'Suppose a man has taken a wife and consummated the marriage; but she has not pleased him andhe has found some impropriety of which to accuse her; he has therefore made out a writ of divorce for her andhanded it to her and then dismissed her from his house;1 "When a man, after marrying a woman and having relations with her, is later displeased with her because he finds in her something indecent, and therefore he writes out a bill of divorce and hands it to her, thus dismissing her from his house:
she leaves his home and goes away to become the wife of another man.2 if on leaving his house she goes and becomes the wife of another man,
Then suppose this second man who has married her takes a dislike to her and makes out a writ ofdivorce for her and hands it to her and dismisses her from his house or if this other man who took her as his wifedies,3 and the second husband, too, comes to dislike her and dismisses her from his house by handing her a written bill of divorce; or if this second man who has married her, dies;
her first husband, who has repudiated her, may not take her back as his wife now that she has beenmade unclean in this way. For that is detestable in Yahweh's eyes and you must not bring guilt on the countrywhich Yahweh your God is giving you as your heritage.4 then her former husband, who dismissed her, may not again take her as his wife after she has become defiled. That would be an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring such guilt upon the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you as a heritage.

'If you are making your brother a loan on pledge, you must not go into his house and seize thepledge, whatever it may be.10 "When you make a loan of any kind to your neighbor, you shall not enter his house to receive a pledge from him,

And if the man is poor, you must not go to bed with his pledge in your possession;12 If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep in the mantle he gives as a pledge,
you must return it to him at sunset so that he can sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it wil be anupright action on your part in God's view.13 but shall return it to him at sunset that he himself may sleep in it. Then he will bless you, and it will be a good deed of yours before the LORD, your God.

Otherwise he will cry to the LORD against you, and you will be held guilty.
'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children for parents, but each must be put todeath for his own crime.16 "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death.
