Matthew 6

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you wil lose al rewardfrom your Father in heaven.	1 "Gardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes, pour vous faire remarquer d'eux;sinon, vous n'aurez pas de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in thesynagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	2 Quand donc tu fais l'aumône, ne va pas le claironner devant toi; ainsi font les hypocrites, dans lessynagogues et les rues, afin d'être glorifiés par les hommes; en vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
3 But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing;	3 Pour toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ignore ce que fait ta main droite,
4 your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	4 afin que ton aumône soit secrète; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
5 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in thesynagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	5 "Et quand vous priez, ne soyez pas comme les hypocrites: ils aiment, pour faire leurs prières, à secamper dans les synagogues et les carrefours, afin qu'on les voie. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
6 But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in thatsecret place, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	6 Pour toi, quand tu pries, retire-toi dans ta chambre, ferme sur toi la porte, et prie ton Père qui est là,dans le secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they wil makethemselves heard.	7 "Dans vos prières, ne rabâchez pas comme les païens: ils s'imaginent qu'en parlant beaucoup ils seferont mieux écouter.
8 Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.	8 N'allez pas faire comme eux; car votre Père sait bien ce qu'il vous faut, avant que vous le luidemandiez.
9 So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,	9 "Vous donc, priez ainsi: Notre Père qui es dans les cieux, que ton Nom soit sanctifié,
10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.	10 que ton Règne vienne, que ta Volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel.
11 Give us today our daily bread.	11 Donne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.	12 Remets-nous nos dettes comme nous-mêmes avons remis à nos débiteurs.
13 And do not put us to the test, but save us from the Evil One.	13 Et ne nous soumets pas à la tentation; mais délivre-nous du Mauvais.
14 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father wil forgive you yours;	14 "Oui, si vous remettez aux hommes leurs manquements, votre Père céleste vous remettra aussi;
15 but if you do not forgive others, your Father wil not forgive your failings either.	15 mais si vous ne remettez pas aux hommes, votre Père non plus ne vous remettra pas vosmanquements.
16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about lookingunsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.	16 "Quand vous jeûnez, ne vous donnez pas un air sombre comme font les hypocrites: ils prennentune mine défaite, pour que les hommes voient bien qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,	17 Pour toi, quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,
18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees al that is done in secret; andyour Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.	18 pour que ton jeûne soit connu, non des hommes, mais de ton Père qui est là, dans le secret; et tonPère, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
19 'Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them andthieves can break in and steal.	19 "Ne vous amassez point de trésors sur la terre, où la mite et le ver consument, où les voleurspercent et cambriolent.
20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them andthieves cannot break in and steal.	20 Mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel: là, point de mite ni de ver qui consument, point devoleurs qui perforent et cambriolent.
21 For wherever your treasure is, there wil your heart be too.	21 Car où est ton trésor, là sera aussi ton coeur.
22 'The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be fil ed withlight.	22 "La lampe du corps, c'est l'oeil. Si donc ton oeil est sain, ton corps tout entier sera lumineux.
23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened,what darkness that wil be!	23 Mais si ton oeil est malade, ton corps tout entier sera ténébreux. Si donc la lumière qui est en toiest ténèbres, quelles ténèbres!
24 'No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.	24 "Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres: ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un etméprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et l'Argent.
25 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your bodyand what you are to wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body more than clothing!	25 "Voilà pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, nipour votre corps de quoi vous le vêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que levêtement?
26 Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?	26 Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent ni ne recueillent en des greniers, etvotre Père céleste les nourrit! Ne valez-vous pas plus qu'eux?
27 Can any of you, however much you worry, add one single cubit to your span of life?	27 Qui d'entre vous d'ailleurs peut, en s'en inquiétant, ajouter une seule coudée à la longueur de savie?
28 And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work orspin;	28 Et du vêtement, pourquoi vous inquiéter? Observez les lis des champs, comme ils poussent: ils nepeinent ni ne filent.
29 yet I assure you that not even Solomon in al his royal robes was clothed like one of these.	29 Or je vous dis que Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
30 Now if that is how God clothes the wild flowers growing in the field which are there today and throwninto the furnace tomorrow, wil he not much more look after you, you who have so little faith?	30 Que si Dieu habille de la sorte l'herbe des champs, qui est aujourd'hui et demain sera jetée aufour, ne fera-t-il pas bien plus pour vous, gens de peu de foi!
31 So do not worry; do not say, "What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What are we to wear?"	31 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas en disant: Qu'allons-nous manger? Qu'allons-nous boire? De quoiallons-nous nous vêtir?
32 It is the gentiles who set their hearts on al these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need themal .	32 Ce sont là toutes choses dont les païens sont en quête. Or votre Père céleste sait que vous avezbesoin de tout cela.
33 Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and al these other things wil begiven you as wel .	33 Cherchez d'abord son Royaume et sa justice, et tout cela vous sera donné par surcroît.
34 So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow wil take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of itsown.'	34 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain: demain s'inquiétera de lui-même. A chaque jour suffitsa peine.
