NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 So no matter who you are, if you pass judgement you have no excuse. It is yourself that you condemnwhen you judge others, since you behave in the same way as those you are condemning.	1 Perciò sei inescusabile, proprio tu che giudichi, chiunque tu sia: con lo stesso atto con cui giudichi gli altri, condanni te stesso: infatti tu che giudichi compi le stesse cose che condanni.
2 We are well aware that people who behave like that are justly condemned by God.	2 Ma sappiamo che il giudizio di Dio si applica secondo verità a coloro che compiono tali cose.
3 But you -- when you judge those who behave like this while you are doing the same yourself -- do youthink you wil escape God's condemnation?	3 O pensi questo, o uomo che giudichi coloro che compiono tali azioni e intanto le compi tu stesso, che sfuggirai al giudizio di Dio?
4 Or are you not disregarding his abundant goodness, tolerance and patience, failing to realise that this generosity of God is meant to bring you to repentance?	4 Oppure disprezzi il tesoro della sua bontà, della sua pazienza, della sua longanimità, senza riconoscere che la benignità di Dio ti spinge alla conversione?
5 Your stubborn refusal to repent is only storing up retribution for yourself on that Day of retribution whenGod's just verdicts wil be made known.	5 Ma per mezzo della tua durezza e della tua coscienza inaccessibile al pentimento, tu ammassi per te un tesoro di collera per il giorno dell'ira e della rivelazione della giustizia giudicatrice di Dio,
6 He wil repay everyone as their deeds deserve.	6 che compenserà ciascuno secondo le sue opere:
7 For those who aimed for glory and honour and immortality by persevering in doing good, there will beeternal life;	7 la vita eterna a quelli che nella perseveranza di un agire onesto cercano gloria, onore, immortalità;
8 but for those who out of jealousy have taken for their guide not truth but injustice, there wil be the furyof retribution.	8 ira e sdegno per coloro che appartengono alla categoria dei ribelli, disobbediscono alla verità, ma obbediscono alla malvagità.
9 Trouble and distress wil come to every human being who does evil -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel ;	9 Tribolazioni e angustie cadranno su ciascun essere umano che attua il male, giudeo in primo luogo e greco;
10 glory and honour and peace will come to everyone who does good -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel .	10 gloria, onore e pace a chiunque opera il bene, giudeo in primo luogo e greco,
11 There is no favouritism with God.	11 poiché Dio non fa distinzioni di persona.
12 Al those who have sinned without the Law wil perish without the Law; and those under the Law whohave sinned wil be judged by the Law.	12 Quanti infatti peccarono senza la legge, periranno senza la legge; parimenti quanti peccarono con la legge, saranno giudicati secondo la legge.
13 For the ones that God wil justify are not those who have heard the Law but those who have kept theLaw.	13 Infatti non coloro che ascoltano la legge sono giusti davanti a Dio, ma coloro che la mettono in pratica saranno dichiarati giusti.
14 So, when gentiles, not having the Law, still through their own innate sense behave as the Lawcommands, then, even though they have no Law, they are a law for themselves.	14 Infatti tutte le volte che i pagani, che non hanno la legge, praticano le azioni prescritte dalla legge, seguendo il dettame della natura, essi, pur non avendo la legge, sono legge per se stessi.
15 They can demonstrate the effect of the Law engraved on their hearts, to which their own consciencebears witness; since they are aware of various considerations, some of which accuse them, while others providethem with a defence . . . on the day when,	15 Essi mostrano che l'opera voluta dalla legge è scritta nei loro cuori, dato che la loro coscienza rende loro testimonianza e i loro ragionamenti si accusano o difendono tra di loro,
16 according to the gospel that I preach, God, through Jesus Christ, judges all human secrets.	16 nel giorno in cui Dio giudicherà i segreti degli uomini secondo il mio vangelo, per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.
17 If you can cal yourself a Jew, and you real y trust in the Law, and are proud of your God,	17 Se poi tu ti vanti di essere giudeo, ti appoggi alla legge e ti glori in Dio;
18 and know his wil , and tel right from wrong because you have been taught by the Law;	18 conosci ciò che Dio vuole e istruito dalla legge distingui le cose migliori,
19 if you are confident that you are a guide to the blind and a beacon to those in the dark,	19 e hai la persuasione di essere guidatore di ciechi, luce di quelli che sono nelle tenebre,
20 that you can teach the ignorant and instruct the unlearned because the Law embodies all knowledgeand all truth-	20 dottore di ignoranti, maestro di fanciulli, possedendo nella legge il paradigma della scienza e della verità...
21 so then, in teaching others, do you teach yourself as wel ? You preach that there is to be no stealing,but do you steal?	21 Tu che istruisci gli altri, non istruisci te stesso? Tu che proclami che non si deve rubare, rubi?
22 You say that adultery is forbidden, but do you commit adultery? You detest the worship of objects, butdo you desecrate holy things yourself?	22 Tu che dici che non si deve compiere adulterio, lo compi? Tu che hai in orrore gli idoli, spogli i templi?
23 If, while you are boasting of the Law, you disobey it, then you are bringing God into contempt.	23 Tu, vantandoti della legge, mediante la trasgressione della legge disonori Dio.
24 As scripture says: It is your fault that the name of God is held in contempt among the nations.	24 Il nome di Dio per causa vostra infatti viene bestemmiato in mezzo ai pagani, come è stato scritto.
25 Circumcision has its value if you keep the Law; but if you go on breaking the Law, you are no morecircumcised than the uncircumcised.	25 La circoncisione infatti ha un'utilità se tu metti in pratica la legge; ma se tu sei prevaricatore della legge, la tua circoncisione diventa incirconcisione.
26 And if an uncircumcised man keeps the commands of the Law, wil not his uncircumcised state countas circumcision?	26 E allora se un incirconciso mette in pratica le opere della legge, la sua incirconcisione non gli varrà forse come circoncisione?
27 More, the man who, in his native uncircumcised state, keeps the Law, is a condemnation of you, who,by your concentration on the letter and on circumcision, actual y break the Law.	27 E il fisicamente incirconciso, che osserva la legge, condannerà te che con i precetti e la circoncisione trasgredisci la legge.
28 Being a Jew is not only having the outward appearance of a Jew, and circumcision is not only avisible physical operation.	28 Infatti il vero giudeo non sta nell'apparenza esterna, né la vera circoncisione è quella che appare nella carne;
29 The real Jew is the one who is inwardly a Jew, and real circumcision is in the heart, a thing not of theletter but of the spirit. He may not be praised by any human being, but he wil be praised by God.	29 ma il vero giudeo lo è al di dentro, e la vera circoncisione è quella del cuore, secondo lo Spirito, non secondo la lettera: questi ha la lode non dagli uomini, ma da Dio.
