Deuteronomy 1

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 These are the words which Moses addressed to al Israel beyond the Jordan, in the desert, in theArabah facing Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab.	1 Ezek azok a szavak, amelyeket Mózes egész Izraelhez intézett a Jordánon túl, a pusztában, a Mezőségen, a Vörös-tengerrel átellenben, Párán, Tófel, Lábán és Hácerót között, ahol igen sok arany van.
2 It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-Barnea.	2 Tizenegy napig tart a járás a Hórebtől a Szeír hegy felé vivő úton Kádes-Barneáig.
3 It was in the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, that Moses told the Israeliteseverything that Yahweh had ordered him to tel them.	3 A negyvenedik esztendőben, a tizenegyedik hónapban, a hó első napján Mózes elmondta Izrael fiainak mindazt, amit megparancsolt neki az Úr,
4 He had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who livedat Ashtaroth and Edrei.	4 miután megverte Szihont, az amoriták királyát, aki Hesebonban lakott, meg Ógot, Básán királyát, aki Astarótban és Edráiban lakott.
5 There, in Moab beyond the Jordan, Moses resolved to expound this Law. He said:	5 A Jordánon túl Moáb földjén kezdte el Mózes kifejteni a törvényt ezekkel a szavakkal:
6 'Yahweh our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain.	6 »Az Úr, a mi Istenünk szólt hozzánk a Hóreben, és azt mondta: ‘Eleget voltatok már ennél a hegynél!
7 Move on, continue your journey, go to the highlands of the Amorites, to al those who live in the Arabah,in the highlands, in the lowlands, in the Negeb and in the coastland; go into Canaan and to Lebanon as far asthe great River Euphrates.	7 Forduljatok meg, és menjetek el az amoriták hegységére, s a többi helyre, amely annak közelében van: a Mezőségre, a Hegyvidékre, az Alföldre, a Délvidékre, a tenger mellékére, a kánaániak földjére és a Libanonra, egészen a nagy folyóig, az Eufráteszig.
8 Look, that is the country I have given you; go and take possession of the country that Yahweh promisedon oath to give to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to their descendants after them."	8 Íme, mondom, nektek adtam azt: menjetek be, és foglaljátok el azt a földet, amely felől megesküdött az Úr atyáitoknak, Ábrahámnak, Izsáknak és Jákobnak, hogy nekik és utódaiknak adja.’
9 'At the same time, I told you, "I cannot be responsible for you by myself.	9 Ugyanabban az időben én azt mondtam nektek:
10 Yahweh your God has increased your numbers, until you are now as numerous as the stars ofheaven.	10 Egymagam nem boldogulok veletek, mert az Úr, a ti Istenetek megsokasított titeket, s immár olyan sokan vagytok, mint az ég csillagai.
11 And Yahweh your God is going to increase you a thousand times more, and bless you as he haspromised you.	11 Adjon az Úr, atyáitok Istene még sok ezret e számhoz, s áldjon meg titeket, amint mondta! –
12 So how can I cope by myself with the bitter burden that you are, and with your bickering?	12 De én egymagam nem győzöm ügyeiteket, terheiteket és pereiteket.
13 From each of your tribes pick wise, shrewd and experienced men for me to make your leaders."	13 Adjatok tehát közületek bölcs és értelmes férfiakat, akiknek magaviselete törzseitekben elismert, hogy feljebbvalóitokká tegyem őket.
14 You replied, "Your plan is good."	14 Ekkor ti ezt feleltétek nekem: ‘Jó dolog, amit tenni akarsz.’
15 So I took your tribal leaders, wise, experienced men, and appointed them to lead you, as captains ofthousands, hundreds, fifties, tens, and as scribes for your tribes.	15 Vettem tehát törzseitekből bölcs és nemes férfiakat, és megtettem őket feljebbvalóitokká: ezrek, százak, ötvenek és tizek fejeivé, hogy tanítsanak titeket mindenben.
16 At that same time I told your judges, "You must give your brothers a fair hearing and see justice donebetween one person and his brother or the foreigner living with him.	16 Aztán megparancsoltam nekik: Hallgassátok meg őket, s ami igazságos, azt ítéljétek, akár bennszülött az illető, akár idegen.
17 You must be impartial in judgement and give an equal hearing to small and great alike. Do not beafraid of any human person, for the verdict is God's. Should a case be too difficult, bring it for me to hear.	17 Semmi különbség se legyen a személyek között: a kicsit éppúgy hallgassátok meg, mint a nagyot, senkinek a személyére se tekintsetek, mert Isten ügye az ítélet. Ha valami nehéznek tűnik nektek, terjesszétek elém, azt én hallgatom meg.
18 And on that occasion I gave you instructions about everything you were to do."	18 Aztán megparancsoltam mindazt, amit tennetek kell.
19 'So, as Yahweh our God had ordered, we left Horeb and made our way through that vast and terribledesert, which you saw on the way to the Amorite highlands, and arrived at Kadesh-Barnea.	19 Ezek után elindultunk a Hórebtől, és átmentünk azon a rettenetes és végtelen nagy pusztán, amelyet láttatok, az amoriták hegysége felé vivő úton, amint az Úr, a mi Istenünk parancsolta nekünk. Amikor aztán Kádes-Barneába jutottunk,
20 I then said, "You have now reached the Amorite highlands, which Yahweh our God has given us.	20 azt mondtam nektek: Eljutottatok az amoriták hegységéig, amelyet az Úr, a mi Istenünk nekünk ad.
21 Look, Yahweh your God has given you this country. March in, take possession of it as Yahweh, theGod of your ancestors, has said; do not be afraid or discouraged."	21 Lásd e földet, amelyet az Úr, a te Istened neked ad, menj fel, és foglald el, amint az Úr, a mi Istenünk atyáidnak mondta; ne félj és semmit se rettegj.
22 Then you al came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead of us to explore the country; they shalreport to us which way we ought to take and what towns we shal come to."	22 Erre valamennyien elém járultatok, és azt mondtátok: ‘Küldjünk el férfiakat, hogy vegyék szemügyre a földet, és mondják meg, melyik úton kell felmennünk, és mely városokba kell mennünk.’
23 This seemed good advice to me and I selected twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.	23 Mivel tetszett nekem ez a beszéd, elküldtem közületek tizenkét férfit, egyet-egyet minden törzsből.
24 These men made towards the highlands and went up into them; they reached the Val ey of Eshcol andreconnoitred it.	24 Azok el is indultak, felmentek a hegységre, és eljutottak egészen a Szőlőfürt völgyéig. Szemügyre vették a földet,
25 They col ected some of the produce of the country and brought it down to us; and they made us thisreport, "Yahweh our God has given us a fine country."	25 vettek gyümölcséből, s hogy megmutassák termékenységét, elhozták hozzánk, és azt mondták: ‘Jó az a föld, amelyet az Úr, a mi Istenünk adni fog nekünk.’
26 You, however, refused to go up there and rebelled against the voice of Yahweh your God.	26 Ti azonban nem akartatok felmenni, hanem ellene szegültetek az Úr, a mi Istenünk szavának.
27 You muttered in your tents, saying, "Yahweh hates us, and that is why he has brought us out of Egypt,to put us into the Amorites' power and so destroy us.	27 Zúgolódtatok sátraitokban, és azt mondtátok: ‘Gyűlöl minket az Úr. Azért hozott ki minket Egyiptom földjéről, hogy az amoriták kezébe adjon, és eltöröljön bennünket.
28 What kind of place are we making for? Our brothers have discouraged us by saying that the peopleare stronger and tal er than we are, the cities immense, with wal s reaching to the sky. And we have seenAnakim there too."	28 Hova menjünk fel? Maguk a kémek félemlítették meg szívünket, mert azt mondták: Igen nagy az a sokaság, termetre szálasabb nálunknál, a városok nagyok, és meg vannak erősítve az égig: az enakiták fiait láttuk mi ott.’
29 'And I said to you, "Do not take fright, do not be afraid of them.	29 Erre én azt mondtam nektek: Ne rettegjetek, és ne féljetek tőlük.
30 Yahweh your God goes ahead of you and wil be fighting on your side, just as you saw him act inEgypt.	30 Az Úr Isten, aki vezet titeket, maga fog harcolni értetek, mint ahogy Egyiptomban cselekedett mindenki szeme láttára.
31 You have seen him in the desert too: Yahweh your God continued to support you, as a man supportshis son, al along the road you followed until you arrived here."	31 A pusztában is – te magad láttad –, úgy hordozott téged az Úr, a te Istened, mint ahogy az ember szokta hordozni kicsi gyermekét, az egész úton, amelyen jártatok, amíg eljutottatok erre a helyre.
32 But for al this, you put no faith in Yahweh your God,	32 De még ekkor sem hittetek az Úrnak, a ti Isteneteknek,
33 going ahead of you on the journey to find you a camping ground, by night in the fire to light your path,and in the cloud by day.	33 aki előttetek járt az úton, és kijelölte a helyet, ahol sátraitokat fel kellett állítanotok, és éjszaka tűz által mutatta nektek az utat, nappal pedig felhőoszlop által.
34 'Yahweh heard what you were saying and in his anger swore this oath,	34 Amikor aztán az Úr meghallotta siránkozásotokat, megharagudott és megesküdött:
35 "Not one of these people, this perverse generation, will see the fine country I swore to give yourancestors,	35 ‘E gonosz nemzedéknek férfiai közül senki sem fogja meglátni azt a jó földet, amelyet esküvel ígértem atyáitoknak –
36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He wil see it. To him and to his children I shal give the land he hasset foot on, for he has been perfectly obedient to Yahweh."	36 kivéve Kálebet, Jefóne fiát: ő ugyanis meglátja, és neki meg fiainak adom azt a földet, amelyet taposott, mert követte az Urat.’ –
37 Yahweh was angry with me too, because of you. "You wil not go in either," he said.	37 Nem is lehet csodálni a nép ellen való haragját, amikor még énrám is megharagudott az Úr miattatok, s így szólt: ‘Te sem mégy be oda!
38 "Your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will be the one to enter. Encourage him, since he is to bring Israelinto possession of the country.	38 Józsue, Nún fia, a te szolgád megy be helyetted. Biztasd őt, és erősítsd, mert ő osztja el sorshúzással azt a földet Izraelnek.
39 And your little ones too, who, you said, would be seized as booty, these children of yours who do notyet know good from evil, they wil go in; I shall give it to them and they wil own it.	39 Gyermekeitek, akikről azt mondtátok, hogy fogságba kerülnek, s fiaitok, akik ma még nem ismerik a jó és rossz különbségét, azok mennek be; nekik adom azt a földet, s ők foglalják el.
40 But, as regards yourselves, turn round, go back into the desert, towards the Sea of Suph."	40 Ti azonban forduljatok meg, s menjetek vissza a pusztába, a Vörös-tenger felé vivő úton!’
41 'In reply, you then said to me, "We have sinned against Yahweh our God. We shall go up and fight justas Yahweh our God has ordered us." And each one of you buckled on his arms and equipped himself to marchup into the highlands.	41 Erre ti azt feleltétek nekem: ‘Vétkeztünk az Úr ellen; felmegyünk és harcolunk, amint az Úr, a mi Istenünk parancsolta.’ Amikor aztán felfegyverkeztetek, s a hegyre tartottatok,
42 But Yahweh said to me, "Tel them this: Do not go up and fight. I am not with you. Do not letyourselves be defeated by your enemies."	42 azt mondta nekem az Úr: ‘Mondd nekik: Ne menjetek fel, s ne harcoljatok, mert nem vagyok veletek, hogy el ne hulljatok ellenségeitek előtt.’
43 So I told you, but you would not listen, and you rebel ed against the voice of Yahweh; presumptuouslyyou marched into the highlands.	43 Én szóltam, de ti nem hallgattatok rám, hanem szembeszálltatok az Úr parancsával, és felfuvalkodottan felmentetek a hegyre.
44 The Amorites, who live in that country of hil s, came swarming out against you like bees, pursued youand beat you from Seir to Hormah.	44 Erre kijöttek az amoriták, akik a hegységben laktak, felvonultak ellenetek, és úgy megkergettek titeket, ahogy a méhek szokták megkergetni az embert, és vágtak titeket Szeírtől Hormáig.
45 On your return, you wept in Yahweh's presence, but he would not listen to your cries or pay attention.	45 Amikor aztán visszatértetek és sírtatok az Úr előtt, ő nem hallgatott meg titeket, s nem akart figyelni szavatokra.
46 That was why you had to stay at Kadesh as long as you did.'	46 Így hosszú időn keresztül Kádes-Barneában maradtatok.
