Deuteronomy 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'Suppose a man has taken a wife and consummated the marriage; but she has not pleased him andhe has found some impropriety of which to accuse her; he has therefore made out a writ of divorce for her andhanded it to her and then dismissed her from his house;	1 Si un hombre toma una mujer y se casa con ella, y resulta que esta mujer no halla gracia a sus ojos, porque descubre en ella algo que le desagrada, le redactará un libelo de repudio, se lo pondrá en su mano y la despedirá de su casa.
2 she leaves his home and goes away to become the wife of another man.	2 Si después de salir y marcharse de casa de éste, se casa on otro hombre,
3 Then suppose this second man who has married her takes a dislike to her and makes out a writ ofdivorce for her and hands it to her and dismisses her from his house or if this other man who took her as his wifedies,	3 y luego este otro hombre le cobra aversión, le redacta un libelo de repudio, lo pone en su mano y la despide de su casa (o bien, si llega a morir este otro hombre que se ha casado con ella),
4 her first husband, who has repudiated her, may not take her back as his wife now that she has beenmade unclean in this way. For that is detestable in Yahweh's eyes and you must not bring guilt on the countrywhich Yahweh your God is giving you as your heritage.	4 el primer marido que la repudió no podrá volver a tomarla por esposa después de haberse hecho ella impura. Pues sería una abominación a los ojos de Yahveh, y tú no debes hacer pecar a la tierra que Yahveh tu Dios te da en herencia.
5 'If a man is newly married, he must not join the army, nor must he be pestered at home; he must beleft at home, free of al obligations for one year, to make his new wife happy.	5 Si un hombre está recién casado, no saldrá a campaña ni se le impondrá compromiso alguno; quedará exento en su casa durante un año, para recrear a la mujer que ha tomado.
6 'No one may take a mil or a mil stone in pledge; that would be to take life itself in pledge.	6 No se tomará en prenda el molino ni la muela; porque ello sería tomar en prenda la vida misma.
7 'If anyone is caught, having kidnapped one of his brother-Israelites, whether he makes him his slaveor sel s him, that thief must die. You must banish this evil from among you.	7 Si se encuentra a un hombre que haya raptado a uno de sus hermanos, entre los israelitas - ya le haya hecho su esclavo o le haya vendido - ese ladrón debe morir. Harás desaparecer el mal de en medio de ti.
8 'In a case of a virulent skin-disease, take care you faithful y observe and exactly carry out everythingthat the levitical priests direct you to do. You must keep and observe everything that I have commanded them.	8 En caso de lepra, cuida bien de observar y ejecutar todo lo que os enseñen los sacerdotes levitas. Procuraréis poner en práctica lo que yo les he mandado.
9 Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam when you were on your way out of Egypt.	9 Recuerda lo que Yahveh tu Dios hizo con María cuando estabais de camino a la salida de Egipto.
10 'If you are making your brother a loan on pledge, you must not go into his house and seize thepledge, whatever it may be.	10 Si haces algún préstamo a tu prójimo, no entrarás en su casa para tomar la prenda, sea cual fuere.
11 You must stay outside, and the man to whom you are making the loan must bring the pledge out toyou.	11 Te quedarás fuera, y el hombre a quien has hecho el préstamo te sacará la prendra afuera.
12 And if the man is poor, you must not go to bed with his pledge in your possession;	12 Y si es un hombre de condición humilde, no te acostarás guardando su prenda;
13 you must return it to him at sunset so that he can sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it wil be anupright action on your part in God's view.	13 se la devolverás a la puesta del sol, para que pueda acostarse en su manto. Así te bendecirá y habrás hecho una buena acción a los ojos de Yahveh tu Dios.
14 'You must not exploit a poor and needy wage-earner, be he one of your brothers or a foreignerresident in your community.	14 No explotarás al jornalero humilde y pobre, ya sea uno de tus hermanos o un forastero que resida en tus ciudades.
15 You must pay him his wages each day, not al owing the sun to set before you do, since he, beingpoor, needs them badly; otherwise he may appeal to Yahweh against you, and you would incur guilt.	15 Le darás cada día su salario, sin dejar que el sol se ponga sobre esta deuda; porque es pobre, y para vivir necesita de su salario. Así no apelará por ello a Yahveh contra ti, y no te cargarás con un pecado.
16 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children for parents, but each must be put todeath for his own crime.	16 No morirán los padres por culpa de los hijos ni los hijos por culpa de los padres. Cada cual morirá por su propio pecado.
17 'You must not infringe the rights of the foreigner or the orphan; you must not take a widow's clothesin pledge.	17 No torcerás el derecho del forastero ni del huérfano, ni tomarás en prenda el vestido de la viuda.
18 Remember that you were once a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from that.That is why I am giving you this order.	18 Recuerda que fuiste esclavo en el país de Egipto y que Yahveh tu Dios te rescató de allí. Por eso te mando hacer esto.
19 'If, when reaping the harvest in your field, you overlook a sheaf in that field, do not go back for it. Theforeigner, the orphan and the widow shal have it, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in al yourundertakings.	19 Cuando siegues la mies en tu campo, si dejas en él olvidada una gavilla, no volverás a buscarla. Será para el forastero, el huérfano y la viuda, a fin de que Yahveh tu Dios te bendiga en todas tus obras.
20 'When you beat your olive tree, you must not go over the branches twice. The foreigner, the orphanand the widow shall have the rest.	20 Cuando varees tus olivos, no harás rebusco. Lo que quede será para el forastero, el huérfano y la viuda.
21 'When you harvest your vineyard, you must not pick it over a second time. The foreigner, the orphanand the widow shall have the rest.	21 Cuando vendimies tu viña, no harás rebusco. Lo que quede será para el forastero, el huérfano y la viuda.
22 'Remember that you were once a slave in Egypt. That is why I am giving you this order.'	22 Recuerda que fuiste esclavo en el país de Egipto. Por eso te mando hacer esto.
