NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you wil lose al rewardfrom your Father in heaven.	1 "Badate di non praticare la vostra giustizia davanti agli uomini per essere da loro ammirati; altrimenti non avrete ricompensa presso il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in thesynagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	2 Quando dunque tu fai l'elemosina, non metterti a suonare la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gl'ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, per averne gloria presso gli uomini. In verità vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
3 But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing;	3 Ma mentre fai l'elemosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quello che fa la tua destra,
4 your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	4 in modo che la tua elemosina rimanga nel segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto te ne darà la ricompensa".
5 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in thesynagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	5 "E quando pregate, non siate come gli ipocriti che amano pregare stando ritti nelle sinagoghe e negli angoli delle piazze, per farsi notare dagli uomini. In verità vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
6 But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in thatsecret place, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	6 Ma tu, quando vuoi pregare, entra nella tua camera e, serratone l'uscio, prega il Padre tuo che sta nel segreto, e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto te ne darà la ricompensa.
7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they wil makethemselves heard.	7 Pregando, poi, non sprecate parole come i gentili, i quali credono di essere esauditi per la loro verbosità.
8 Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.	8 Non vi fate simili a loro, poiché il Padre vostro conosce le vostre necessità ancor prima che gliene facciate richiesta".
9 So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,	9 "Voi dunque pregate così: Padre nostro che sei nei cieli, sia santificato il tuo nome,
10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.	10 venga il tuo regno, sia fatta la tua volontà come in cielo, così in terra.
11 Give us today our daily bread.	11 Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano,
12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.	12 rimetti a noi i nostri debiti, come noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori;
13 And do not put us to the test, but save us from the Evil One.	13 e non c'indurre in tentazione, ma liberaci dal male.
14 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father wil forgive you yours;	14 Infatti, se avrete rimesso agli uomini le loro mancanze, rimetterà anche a voi il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
15 but if you do not forgive others, your Father wil not forgive your failings either.	15 Qualora invece non rimetterete agli uomini, neppure il Padre vostro rimetterà le vostre mancanze".
16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about lookingunsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	16 "Quando digiunate, non prendete un aspetto triste, come gli ipocriti, i quali si sfigurano la faccia per farsi vedere dagli uomini che digiunano. In verità vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,	17 Ma tu, quando digiuni, ùngiti la testa e làvati il viso,
18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees al that is done in secret; andyour Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	18 per non far vedere agli uomini che digiuni, ma solo al Padre tuo che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto te ne darà la ricompensa".
19 'Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them andthieves can break in and steal.	19 "Non vi affannate ad accumulare tesori sulla terra, dove tignola e ruggine consumano, dove ladri scassìnano e portano via.
20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them andthieves cannot break in and steal.	20 Accumulàtevi tesori in cielo, dove tignola e ruggine non consumano né ladri scassìnano e portano via.
21 For wherever your treasure is, there wil your heart be too.	21 Infatti, dov'è il tuo tesoro, lì sarà pure il tuo cuore".
22 'The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be fil ed withlight.	22 "La lucerna del corpo è l'occhio. Se dunque il tuo occhio è terso, tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato.
23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened,what darkness that wil be!	23 Ma se per caso il tuo occhio è malato, tutto il tuo corpo sarà nelle tenebre. Se dunque la luce che è in te è tenebra, quanta sarà l'oscurità?".
24 'No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.	24 "Nessuno può servire a due padroni; poiché o odierà l'uno e amerà l'altro, oppure si affezionerà all'uno e trascurerà l'altro. Non potete servire a Dio e a mammona".
25 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your bodyand what you are to wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body more than clothing!	25 "Per questo vi dico: per la vostra vita non affannatevi di quello che mangerete o berrete, né per il vostro corpo di come vestirvi. Non vale forse la vita più del cibo e il corpo più del vestito?
26 Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?	26 Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non seminano, non mietono né raccolgono in granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre; e voi non valete più di loro?
27 Can any of you, however much you worry, add one single cubit to your span of life?	27 Chi di voi, per quanto si dia da fare, è capace di aggiungere un solo cùbito alla propria statura?
28 And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work orspin;	28 E quanto al vestito, perché vi angustiate? Osservate i gigli del campo, come crescono: non lavorano, non tessono.
29 yet I assure you that not even Solomon in al his royal robes was clothed like one of these.	29 Eppure vi dico che neanche Salomone in tutta la sua magnificenza vestiva come uno di essi.
30 Now if that is how God clothes the wild flowers growing in the field which are there today and throwninto the furnace tomorrow, wil he not much more look after you, you who have so little faith?	30 Se Dio veste così l'erba del campo che oggi è e domani viene gettata nel fuoco, quanto più vestirà voi, gente di poca fede?
31 So do not worry; do not say, "What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What are we to wear?"	31 Non vi angustiate, dunque, dicendo: "Che mangeremo? Che berremo?" oppure: "Di che ci vestiremo?".
32 It is the gentiles who set their hearts on al these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need themal .	32 Tutte queste cose le ricercano i gentili. Ora sa il Padre vostro celeste che avete bisogno di tutte queste cose.
33 Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and al these other things wil begiven you as wel .	33 Cercate prima il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia, e tutte queste altre cose vi saranno date in sovrappiù.
34 So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow wil take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of itsown.'	34 Non vi angustiate dunque per il domani, poiché il domani avrà già le sue inquietudini. Basta a ciascun giorno la sua pena".
