Deuteronomy 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'You must keep and put into practice al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that youmay survive and increase in numbers and enter the country which Yahweh promised on oath to your ancestors,and make it your own.	1 - Ogni comando che io oggi ti dò, tu bada bene d'eseguirlo, acciò viviate e vi moltiplichiate, ed entriate al possesso di quella terra della quale il Signore fece giuramento co' padri vostri.
2 Remember the long road by which Yahweh your God led you for forty years in the desert, to humbleyou, to test you and know your inmost heart -- whether you would keep his commandments or not.	2 Ricordati di tutto il cammino nel quale il Signore Dio tuo ti condusse per quaranta anni nel deserto, per castigarti e metterti a prova, acciò divenisse manifesto quel che si rivolgeva nell'animo tuo, se osservavi o no i suoi comandamenti.
3 He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor yourancestors had ever known, to make you understand that human beings live not on bread alone but on everyword that comes from the mouth of Yahweh.	3 Ti afflisse con la fame, e poi ti dette in cibo la manna, che tu ed i padri tuoi non conoscevate, per mostrarti come l'uomo non vive di solo pane, ma d'ogni parola che esce dalla bocca di Dio.
4 The clothes on your back did not wear out and your feet were not swol en, all those forty years.	4 La veste con la quale tu eri coperto non s'è consunta per vecchiezza, nè il tuo piede s'è enfiato [camminando], e son già quaranta anni.
5 'Learn from this that Yahweh your God was training you as a man trains his child,	5 Ripensa dunque in cuor tuo che, come un uomo ha cura del suo figliuolo, così ha avuto cura di te il Signore Dio tuo;
6 and keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and so follow his ways and fear him.	6 osserva perciò i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, cammina per le sue vie, e temilo.
7 'But Yahweh your God is bringing you into a fine country, a land of streams and springs, of waters thatwel up from the deep in val eys and hil s,	7 Giacchè il Signore Dio tuo t'introdurrà in una buona terra, terra di rivi d'acque e di fonti, da' cui piani e monti erompono sorgenti di fiumi;
8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines, of figs, of pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, of honey,	8 terra di frumento, di orzo e di viti, dove nascono fichi, melagrane ed ulivi; terra d'olio e di miele;
9 a land where you will eat bread without stint, where you wil want nothing, a land where the stones areiron and where the hil s may be quarried for copper.	9 dove senza penuria alcuna avrai il tuo pane, e godrai abbondanza d'ogni cosa; terra, le cui pietre son ferro, e ne' monti della quale si scavano miniere di rame;
10 You wil eat and have al you want and you wil bless Yahweh your God in the fine country which hehas given you.	10 perciò, quando avrai mangiato e ti sarai saziato, benedici il Signore Dio tuo per la terra ottima che ti ha data.
11 'Be careful not to forget Yahweh your God, by neglecting his commandments, customs and lawswhich I am laying down for you today.	11 Osserva e bada bene di non dimenticare il Signore Dio tuo, e di non trascurare i suoi comandamenti, le leggi e cerimonie che io oggi ti prescrivo.
12 When you have eaten al you want, when you have built fine houses to live in,	12 Dopo aver mangiato ed esserti satollato, dopo aver edificato belle case ed avervi abitato,
13 when you have seen your flocks and herds increase, your silver and gold abound and all yourpossessions grow great,	13 dopo aver avuto armenti di bovi e greggi di pecore, abbondanza d'argento e d'oro e d'ogni cosa,
14 do not become proud of heart. Do not then forget Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, outof the place of slave-labour,	14 non s'insuperbisca il tuo cuore, e non dimenticare il Signore Dio tuo, che ti cavò dall'Egitto, dal luogo di schiavitù,
15 who guided you through this vast and dreadful desert, a land of fiery snakes, scorpions, thirst;	15 e fu tua guida nel deserto grande e terribile ov'erano serpenti che bruciavano col fiato, scorpioni e vipere, e mancava affatto l'acqua. Egli fece sgorgar fiumi da una rupe durissima,
16 who in this waterless place brought you water out of the flinty rock; who in this desert fed you withmanna unknown to your ancestors, to humble you and test you and so make your future the happier.	16 e ti nutrì nel deserto con la manna che i padri tuoi non conoscevano. E dopo averti castigato e provato, in ultimo ebbe di te misericordia.
17 'Beware of thinking to yourself, "My own strength and the might of my own hand have given me thepower to act like this."	17 Perciò, non dirai in cuor tuo: - La mia fortezza, e la forza delle mie mani m'ha fatto posseder tutte queste cose. -
18 Remember Yahweh your God; he was the one who gave you the strength to act effectively like this,thus keeping then, as today, the covenant which he swore to your ancestors.	18 Ma ti ricorderai del Signore tuo, e che egli solo t'ha dato forza, per mantenere il patto da lui giurato a' tuoi padri, come dimostra il giorno di oggi.
19 Be sure: if you forget Yahweh your God, if you fol ow other gods, if you serve them and bow down tothem -- I testify to you today -- you wil perish.	19 Ma se dimentico del Signore Dio tuo andrai dietro a dèi stranieri, e li onorerai e li adorerai, ecco io ora ti predìco che sarai del tutto disperso.
20 Like the nations Yahweh is to destroy before you, so you yourselves will perish, for not having listenedto the voice of Yahweh your God.'	20 Come le genti che il Signore ha sterminato al tuo arrivo, così anche voi perirete, se sarete disobbedienti alla voce del Signore Dio vostro.
