2 Corinthians 2

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,	1 Or io avea determinato in me stesso di non venir di nuovo a voi con tristizia.
2 for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.	2 Perciocchè, se io vi contristo, chi sarà dunque colui che mi rallegrerà, se non colui stesso che sarà stato da me contristato?
3 Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.	3 E quello stesso vi ho io scritto, acciocchè quando verrò, io non abbia tristezza sopra tristezza da coloro, dai quali io dovea avere allegrezza; confidandomi di tutti voi, che la mia allegrezza è quella di tutti voi.
4 I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.	4 Perciocchè di grande afflizione, e distretta di cuore, io vi scrissi con molte lagrime; non acciocchè foste contristati, ma acciocchè conosceste la carità, che io ho abbondantissima inverso voi
5 If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.	5 E se alcuno ha contristato, non ha contristato me, anzi in parte, per non aggravarlo, voi tutti.
6 The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;	6 Al tale basta quella riprensione, che gli è stata fatta dalla raunanza.
7 and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.	7 Talchè, in contrario, più tosto vi convien perdonargli, e consolarlo; che talora quell’uomo non sia assorto dalla troppa tristezza.
8 That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.	8 Perciò, io vi prego di ratificare inverso lui la carità.
9 This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.	9 Perciocchè a questo fine ancora vi ho scritto, acciocchè io conosca la prova di voi, se siete ubbidienti ad ogni cosa.
10 But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,	10 Or a chi voi perdonate alcuna cosa, perdono io ancora; perciocchè io altresì, se ho perdonata cosa alcuna, a chi l’ho perdonata, l’ho fatto per amor vostro, nel cospetto di Cristo, acciocchè noi non siamo soverchiati da Satana.
11 to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.	11 Perciocchè noi non ignoriamo le sue macchinazioni
12 When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,	12 Ora, essendo venuto in Troas per l’Evangelo di Cristo, ed essendomi aperta una porta nel Signore, non ho avuta alcuna requie nello spirito mio, per non avervi trovato Tito, mio fratello.
13 I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.	13 Anzi, essendomi da loro accommiatato, me ne sono andato in Macedonia.
14 But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.	14 OR ringraziato sia Iddio, il qual fa che sempre trionfiamo in Cristo, e manifesta per noi in ogni luogo l’odor della sua conoscenza.
15 To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;	15 Perciocchè noi siamo il buono odore di Cristo a Dio, fra coloro che son salvati, e fra coloro che periscono;
16 for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?	16 a questi veramente, odor di morte a morte; ma a quelli, odor di vita a vita. E chi è sufficiente a queste cose?
17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.	17 Poichè noi non falsifichiamo la parola di Dio, come molti altri; ma come di sincerità, ma come da parte di Dio, parliamo in Cristo, nel cospetto di Dio
