1 A prayer of the prophet Habakkuk; tone as for dirges.	1 Preghiera del profeta Abacuc. Come nelle lamentazioni:
2 Yahweh, I have heard of your renown; your work, Yahweh, inspires me with dread. Make it live again inour time, make it known in our time; in wrath remember mercy.	2 Jahvè, ho udito la tua notizia, ho visto, Jahvè, il tuo operato. Nel corso degli anni mostralo, nel corso degli anni fallo conoscere. Anche nell’ira, ricordati della misericordia.
3 Eloah comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Pause His majesty covers theheavens, and his glory fills the earth.	3 Dio avanza da Teman, il Santo dal monte Paran: la sua maestà vela il cielo e la sua lode riempie la terra.
4 His brightness is like the day, rays flash from his hands, that is where his power lies hidden.	4 Un fulgore come quello del sole è sotto di lui, ha raggi al suo fianco: là era il velo della sua potenza;
5 Pestilence goes before him and Plague follows close behind.	5 davanti a lui cammina la peste, l’epidemia lo segue.
6 When he stands up, he makes the earth tremble, with his glance he makes the nations quake. And theeternal mountains are dislodged, the everlasting hil s sink down, his pathway from of old.	6 Si è presentato e ha fatto vacillare la terra: ha gettato uno sguardo e ha fatto tremar le genti: sono esplosi i monti eterni, si sono accasciati i colli antichi. Le sue vie sono antiche.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in trouble, the tent-curtains of Midian shuddering.	7 Sotto la sciagura vidi... Le tende di Chushan si agitano, i padiglioni della terra di Madian.
8 Yahweh, are you enraged with the rivers, are you angry with the sea, that you should mount yourchargers, your rescuing chariots?	8 Forse contro i fiumi divampa, o Jahvè, forse contro i fiumi la tua ira, o contro il mare il tuo sdegno, quando tu cavalchi sui tuoi cavalli i tuoi cocchi vittoriosi?
9 You uncover your bow, and give the string its fill of arrows. PauseYou drench the soil with torrents;	9 Hai tratto fuori pronto il tuo arco, hai riempito di dardi la tua faretra, dividi la terra in fiumi:
10 the mountains see you and tremble, great floods sweep by, the abyss roars aloud, lifting high itswaves.	10 vedendoti sussultano i monti. Si rovesciò uno scroscio d’acqua, l’oceano fece sentire il suo mugghio,
11 Sun and moon stay inside their dwel ings, they flee at the light of your arrows, at the flash of yourlightning-spear.	11 lo splendore del suo tragitto dimenticò il sole la luna si arrestò nella sua alta dimora; alla luce delle tue saette se ne vanno, allo splendore della tua asta lampeggiante.
12 In rage you stride across the land, in anger you trample the nations.	12 Sdegnato cammini sulla terra, adirato calpesti le genti.
13 You marched to save your people, to save your anointed one; you wounded the head of the house ofthe wicked, laid bare the foundation to the rock. Pause	13 Sei uscito per salvare il tuo popolo, per portare alla vittoria il tuo unto. Hai abbattuto la cima della casa dell’empio, ne hai scalzato il fondamento fino al collo.
14 With your shafts you pierced the leader of his warriors who stormed out with shouts of joy to scatterus, as if they meant to devour some poor wretch in their lair.	14 Hai trafitto con un dardo la sua testa, i suoi capi si sono dileguati. Era la loro gioia rovinarmi insidiosamente, divorare il misero di nascosto.
15 With your horses you trampled through the sea, through the surging abyss!	15 Hai calcato giù nel mare i suoi cavalli, nella melma di acque abbondanti.
16 When I heard, I trembled to the core, my lips quivered at the sound; my bones became disjointed andmy legs gave way beneath me. Calmly I await the day of anguish which is dawning on the people now attackingus.	16 L’ho udito e ne rabbrividì il mio seno, a quella nuova fremettero le mie labbra: un tarlo mi è venuto nelle ossa, sotto di me tremarono i miei passi. Resterò tranquillo in attesa che il giorno dell’angustia venga per il popolo che ci assale.
17 (For the fig tree is not to blossom, nor wil the vines bear fruit, the olive crop wil disappoint and thefields wil yield no food; the sheep wil vanish from the fold; no cattle in the stal s.)	17 Poiché il fico non germoglia, non c’è prodotto nelle vigne; fallisce il lavoro dell’olivo e il campo non fa da mangiare; sparisce il bestiame minuto dall’ovile e non ci sono tori nelle stalle.
18 But I shal rejoice in Yahweh, I shall exult in God my Saviour.	18 Anch’io giubilerò in Jahvè, esulterò in Dio mio salvatore.
19 Yahweh my Lord is my strength, he wil make my feet as light as a doe's, and set my steps on theheights. For the choirmaster; on stringed instruments.	19 Jahvè il Signore è la mia forza; egli fa i miei piedi come quelli delle cerve e mi fa camminare sulle mie alture. Al capocoro. Con strumenti a corda.
