Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:1 The Lord also spoke to Moses saying:
'Speak to Aaron and his sons. They must be consecrated by the holy offerings of the Israelites andmust not profane my holy name; for my sake they must sanctify it; I am Yahweh.2 Speak to Aaron and to his sons, so that they may be careful of those things which have been consecrated for the sons of Israel, and so that they may not contaminate the name of the things sanctified to me, which they offer. I am the Lord.
Say to them: "Any one of your descendants, for al time, who in a state of uncleanness approaches theholy offerings consecrated to Yahweh by the Israelites, wil be outlawed from my presence. I am Yahweh.3 Say to them and to their posterity: Every man of your stock, who approaches toward those things which have been consecrated, and which the sons of Israel have brought forward to the Lord, in whom there is uncleanness, shall perish before the Lord. I am the Lord.
"Anyone of Aaron's line who is afflicted with a contagious skin-disease or a discharge will not eat holythings until he is clean. Anyone who touches anything made unclean by a dead body, or who has a seminaldischarge,4 The man of the offspring of Aaron, who is a leper or who is suffering a flow of seed, shall not eat of those things which have been sanctified to me, until he is healed. Whoever will have touched what is unclean because of the dead, and he whose seed goes out from him, as if from sexual intercourse,
or who is made unclean by touching any kind of reptile or any one who has contaminated him with hisown uncleanness, be it what it may,5 and whoever has touched a creeping thing, or any kind of unclean thing, the touching of which is filthy,
in short, anyone who has had any such contact wil be unclean until evening, and must not eat holythings until he has washed his body.6 shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat those things which have been sanctified. But when he has washed his flesh with water,
At sunset he wil be clean and may then eat holy things, for these are his food.7 and the sun has set, then, having been purified, he shall eat from what has been sanctified, because it is his food.
"He must not eat an animal that has died a natural death or been savaged; he would contractuncleanness from it. I am Yahweh.8 Whatever dies on its own, and whatever has been seized by a wild beast, they shall not eat, nor shall they be polluted by these. I am the Lord.
"They must keep my rules and not burden themselves with sin. If they profane them, they will incurdeath; I, Yahweh, have sanctified them.9 Let them observe my precepts, so that they may not fall under sin, and die in the Sanctuary, when they will have defiled it. I am the Lord, who sanctifies them.
"No lay person may eat anything holy; no guest or employee of a priest may eat anything holy.10 No foreigner shall eat from what has been sanctified; a guest of the priests and a hired servant shall not eat from them.
But if the priest has acquired a slave by purchase, the slave may eat it like anyone born in hishousehold; they will share his food.11 But whomever the priest has bought, and whoever has been born into his house, these shall eat from them.
"If a priest's daughter marries a layman, she will have no share in the holy things set aside,12 If the daughter of a priest has been married to any of the people, she shall not eat from what has been sanctified, nor from the first-fruits.
but if she is widowed or divorced and, being childless, has had to return to her father's house aswhen she was young, she may share her father's food. No lay person may share it;13 But if she is a widow or divorced, and, being without children, she returns to her father’s house, she shall be nourished by her father’s foods, just as she was accustomed to do as a girl. No foreigner shall have the authority to eat from them.
anyone who does eat a holy thing by inadvertence, wil restore it to the priest with one-fifth added.14 Whoever, through ignorance, eats from what has been sanctified shall add a fifth part to that which he ate, and he shall give it to the priest at the Sanctuary.
"They may not profane the holy offerings which the Israelites have set aside for Yahweh.15 And they shall not contaminate what has been sanctified from the sons of Israel, which they offer to the Lord,
By eating these, they would burden them with guilt requiring a sacrifice of reparation; for I, Yahweh, have sanctified these offerings." '16 lest perhaps they may suffer the iniquity of their offense, when they will have eaten what has been sanctified. I am the Lord, who sanctifies them.
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:17 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
'Speak to Aaron, to his sons, and to al the Israelites and say: "Any member of the House of Israel orany alien resident in Israel who brings an offering either in payment of a vow or as a voluntary gift, and offers itas a burnt offering to Yahweh,18 Speak to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: The man from the house of Israel, or from the newcomers who live with you, who would bring forward his oblation, either fulfilling his vows or offering spontaneously, whatever he brings forward as a holocaust for the Lord,
must, if he is to be acceptable, offer an unblemished male, be it bul or sheep or goat.19 in order to be offered through you, shall offer an immaculate male from the oxen, or from the sheep, or from the goats.
You wil not offer anything with a blemish, for it would not make you acceptable.20 If it has a blemish, you shall not offer it, and it shall not be acceptable.
"If anyone offers Yahweh a communion sacrifice, either to fulfil a vow or as a voluntary offering, theanimal, be it from the herd or flock, must be perfect, if he is to be acceptable; it must be unblemished.21 The man who will have offered a victim of peace offerings to the Lord, either fulfilling his vows or offering spontaneously, whether of oxen, or of sheep, shall offer what is immaculate, so that it may be acceptable. There shall be no blemish in it.
You wil not offer Yahweh any animal which is blind, lame, mutilated, ulcerous, scabby or covered insores. No part of such an animal wil be offered on the altar as food burnt for Yahweh.22 If it is blind, or if it is broken, or if it has a scar, or if it is has a boil, or a skin disease or infection, you shall not offer these to the Lord, nor shall you burn any of these upon the altar of the Lord.
As a voluntary offering, you may offer a bul or a lamb that is underdeveloped or deformed; but suchwil not be acceptable in payment of a vow.23 An ox or a sheep, having an amputated ear or tail, you are able to offer voluntarily, but a vow is not able to be fulfilled by these.
You wil not offer Yahweh an animal if its testicles have been bruised, crushed, torn or cut off. Youmay not do that in your country,24 You shall not offer to the Lord any animal which has the testicles bruised, or crushed, or cut and taken away, and you shall not cause any of these things in your land.
and you may not accept any such from the hands of a stranger, to be offered as food for your God.Their deformity is a blemish, and they would not make you acceptable." '25 From the hand of a foreigner, you shall not offer bread to your God, nor anything else that he would choose to give; for all this has been corrupted and blemished. You shall not accept them.
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:26 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
'A calf, lamb, or kid will stay with its dam for seven days after being born. From the eighth dayonwards, it wil be acceptable as food burnt for Yahweh.27 An ox, a sheep, or a goat, when they have been born, shall be under the udder of their mother for seven days. But on the eighth day and thereafter, they are able to be offered to the Lord.
But no animal, whether cow or ewe, wil be slaughtered on the same day as its young.28 Whether it is an ox, or a sheep, they shall not be immolated on the same day with their newborns.
'If you offer Yahweh a sacrifice with praise, do it in the acceptable manner;29 If you immolate a victim as an act of thanksgiving to the Lord, so that he may be pleased,
it must be eaten the same day; you wil leave nothing over til next morning. I am Yahweh.30 you shall eat it on the same day; none of it shall remain until morning on the next day. I am the Lord.
'You wil keep my commands and put them into practice. I am Yahweh.31 Observe my commandments, and do them. I am the Lord.
You wil not profane my holy name -- so that I may be honoured as holy among the Israelites, I,Yahweh, who make you holy,32 Do not pollute my holy name, so that I may be sanctified in the midst of the sons of Israel. I am the Lord, who sanctifies you,
I who brought you out of Egypt, to be your God, I, Yahweh.'33 and who led you away from the land of Egypt, so that I may be to you as God. I am the Lord.
