¹ I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,	¹ Decidí por mi cuenta no ir a vosotros otra vez causándoos tristeza.
² for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.	² Pues si os entristezco yo a vosotros, ¿quién me va a alegrar entonces, cuando el único que puede hacerlo está triste por causa mía?
³ Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.	³ Os escribí precisamente aquello para que, cuando llegara, no me entristecieran aquellos que tenían que alegrarme; de hecho estoy persuadido de que todos tenéis mi alegría por vuestra.
⁴ I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.	⁴ Porque os escribí con muchas lágrimas, debido a una gran aflicción y angustia de corazón; pero no lo hice para entristeceros sino para mostraros el amor tan especial que tengo por vosotros.
⁵ If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.	⁵ Pues si alguno ha causado tristeza, no me la ha causado a mí, sino, en cierto modo y para no exagerar, a todos vosotros.
⁶ The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;	⁶ Bástale a ese tal el correctivo que le ha impuesto la mayoría;
⁷ and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.	⁷ de modo que más vale que lo perdonéis y animéis, no sea que se hunda en una tristeza excesiva.
⁸ That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.	⁸ Por eso, os recomiendo que le confirméis el amor;
⁹ This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.	⁹ os escribí precisamente para esto, para comprobar vuestro temple y ver si obedecíais en todo.
¹⁰ But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,	¹⁰ Lo que vosotros perdonéis a alguien, también yo se lo perdono. Pues lo que yo he perdonado, si algo tengo que perdonar, fue por causa vuestra, teniendo delante a Cristo;
¹¹ to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.	¹¹ quiero evitar ser engañado por Satanás, pues no se me ocultan sus intenciones.
¹² When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,	¹² Llegué a Tróade para anunciar el Evangelio de Cristo y se me abrió una gran puerta en el Señor;
¹³ I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.	¹³ pero, al no encontrar allí a Tito, mi hermano, no me quedé tranquilo; entonces me despedí de ellos y salí para Macedonia.
¹⁴ But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.	¹⁴ Doy gracias a Dios, que siempre nos asocia a la victoria de Cristo y difunde por medio de nosotros en todas partes la fragancia de su conocimiento.
¹⁵ To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;	¹⁵ Porque somos incienso de Cristo ofrecido a Dios, entre los que se salvan y los que se pierden;
¹⁶ for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?	¹⁶ para unos, olor de muerte que mata; para los otros, olor de vida, para vida. Pero, ¿quién es capaz de esto?
¹⁷ At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.	¹⁷ Por lo menos no somos como tantos otros que negocian con la palabra de Dios, sino que hablamos con sinceridad en Cristo, de parte de Dios y delante de Dios.
