NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
As God's dear children, then, take him as your pattern,1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
and fol ow Christ by loving as he loved you, giving himself up for us as an offering and a sweet-smel ingsacrifice to God.2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Among you there must be not even a mention of sexual vice or impurity in any of its forms, or greed:this would scarcely become the holy people of God!3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
There must be no foul or salacious talk or coarse jokes -- al this is wrong for you; there should ratherbe thanksgiving.4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
For you can be quite certain that nobody who indulges in sexual immorality or impurity or greed -- whichis worshipping a false god -- can inherit the kingdom of God.5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is such behaviour that draws down God'sretribution on those who rebel against him.6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Make sure that you do not throw in your lot with them.7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; behave as children of light,8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and uprightness and truth.9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Try to discover what the Lord wants of you,10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
take no part in the futile works of darkness but, on the contrary, show them up for what they are.11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
The things which are done in secret are shameful even to speak of;12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
but anything shown up by the light wil be il uminated13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
and anything illuminated is itself a light. That is why it is said: Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead,and Christ wil shine on you.14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
So be very careful about the sort of lives you lead, like intel igent and not like senseless people.15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Make the best of the present time, for it is a wicked age.16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
This is why you must not be thoughtless but must recognise what is the will of the Lord.17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Do not get drunk with wine; this is simply dissipation; be fil ed with the Spirit.18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs among yourselves, singing and chanting to the Lord inyour hearts,19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
always and everywhere giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Wives should be subject to their husbands as to the Lord,22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
since, as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body, so is a husband the head of his wife;23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
and as the Church is subject to Christ, so should wives be to their husbands, in everything.24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands should love their wives, just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
to make her holy by washing her in cleansing water with a form of words,26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
so that when he took the Church to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless.27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies; for a man to love hiswife is for him to love himself.28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats theChurch,29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
because we are parts of his Body.30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and the twobecome one flesh.31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This mystery has great significance, but I am applying it to Christ and the Church.32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
To sum up: you also, each one of you, must love his wife as he loves himself; and let every wiferespect her husband.33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
