Deuteronomy 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'You must keep and put into practice al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that youmay survive and increase in numbers and enter the country which Yahweh promised on oath to your ancestors,and make it your own.	1 Abbiate cura di osservare tutti i comandamenti che oggi io ti prescrivo, affinchè possiate vivere e moltiplicarvi, ed entrare in possesso della terra giurata dal Signore ai vostri padri.
2 Remember the long road by which Yahweh your God led you for forty years in the desert, to humbleyou, to test you and know your inmost heart -- whether you would keep his commandments or not.	2 Ricordati di tutto il cammino per il quale il Signore ti ha condotto quarantanni nel deserto, per affliggerti e metterti alla prova, per sapere quello che avevi in cuore, se avresti osservato o no i suoi comandamenti.
3 He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor yourancestors had ever known, to make you understand that human beings live not on bread alone but on everyword that comes from the mouth of Yahweh.	3 Dopo averti afflitto colla fame, ti diede per cibo la manna, mai conosciuta nè da te nè dai tuoi padri, per insegnarti che l'uomo non vive di solo pane, ma di ogni parola che procede dalla bocca di Dio.
4 The clothes on your back did not wear out and your feet were not swol en, all those forty years.	4 La tua veste non t'è invecchiata nè ti si è logorata addosso, e il tuo piede non è rimasto mai scalfito, e siamo già al quarantesimo anno.
5 'Learn from this that Yahweh your God was training you as a man trains his child,	5 Riconosci adunque in cuor tuo, che, come un uomo istruisce il suo figlio, così il Signore Dio tuo ti ha istruito;
6 and keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and so follow his ways and fear him.	6 osserva i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, cammina nelle sue vie e temilo,
7 'But Yahweh your God is bringing you into a fine country, a land of streams and springs, of waters thatwel up from the deep in val eys and hil s,	7 perchè il Signore Dio tuo t'introdurrà in un'ottima terra, terra di rivi, di acque e di fontane, dove e nei piani e nei monti zampillano sorgenti di fiumi:
8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines, of figs, of pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, of honey,	8 ferra da grano, da orzo e da viti, dove prosperano i fichi, i melagrani e gli uliveti: terra di olio e di miele,
9 a land where you will eat bread without stint, where you wil want nothing, a land where the stones areiron and where the hil s may be quarried for copper.	9 dove mangerai il tuo pane a volontà, e godrai abbondanza d'ogni cosa: terra dove le pietre sono ferro ed i cui monti danno il rame,
10 You wil eat and have al you want and you wil bless Yahweh your God in the fine country which hehas given you.	10 affìnchè, quando avrai mangiato e sarai satollo, tu renda grazie al Signore Dio tuo dell'ottima terra che ti ha dato.
11 'Be careful not to forget Yahweh your God, by neglecting his commandments, customs and lawswhich I am laying down for you today.	11 Guardati adunque bene dal dimenticarti del Signore Dio tuo, dal trascurare i suoi comandamenti, le sue ordinazioni e le sue cerimonie che oggi ti prescrivo;
12 When you have eaten al you want, when you have built fine houses to live in,	12 onde non avvenga che, dopo aver mangiato a sazietà, dopo avere edificato ed abitato di belle case,
13 when you have seen your flocks and herds increase, your silver and gold abound and all yourpossessions grow great,	13 dopo aver avuto mandre di buoi e greggi di pecore e abbondanza d'oro, d'argento e d'ogni cosa,
14 do not become proud of heart. Do not then forget Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, outof the place of slave-labour,	14 il tuo cuore s'insuperbisca e dimentichi il Signore Dio tuo che ti trasse dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù,
15 who guided you through this vast and dreadful desert, a land of fiery snakes, scorpions, thirst;	15 che fu tua guida nel grande e terribile deserto pieno di serpenti dal fiato ardente, di scorpioni, di dipsadi, e senz'acqua: egli fece sgorgare dei rivi dalla rupe durissima;
16 who in this waterless place brought you water out of the flinty rock; who in this desert fed you withmanna unknown to your ancestors, to humble you and test you and so make your future the happier.	16 Egli nel deserto ti cibò colla manna sconosciuta ai tuoi padri, egli, dopo averti afflitto e provato, ha avuto finalmente misericordia di te,
17 'Beware of thinking to yourself, "My own strength and the might of my own hand have given me thepower to act like this."	17 affinchè, non potendo dire nel tuo cuore: La mia forza ed il vigore del mio braccio m'hanno procurato tutte queste cose,
18 Remember Yahweh your God; he was the one who gave you the strength to act effectively like this,thus keeping then, as today, the covenant which he swore to your ancestors.	18 ti ricordassi del Signore Dio tuo che t'ha dato le forze, per adempire il patto giurato ai tuoi padri, come fa oggi.
19 Be sure: if you forget Yahweh your God, if you fol ow other gods, if you serve them and bow down tothem -- I testify to you today -- you wil perish.	19 Ma se tu, dimenticando il Signore Dio tuo, andrai dietro agli dèi stranieri, rendendo loro culto e adorandoli, te lo predico ora, sarai sterminato.
20 Like the nations Yahweh is to destroy before you, so you yourselves will perish, for not having listenedto the voice of Yahweh your God.'	20 Come le nazioni che il Signore ha distrutte alla tua venuta, così anche voi perirete, se non darete ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio vostro.
