NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 These are the words which Moses addressed to al Israel beyond the Jordan, in the desert, in theArabah facing Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab.	1 - Questi sono i discorsi che Mosè tenne a tutto Israele, di là dal Giordano, nella pianura deserta, di contro al Mar Rosso, tra Faran, Tofel, Laban e Haserot, dove si trova molt'oro,
2 It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-Barnea.	2 ad undici giornate dall'Horeb, per la via del monte Seir a Cadesbarne.
3 It was in the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, that Moses told the Israeliteseverything that Yahweh had ordered him to tel them.	3 L'anno quarantesimo, il mese undecimo, il giorno primo, Mosè disse ai figliuoli d'Israele tutto quello che il Signore gli aveva comandato di dir loro,
4 He had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who livedat Ashtaroth and Edrei.	4 dopo che ebbe sconfitto Seon re degli Amorrei il quale abitava in Hesebon, ed Og re di Basan il quale stava in Astarot ed in Edrai,
5 There, in Moab beyond the Jordan, Moses resolved to expound this Law. He said:	5 di là dal Giordano nella terra di Moab. Cominciò Mosè a spiegar la legge, dicendo:
6 'Yahweh our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain.	6 «Il Signore Dio nostro ci parlò sull'Horeb e disse: - Basta quanto vi siete fermati su questo monte.
7 Move on, continue your journey, go to the highlands of the Amorites, to al those who live in the Arabah,in the highlands, in the lowlands, in the Negeb and in the coastland; go into Canaan and to Lebanon as far asthe great River Euphrates.	7 Movetevi, e venite al monte degli Amorrei, e ne' luoghi circostanti, campagne, monti e bassure, verso mezzogiorno e lungo il lido del mare, nella terra de' Cananei e del Libano, sino al gran fiume Eufrate.
8 Look, that is the country I have given you; go and take possession of the country that Yahweh promisedon oath to give to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to their descendants after them."	8 Ecco - disse - l'ho data a voi; entratevi, e possedetela, quella terra della quale il Signore giurò ad Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe padri vostri, di darla a loro ed alla loro discendenza. -
9 'At the same time, I told you, "I cannot be responsible for you by myself.	9 In quel tempo io vi dissi:
10 Yahweh your God has increased your numbers, until you are now as numerous as the stars ofheaven.	10 - Non posso io solo governarvi, perchè il Signore Dio vostro vi ha fatti crescere, e siete oggi numerosi come le stelle del cielo.
11 And Yahweh your God is going to increase you a thousand times more, and bless you as he haspromised you.	11 Il Signore Dio dei padri vostri aggiunga ancora a questo numero molte migliaia, e vi benedica come ha detto di fare.
12 So how can I cope by myself with the bitter burden that you are, and with your bickering?	12 Però, non basto io solo a sostener il peso de' vostri affari e delle vostre questioni.
13 From each of your tribes pick wise, shrewd and experienced men for me to make your leaders."	13 Prendete di fra voi degli uomini saggi ed esperti, di costumi riconosciuti esemplari nelle vostre tribù, ed io li costituirò vostri capi. -
14 You replied, "Your plan is good."	14 Allora mi rispondeste: - È buona cosa quella che tu vuoi fare. -
15 So I took your tribal leaders, wise, experienced men, and appointed them to lead you, as captains ofthousands, hundreds, fifties, tens, and as scribes for your tribes.	15 Io presi di fra le vostre tribù uomini saggi ed eletti, e li costituii vostri capi, capi di migliaia, di centinaia, di cinquantine e di diecine, che vi guidassero in ogni cosa.
16 At that same time I told your judges, "You must give your brothers a fair hearing and see justice donebetween one person and his brother or the foreigner living with him.	16 E detti a loro questo ordine: - Ascoltateli, e giudicateli secondo giustizia, siano cittadini nostri o forestieri.
17 You must be impartial in judgement and give an equal hearing to small and great alike. Do not beafraid of any human person, for the verdict is God's. Should a case be too difficult, bring it for me to hear.	17 Non si faccia differenza tra le persone; ascoltate l'umile come il potente, e non guardate alla persona d'alcuno, perchè dev'essere il giudizio di Dio. Che se qualcosa vi parrà difficile a giudicare, riferitela a me, ed io v'ascolterò. -
18 And on that occasion I gave you instructions about everything you were to do."	18 E v'ordinai tutto quello che dovevate fare.
19 'So, as Yahweh our God had ordered, we left Horeb and made our way through that vast and terribledesert, which you saw on the way to the Amorite highlands, and arrived at Kadesh-Barnea.	19 Partiti poi dall'Horeb, attraversammo quel deserto sterminato e terribile che voi vedeste, indirizzati al monte dell'Amorreo, come ci aveva comandato il Signore Dio nostro. Arrivati a Cadesbarne,
20 I then said, "You have now reached the Amorite highlands, which Yahweh our God has given us.	20 vi dissi: -Siete giunti al monte dell'Amorreo, che il Signore Dio nostro darà a noi.
21 Look, Yahweh your God has given you this country. March in, take possession of it as Yahweh, theGod of your ancestors, has said; do not be afraid or discouraged."	21 Vedi [o Israele] la terra che il Signore Dio tuo ti dà; avanzati, per impadronirtene, come il Signore Dio nostro disse a' tuoi padri: non temere, e non aver paura di niente. -
22 Then you al came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead of us to explore the country; they shalreport to us which way we ought to take and what towns we shal come to."	22 Allora vi presentaste a me tutti, e diceste: - Mandiamo degli uomini ad esplorar la regione, perchè ci dicano per quale strada dobbiamo avanzarci, ed a quali città indirizzarci. -
23 This seemed good advice to me and I selected twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.	23 Essendomi piaciuta la proposta, mandai dodici uomini scelti di fra voi, uno per ogni tribù.
24 These men made towards the highlands and went up into them; they reached the Val ey of Eshcol andreconnoitred it.	24 I quali si misero in cammino, salirono fra' monti, e vennero sino alla Valle del Grappolo. Esplorata la terra,
25 They col ected some of the produce of the country and brought it down to us; and they made us thisreport, "Yahweh our God has given us a fine country."	25 presero de' suoi frutti per mostrarcene la fertilità e li portarono a noi, dicendo: - Buona è la terra che il Signore Dio nostro vuol darci. -
26 You, however, refused to go up there and rebelled against the voice of Yahweh your God.	26 Ma voi non voleste muovervi; increduli alle parole del Signore Dio nostro,
27 You muttered in your tents, saying, "Yahweh hates us, and that is why he has brought us out of Egypt,to put us into the Amorites' power and so destroy us.	27 mormoraste nelle vostre tende, e diceste: - Il Signore ci vuol male; ci ha cavati dall'Egitto per darci in mano all'Amorreo, e distruggerci.
28 What kind of place are we making for? Our brothers have discouraged us by saying that the peopleare stronger and tal er than we are, the cities immense, with wal s reaching to the sky. And we have seenAnakim there too."	28 Dove andremo? Degli esploratori ci hanno incusso spavento, dicendo: "V'è una popolazione numerosissima, e di statura molto più alta di noi; città grandi, fortificate fino al cielo; vi abbiamo veduto degli uomini della razza d'Enac". -
29 'And I said to you, "Do not take fright, do not be afraid of them.	29 Ed io vi dissi: - Non temete, e non n'abbiate paura.
30 Yahweh your God goes ahead of you and wil be fighting on your side, just as you saw him act inEgypt.	30 Il Signore Dio, che è il vostro condottiere, combatterà egli stesso per voi, come già fece in Egitto a vista di tutti. -
31 You have seen him in the desert too: Yahweh your God continued to support you, as a man supportshis son, al along the road you followed until you arrived here."	31 E nel deserto, tu stesso l'hai visto [o Israele], il Signore Dio tuo t'ha portato in braccio come un uomo suol portare il figlio suo fanciullino, in tutto il viaggio che avete fatto per arrivare in questo luogo.
32 But for al this, you put no faith in Yahweh your God,	32 Ma nemmeno così credeste al Signore Dio vostro,
33 going ahead of you on the journey to find you a camping ground, by night in the fire to light your path,and in the cloud by day.	33 il quale era andato innanzi a voi nel vostro cammino, e v'aveva segnato dove piantar le tende, mostrandovi la strada di notte, con una colonna di fuoco, e di giorno con una di nube.
34 'Yahweh heard what you were saying and in his anger swore this oath,	34 Or quando il Signore ebbe udito il suono dei vostri lamenti, sdegnato disse e giurò:
35 "Not one of these people, this perverse generation, will see the fine country I swore to give yourancestors,	35 - Nessuno degli uomini di questa generazione perversa vedrà quella terra buona che io con giuramento promisi ai padri vostri,
36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He wil see it. To him and to his children I shal give the land he hasset foot on, for he has been perfectly obedient to Yahweh."	36 eccetto Caleb figlio di Iefone; egli la vedrà, ed io darò a lui ed ai suoi figli la terra da lui esplorata, perchè è stato fedele al Signore. -
37 Yahweh was angry with me too, because of you. "You wil not go in either," he said.	37 Nè fa meraviglia ch'egli s'indignasse col popolo, mentre a me pure disse il Signore, sdegnato per cagion vostra: - Nemmeno tu vi metterai piede;
38 "Your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will be the one to enter. Encourage him, since he is to bring Israelinto possession of the country.	38 ma in vece tua vi entrerà Giosuè figlio di Nun, tuo aiutante. Tu esortalo ed incoraggialo, ed egli spartirà a sorte la terra ad Israele.
39 And your little ones too, who, you said, would be seized as booty, these children of yours who do notyet know good from evil, they wil go in; I shall give it to them and they wil own it.	39 I vostri bambini, de' quali avete detto che sarebbero stati fatti prigionieri, ed i figli vostri che ancora non conoscono la differenza tra il bene ed il male, quelli v'entreranno, e darò a loro quella regione, e la possederanno.
40 But, as regards yourselves, turn round, go back into the desert, towards the Sea of Suph."	40 Quanto a voi, tornatevene indietro, e andate nel deserto per la via del Mar Rosso. -
41 'In reply, you then said to me, "We have sinned against Yahweh our God. We shall go up and fight justas Yahweh our God has ordered us." And each one of you buckled on his arms and equipped himself to marchup into the highlands.	41 Allora mi rispondeste: - Abbiamo peccato contro il Signore; saliremo, e combatteremo, come ha comandato il Signore Dio nostro. - Ma mentre in ordine di battaglia andavate verso la montagna,
42 But Yahweh said to me, "Tel them this: Do not go up and fight. I am not with you. Do not letyourselves be defeated by your enemies."	42 il Signore, mi disse: - Di' loro: "Non salite, e non combattete, se non volete esser battuti da' vostri nemici; perchè io non sono con voi". -
43 So I told you, but you would not listen, and you rebel ed against the voice of Yahweh; presumptuouslyyou marched into the highlands.	43 Io ve lo riferii, e non mi ascoltaste; ma resistendo al comando del Signore, gonfi di superbia, saliste verso il monte.
44 The Amorites, who live in that country of hil s, came swarming out against you like bees, pursued youand beat you from Seir to Hormah.	44 Uscito fuori l'Amorreo che abitava sui monti, e venutovi incontro, v'assalì come soglion assalire le api, e vi fece a pezzi da Seir sino ad Horma.
45 On your return, you wept in Yahweh's presence, but he would not listen to your cries or pay attention.	45 Quando ritornati vi metteste a piangere innanzi al Signore, egli non v'ascoltò, nè volle arrendersi alle vostre grida.
46 That was why you had to stay at Kadesh as long as you did.'	46 Così rimaneste per molto tempo in Cadesbarne.
