1 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; on the inhabitants of a country in shadowdark as death light has blazed forth.	1 Primamente fu meno afflitta la terra di Zàbulon, e la terra di Nephthali, e dipoi fu gravemente percossa la via al mare, la Galilea delle nazioni di là dal Giordano.
2 You have enlarged the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice atharvest time, as they exult when they are dividing the spoils.	2 Il popolo, che camminava tralle tenebre, vide una gran luce: la luce si levò per quegli, che abitavano nella oscura region di morte.
3 For the yoke that weighed on it, the bar across its shoulders, the rod of its oppressor, these you havebroken as on the day of Midian.	3 Tu hai innalzata la nazione, ma non hai accresciuta la letizia. Si allegreranno dinanzi a te come quegli, che si rallegrano della messe, come esultano i vincitori fatti padroni della preda, allorché dividon le spoglie.
4 For al the footgear clanking over the ground and al the clothing rolled in blood, wil be burnt, wil be foodfor the flames.	4 Imperocché il giogo oneroso di lui, e la verga infesta a' suoi omeri, e il bastone del suo esattore tu gli superasti, come nella giornata di Madian.
5 For a son has been born for us, a son has been given to us, and dominion has been laid on hisshoulders; and this is the name he has been given, 'Wonder-Counsel or, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince-of-Peace'	5 Perocché ogni violenta depredazione (sarà) con tumulto: e le vesti intrise di sangue saranno arse, fatte cibo del fuoco.
6 to extend his dominion in boundless peace, over the throne of David and over his kingdom to make itsecure and sustain it in fair judgement and integrity. From this time onwards and for ever, the jealous love ofYahweh Sabaoth wil do this.	6 Conciossiachè un pargoletto è nato a noi, e il figlio è dato a noi, ed ha sopra gli omeri suoi il principato, ed ei si chiamerà per nome l'Ammirabile, il Consigliere, Dio, il Forte, il Padre del secolo futuro, il Principe di pace.
7 The Lord has launched a word at Jacob and it has fal en on Israel;	7 L'impero di lui sarà amplificato, e la pace non avrà fine: ei sederà sul trono di David, e avrà il regno di lui, per assodarlo, e corroborarlo rendendo ragione, e facendo giustizia da ora in poi, e sino in sempiterno. Lo zelo del Signor degli eserciti farà tal cosa.
8 and the people will al soon know it, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in the pride of theirarrogant hearts,	8 Il Signore ha lanciata una parola contro Giacobbe, ed ella è caduta sopra Israele.
9 'The bricks have fal en down but we shal rebuild with dressed stone; the sycamores have been fel edbut we shal replace them with cedars.'	9 E se ne avvedrà tutto il popolo di Ephraim, e gli abitatori della Samaria, i quali superbi, e gonfi di cuore, dicono:
10 But, against them, Yahweh has raised their foe Razon, he has whipped up their enemies,	10 Son rovinati i mattoni, ma noi farem le fabbriche di pietra quadra: han tagliati i sicomori, ma noi metteremo in quella vece de' cedri.
11 Aram to the east, Philistines to the west, to devour Israel with gaping jaws. After al this, his anger is notspent. No, his hand is still raised!	11 Ma il Signore farà superiori a Rasin i nemici di lui, e riunirà in folla i nemici contro Ephraim:
12 But the people would not come back to him who struck them, they would not seek out YahwehSabaoth;	12 La Siria dall'oriente, e i Filistei dall'occidente, e divoreranno a piene ganasce Israele: per tutto questo il furore di lui non dà indietro, ma stesa è tuttor la sua mano;
13 hence Yahweh has topped and tailed Israel, cutting off palm and reed in a single day.	13 Perocché il mio popolo non si è rivolto a lui, che lo percuote, e non ha cercato il Signore degli eserciti:
14 (The 'top' is the elder and the man of rank; the 'tail' is the prophet teaching lies.)	14 E il Signore dispergerà d'Israele in un sol giorno il capo, e la coda; que' che stanno a capo basso, e quelli, che li governano.
15 This people's leaders have led them astray, and those who are led by them are swal owed up.	15 L'uomo di età, e rispettabile è il capo; il profeta, che spaccia bugie, è la coda.
16 Hence the Lord wil no longer take delight in their young people, or pity on their orphans and widows,since al of them are godless and evil, and everything they say is madness. After al this, his anger is not spent.No, his hand is still raised!	16 E que', che beato chiamano questo popolo, seducendolo; e que', che son detti beati, anderanno in perdizione:
17 Yes, wickedness has been burning like a fire, devouring bramble and thorn-bush, setting the forestthickets ablaze -- up they go in bil owing smoke!	17 Per questo il Signore non avrà tenerezza pe' giovanetti di esso popolo, né avrà compassione de' pupilli, né delle vedove di lui; perchè egli è tutto quanto ipocrita, e malvagio: e tutte quante le bocche parlano stoltezza. Per tutte queste cose il furore di lui non dà indietro: ma stesa è tuttora la sua mano.
18 The country has been set on fire by the fury of Yahweh Sabaoth, and the people are like food for theflames. No one spares a thought for his brother.	18 Imperocché l'empietà si è accesa qual fuoco, che divora gli sterpi, e le spine, e prende rigoglio nel più folto della boscaglia, e si alza in globi un fumo superbo.
19 They have sliced to the right and are stil hungry, they have eaten to the left and are not satisfied; eachdevours the flesh of his own arm.	19 Pell'ira del Signor degli eserciti è in turbamento la terra, e il popolo sarà quasi esca del fuoco; l'uomo non la perdonerà al proprio fratello.
20 Manasseh devours Ephraim, Ephraim Manasseh, together they turn against Judah. After al this, hisanger is not spent. No, his hand is still raised!	20 E si volterà a destra, e avrà ancor fame, e mangerà a sinistra, e neppure sarà satollo: divorerà ognuno la carne dello stesso suo braccio. Manasse (divorerà) Ephraim, ed Ephraim Manasse: questi poi uniti contro di Giuda.
	21 Per tutte queste cose il furore di lui non dà indietro; ma stesa è tuttor la sua mano.
