Deuteronomy 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'You must keep and put into practice al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that youmay survive and increase in numbers and enter the country which Yahweh promised on oath to your ancestors,and make it your own.	1 Todos los mandamientos que yo os prescribo hoy, cuidad de practicarlos, para que viváis, os multipliquéis y lleguéis a tomar posesión de la tierra que Yahveh prometió bajo juramento a vuestros padres.
2 Remember the long road by which Yahweh your God led you for forty years in the desert, to humbleyou, to test you and know your inmost heart -- whether you would keep his commandments or not.	2 Acuérdate de todo el camino que Yahveh tu Dios te ha hecho andar durante estos cuarenta años en el desierto para humillarte, probarte y conocer lo que había en tu corazón: si ibas o no a guardar sus mandamientos.
3 He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor yourancestors had ever known, to make you understand that human beings live not on bread alone but on everyword that comes from the mouth of Yahweh.	3 Te humilló, te hizo pasar hambre, te dio a comer el maná que ni tú ni tus padres habíais conocido, para mostrarte que no sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino que el hombre vive de todo lo que sale de la boca de Yahveh.
4 The clothes on your back did not wear out and your feet were not swol en, all those forty years.	4 No se gastó el vestido que llevabas ni se hincharon tus pies a lo largo de esos cuarenta años.
5 'Learn from this that Yahweh your God was training you as a man trains his child,	5 Date cuenta, pues, de que Yahveh tu Dios te corregía como un hombre corrige a su hijo,
6 and keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and so follow his ways and fear him.	6 y guarda los mandamientos de Yahveh tu Dios siguiendo sus caminos y temiéndole.
7 'But Yahweh your God is bringing you into a fine country, a land of streams and springs, of waters thatwel up from the deep in val eys and hil s,	7 Pues Yahveh tu Dios te conduce a una tierra buena, tierra de torrentes, de fuentes y hontanares que manan en los valles y en las montañas,
8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines, of figs, of pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, of honey,	8 tierra de trigo y de cebada, de viñas, higueras y granados, tierra de olivares, de aceite y de miel,
9 a land where you will eat bread without stint, where you wil want nothing, a land where the stones areiron and where the hil s may be quarried for copper.	9 tierra donde el pan que comas no te será racionado y donde no carecerás de nada; tierra donde las piedras tienen hierro y de cuyas montañas extraerás el bronce.
10 You wil eat and have al you want and you wil bless Yahweh your God in the fine country which hehas given you.	10 Comerás hasta hartarte, y bendecirás a Yahveh tu Dios en esa tierra buena que te ha dado.
11 'Be careful not to forget Yahweh your God, by neglecting his commandments, customs and lawswhich I am laying down for you today.	11 Guárdate de olvidar a Yahveh tu Dios descuidando los mandamientos, normas y preceptos que yo te prescribo hoy;
12 When you have eaten al you want, when you have built fine houses to live in,	12 no sea que cuando comas y quedes harto, cuando construyas hermosas casas y vivas en ellas,
13 when you have seen your flocks and herds increase, your silver and gold abound and all yourpossessions grow great,	13 cuando se multipliquen tus vacadas y tus ovejas, cuando tengas plata y oro en abundancia y se acrecienten todos tus bienes,
14 do not become proud of heart. Do not then forget Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, outof the place of slave-labour,	14 tu corazón se engría y olvides a Yahveh tu Dios que te sacó del país de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre;
15 who guided you through this vast and dreadful desert, a land of fiery snakes, scorpions, thirst;	15 que te ha conducido a través de ese desierto grande y terrible entre serpientes abrasadoras y escorpiones: que en un lugar de sed, sin agua, hizo brotar para ti agua de la roca más dura;
16 who in this waterless place brought you water out of the flinty rock; who in this desert fed you withmanna unknown to your ancestors, to humble you and test you and so make your future the happier.	16 que te alimentó en el desierto con el maná, que no habían conocido tus padres, a fin de humillarte y ponerte a prueba para después hacerte feliz.
17 'Beware of thinking to yourself, "My own strength and the might of my own hand have given me thepower to act like this."	17 No digas en tu corazón: «Mi propia fuerza y el poder de mi mano me han creado esta prosperidad»,
18 Remember Yahweh your God; he was the one who gave you the strength to act effectively like this,thus keeping then, as today, the covenant which he swore to your ancestors.	18 sino acuérdate de Yahveh tu Dios, que es el que te da la fuerza para crear la prosperidad, cumpliendo así la alianza que bajo juramento prometió a tus padres, como lo hace hoy.
19 Be sure: if you forget Yahweh your God, if you fol ow other gods, if you serve them and bow down tothem -- I testify to you today -- you wil perish.	19 Pero si llegas a olvidarte de Yahveh tu Dios, si sigues a otros dioses, si les das culto y te postras ante ellos, yo certifico hoy contra vosotros que pereceréis.
20 Like the nations Yahweh is to destroy before you, so you yourselves will perish, for not having listenedto the voice of Yahweh your God.'	20 Lo mismo que las naciones que Yahveh va destruyendo a vuestro paso, así pereceréis también vosotros por haber desoído la voz de Yahveh vuestro Dios.
