NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you wil lose al rewardfrom your Father in heaven.	1 - Guardatevi dal fare le vostre buone opere dinanzi agli uomini per essere veduti da loro, altrimenti non ne avrete la ricompensa dal Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in thesynagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	2 Quando dunque fai l'elemosina non sonare la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gli ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade per essere onorati dagli uomini. In verità vi dico che han già ricevuto il loro premio.
3 But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing;	3 Ma quando fai elemosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quello che fa la destra,
4 your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	4 cosicchè la tua elemosina sia fatta in segreto, e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa.
5 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in thesynagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	5 Quando pregate, non fate come gl'ipocriti, i quali amano di stare a pregare nelle sinagoghe e agli angoli delle piazze per essere visti dagli uomini; in verità vi dico che essi han già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
6 But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in thatsecret place, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	6 Ma tu, quando vuoi pregare, entra nella tua camera, chiudi la porta e prega il Padre tuo in segreto, e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti esaudirà.
7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they wil makethemselves heard.	7 Nel pregare poi, non abbondare di parole come fanno i pagani, che credono di essere esauditi moltiplicando le parole.
8 Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.	8 Non imitateli, perchè il Padre vostro sa ciò che vi occorre anche prima che glielo domandiate.
9 So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,	9 Voi, dunque, pregherete così:- Padre nostro, che sei nei cieli,Sia santificato il tuo nome;
10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.	10 Venga il tuo regno; Sia fatta la tua volontà, come in cielo così in terra.
11 Give us today our daily bread.	11 Dacci oggi il pane necessario alla nostra sussistenza.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.	12 E perdona a noi i nostri debiti, come anche noi li perdoniamo ai nostri debitori.
13 And do not put us to the test, but save us from the Evil One.	13 E non c'indurre in tentazione, ma liberaci dal male. Così sia. -
14 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father wil forgive you yours;	14 Perchè se voi perdonate agli uomini le loro mancanze, anche a voi le perdonerà il Padre vostro celeste;
15 but if you do not forgive others, your Father wil not forgive your failings either.	15 ma se non perdonate agli uomini, nemmeno il Padre vostro vi perdonerà i vostri peccati.
16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about lookingunsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	16 Quando poi digiunate, non vogliate imitare gli ipocriti, che prendono un'aria malinconica e sfigurano la faccia per far vedere agli uomini che digiunano. In verità, vi dico che han già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,	17 Tu invece quando digiuni, ungiti il capo e lavati la faccia,
18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees al that is done in secret; andyour Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	18 affinchè non agli uomini tu appaia come uno che digiuni, ma al Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; ed il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti darà la ricompensa.
19 'Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them andthieves can break in and steal.	19 Non accumulate tesori sulla terra, ove la ruggine e il tarlo li consumano e dove i ladri li dissotterrano e li rubano;
20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them andthieves cannot break in and steal.	20 accumulate invece tesori nel cielo, ove nè la ruggine nè il tarlo li consumano e dove i ladri non li dissotterrano nè li rubano.
21 For wherever your treasure is, there wil your heart be too.	21 Poichè dov'è il tuo tesoro, là v'è anche il tuo cuore.
22 'The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be fil ed withlight.	22 La lucerna del tuo corpo è il tuo occhio: se il tuo occhio è sano, tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato;
23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened,what darkness that wil be!	23 ma se il tuo occhio è torbido tutto il tuo corpo sarà nelle tenebre. Se adunque la luce che è in te, è oscurità, quanto grandi saranno le tenebre!
24 'No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.	24 Nessuno può servire a due padroni, perchè od odierà l'uno e amerà l'altro, o si attaccherà all'uno e disprezzerà l'altro. Non potete servir Dio e Mammona.
25 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your bodyand what you are to wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body more than clothing!	25 Perciò vi dico: - Non siate troppo solleciti per la vostra vita, di quel che mangerete o berrete, nè per il vostro corpo, di quel di cui vi vestirete. La vita non vale più del nutrimento e il corpo più del vestito?
26 Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?	26 Osservate gli uccelli dell'aria, che non seminano, non mietono e non raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre. Ora, non siete voi molto di più di essi?
27 Can any of you, however much you worry, add one single cubit to your span of life?	27 E chi di voi, a furia di pensarci su, può aggiungere un cubito alla propria statura?
28 And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work orspin;	28 E perchè darvi tanta pena per il vestito? Considerate come crescono i gigli del campo; essi non lavorano e non filano.
29 yet I assure you that not even Solomon in al his royal robes was clothed like one of these.	29 Tuttavia vi dico che neppur Salomone, con tutto il suo splendore, fu mai vestito come uno di essi.
30 Now if that is how God clothes the wild flowers growing in the field which are there today and throwninto the furnace tomorrow, wil he not much more look after you, you who have so little faith?	30 Se dunque Dio riveste così l'erba del campo, che oggi è e domani vien buttata nel forno, quanto a maggior ragione vestirà voi, o uomini di poca fede?-
31 So do not worry; do not say, "What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What are we to wear?"	31 Non vogliate dunque preoccuparvi, dicendo: Cosa mangeremo? - oppure: - Cosa berremo? o di che ci vestiremo? -
32 It is the gentiles who set their hearts on al these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need themal .	32 Sono i Gentili che cercan tutto ciò, mentre il Padre vostro sa che n'avete bisogno.
33 Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and al these other things wil begiven you as wel .	33 Cercate prima il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia e tutto il resto vi sarà dato per giunta.
34 So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow wil take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of itsown.'	34 Non preoccupatevi dunque per il domani, poichè il domani sarà sollecito di se stesso. A ciascun giorno basta il suo affanno.
