot of God's holy people andwith them to inherit the light.	12 ringraziando Dio Padre, il quale ci ha fatti degni di partecipare alla sorte dei santi nella luce,
13 Because that is what he has done. It is he who has rescued us from the ruling force of darkness andtransferred us to the kingdom of the Son that he loves,	13 e, liberandoci dall'impero delle tenebre, ci ha trasportati nel regno del suo diletto Figliolo,
14 and in him we enjoy our freedom, the forgiveness of sin.	14 nel quale, mediante il sangue di lui, abbiamo la redenzione, la remissione dei peccati.
15 He is the image of the unseen God, the first-born of al creation,	15 Egli è l'imagine dell'invisibile Dio, il primogenito di tutte le creature,
16 for in him were created all things in heaven and on earth: everything visible and everything invisible,thrones, ruling forces, sovereignties, powers -- al things were created through him and for him.	16 perchè in lui sono state fatte tutte le cose in cielo e in terra, visibili e invisibili, sian Troni o Dominazioni o Principati o Potestà; tutto è stato creato per mezzo di lui e in vista di lui.
17 He exists before al things and in him al things hold together,	17 Egli è avanti tutte le cose e tutto sussiste in lui.
18 and he is the Head of the Body, that is, the Church. He is the Beginning, the first-born from the dead,so that he should be supreme in every way;	18 Egli è il capo nel corpo della Chiesa, lui che è il principio, il primo a rinascere dalla morte, e tale da avere in ogni cosa il primato.
19 because God wanted al ful ness to be found in him	19 Infatti piacque (al Padre) che in lui abitasse ogni pienezza (della divinità)
20 and through him to reconcile al things to him, everything in heaven and everything on earth, by makingpeace through his death on the cross.	20 e, facendo la pace mediante il sangue della sua croce, per mezzo di lui ha voluto riconciliare con se tutte le cose, quelle che sono sulla terra, come quelle che sono nei cieli.
21 You were once estranged and of hostile intent through your evil behaviour;	21 Ed anche voi, che una volta eravate lontani da Dio e suoi ne­mici nei pensieri e nelle opere malvagie, ora
22 now he has reconciled you, by his death and in that mortal body, to bring you before himself holy,faultless and irreproachable-	22 siete stati da Dio riconciliati nel corpo della carne di lui, per la sua morte, a fine di farvi comparire santi, immacolati e irreprensibili dinanzi a se stesso,
23 as long as you persevere and stand firm on the solid base of the faith, never letting yourselves driftaway from the hope promised by the gospel, which you have heard, which has been preached to every creatureunder heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become the servant.	23 se però perseverate ben fondati e saldi nella fede, immobili nella speranza del Vangelo che avete ricevuto che è stato predicato a tutte quante le creature che sono sotto il cielo, del qual Vangelo io, Paolo, sono stato fatto ministro.
24 It makes me happy to be suffering for you now, and in my own body to make up all the hardships thatstill have to be undergone by Christ for the sake of his body, the Church,	24 Ora io mi rallegro di quel che patisco per voi e completo nella mia carne quel che manca delle sofferenze di Cristo a prò del corpo di lui, che è la Chiesa:
25 of which I was made a servant with the responsibility towards you that God gave to me, that ofcompleting God's message,	25 della quale io sono stato fatto ministro, secondo l'ufficio che Dio m'ha dato per voi, di annunziare completamente la parola di Dio,
26 the message which was a mystery hidden for generations and centuries and has now been revealed tohis holy people.	26 il mistero occulto da secoli e da generazioni, ma ora manifestato ai santi di lui,
27 It was God's purpose to reveal to them how rich is the glory of this mystery among the gentiles; it isChrist among you, your hope of glory:	27 ai quali Dio volle far conoscere la gloriosa ricchezza di questo mistero tra le Genti, cioè Cristo per voi speranza della gloria,
28 this is the Christ we are proclaiming, admonishing and instructing everyone in all wisdom, to makeeveryone perfect in Christ.	28 Cristo, che noi predichiamo ammonendo ogni uomo, ammaestrando ogni uomo in tutta la sapienza per rendere ogni uomo perfetto in Cristo Gesù.
29 And it is for this reason that I labour, striving with his energy which works in me mightily.	29 Ed è per questo che io mi affatico e lotto coll'ener­gia datami da lui, che agisce in me potentemente.
