1 So no matter who you are, if you pass judgement you have no excuse. It is yourself that you condemnwhen you judge others, since you behave in the same way as those you are condemning.	1 Per la qual cosa inesensabile se' tu, o uomo, chiunque tu sii, che giudichi. Imperocché nello stesso giudicare altrui, te stesso condanni: mentre le stesse cose fai, delle quali tu giudichi.
2 We are well aware that people who behave like that are justly condemned by God.	2 Or noi sappiamo essere il giudizio di Dio secondo la verità contro di costoro, che fanno tal cose.
3 But you -- when you judge those who behave like this while you are doing the same yourself -- do youthink you wil escape God's condemnation?	3 E ti pensi tu forse, o uomo, il quale giudichi chi fa tali cose, e le fai, che sfuggirai il giudizio di Dio?
4 Or are you not disregarding his abundant goodness, tolerance and patience, failing to realise that this generosity of God is meant to bring you to repentance?	4 Disprezzi tu forse le ricchezze della bontà, e pazienza, e tolleranza di lui? non sai tu, che la bontà di Dio a penitenza ti scorge?
5 Your stubborn refusal to repent is only storing up retribution for yourself on that Day of retribution whenGod's just verdicts wil be made known.	5 Ma tu colla tua durezza, e col cuore impenitente ti accumuli un tesoro d'ira pel giorno dell'ira, e della manifestazione del giusto giudizio di Dio,
6 He wil repay everyone as their deeds deserve.	6 Il quale renderà a ciascheduno secondo le opere sue.
7 For those who aimed for glory and honour and immortality by persevering in doing good, there will beeternal life;	7 A quegli, i quali costanti nel ben operare cercano la gloria, l'onore, e l'immortalità, (renderà) vita eterna:
8 but for those who out of jealousy have taken for their guide not truth but injustice, there wil be the furyof retribution.	8 A quelli poi, che sono pertinaci, e non danno retta alla verità, ma ubbidiscono alla ingiustizia, ira, e indignazione.
9 Trouble and distress wil come to every human being who does evil -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel ;	9 Affanno, ed angustia per l'anima di qualunque uomo, che male opera, del Giudeo prima, poi del Greco:
10 glory and honour and peace will come to everyone who does good -- Jews first, but Greeks as wel .	10 Gloria, e onore, e pace a chiunque opera il bene, al Giudeo prima, poi al Greco:
11 There is no favouritism with God.	11 Imperocché non è dinanzi a Dio accettazione di persone.
12 Al those who have sinned without the Law wil perish without the Law; and those under the Law whohave sinned wil be judged by the Law.	12 Conciossiachè tutti quelli, che senza legge hanno peccato, periran senza legge: e tutti quelli, che con la legge hanno peccato, saran condannati dalla legge.
13 For the ones that God wil justify are not those who have heard the Law but those who have kept theLaw.	13 Imperocché non quelli, che ascoltan la legge, sono giusti dinanzi a Dio, ma que', che la legge mettono in pratica, saranno giustificati.
14 So, when gentiles, not having the Law, still through their own innate sense behave as the Lawcommands, then, even though they have no Law, they are a law for themselves.	14 Imperocché quando le genti, le quali non hanno legge, fanno naturalmente le opere della legge, costoro, che legge non hanno, sono legge a se stessi:
15 They can demonstrate the effect of the Law engraved on their hearts, to which their own consciencebears witness; since they are aware of various considerations, some of which accuse them, while others providethem with a defence . . . on the day when,	15 I quali fanno vedere scritto ne' loro cuori il tenor della legge, testimone anche la loro coscienza, e i pensieri, che a vicenda tra di lor si accusano, od anche si difendono
16 according to the gospel that I preach, God, through Jesus Christ, judges all human secrets.	16 Per quel di, nel quale giudicherà Iddio i segreti degli uomini per Gesù Cristo secondo il mio Vangelo.
17 If you can cal yourself a Jew, and you real y trust in the Law, and are proud of your God,	17 Che se tu ti nomi Giudeo e sopra la legge riposi, e in Dio ti glorii,
18 and know his wil , and tel right from wrong because you have been taught by the Law;	18 È la sua volontà conosci, e addottrinato dalla legge distingui quel, che più giova,
19 if you are confident that you are a guide to the blind and a beacon to those in the dark,	19 E ti confidi di essere guida de' ciechi, luce a' quei, che son nelle tenebre,
20 that you can teach the ignorant and instruct the unlearned because the Law embodies all knowledgeand all truth-	20 Precettore degli stolti, maestro de' pargoletti, come quegli, che hai nella legge la idea della scienza, e della verità.
21 so then, in teaching others, do you teach yourself as wel ? You preach that there is to be no stealing,but do you steal?	21 Tu adunque, che insegni ad altri, non insegni a te stesso: tu, che predi, chi, che non dee farsi furto, rubi:
22 You say that adultery is forbidden, but do you commit adultery? You detest the worship of objects, butdo you desecrate holy things yourself?	22 Tu, che dici, non doversi commettere adulterio, sei adultero: tu, che dai in abbominazione gli idoli, fai sacrilegio:
23 If, while you are boasting of the Law, you disobey it, then you are bringing God into contempt.	23 Tu, che ti fai gloria della legge, violando la legge disonori Dio.
24 As scripture says: It is your fault that the name of God is held in contempt among the nations.	24 (Imperocché il nome di Dio per cagion vostra è bestemmiato tra le genti come sta scritto.)
25 Circumcision has its value if you keep the Law; but if you go on breaking the Law, you are no morecircumcised than the uncircumcised.	25 Imperocché la circoncisione giova, se osservi la legge: che se tu se' prevaricatore della legge, tu con la tua circoncisione diventi un incirconciso.
26 And if an uncircumcised man keeps the commands of the Law, wil not his uncircumcised state countas circumcision?	26 Se adunque uno non circonciso osserverà i precetti della legge: non sarà, egli questo incirconciso riputato come circonciso?
27 More, the man who, in his native uncircumcised state, keeps the Law, is a condemnation of you, who,by your concentration on the letter and on circumcision, actual y break the Law.	27 E colui, che per nascita è incirconciso, osservando la legge giudicherà te, il quale con la lettera, e con la circoncisione trasgredisci la legge?
28 Being a Jew is not only having the outward appearance of a Jew, and circumcision is not only avisible physical operation.	28 Imperocché non quegli, che si scorge al di fuori, è il Giudeo: né la circoncisione è quella, che apparisce nella carne:
29 The real Jew is the one who is inwardly a Jew, and real circumcision is in the heart, a thing not of theletter but of the spirit. He may not be praised by any human being, but he wil be praised by God.	29 Ma il Giudeo è quello, che è tale in suo segreto: e la circoncisione è quel la del cuore secondo lo spirito, non secondo la lettera: questa ha lode non presso gli uomini, ma presso Dio.
