Isaiah 41

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Coasts and islands, fal silent before me, and let the peoples renew their strength, let them comeforward and speak; let us assemble for judgement.	1 Isole, ascoltatemi in silenzio! I popoli riacquistino forza, s'avanzino e parlino, aduniamoci insieme a giudizio!
2 'Who has raised from the east him whom saving justice summons in its train, him to whom Yahwehdelivers up the nations and subjects kings, him who reduces them to dust with his sword, and to driven stubblewith his bow,	2 "Chi ha suscitato dall'Oriente colui che chiama la vittoria ad ogni passo? Chi davanti a lui pone le nazioni e sottomette i re? La sua spada li riduce in polvere e il suo arco li disperde come stoppia.
3 him who pursues them and advances unhindered, his feet scarcely touching the road?	3 Li insegue, s'avanza con sicurezza, sfiorando appena la strada con i suoi piedi.
4 Who has acted thus, who has done this? He who cal s each generation from the beginning: I, Yahweh,who am the first and til the last I shal still be there.'	4 Chi ha operato e compiuto ciò? Colui che dall'inizio chiama le generazioni. Io, il Signore, sono il primo e sarò ugualmente con gli ultimi!".
5 The coasts and islands have seen and taken fright, the remotest parts of earth are trembling: they areapproaching, they are here!	5 Le isole lo vedono e sono prese da timore, tremano le estremità della terra, si avvicinano, arrivano.
6 People help one another, they say to each other, 'Take heart!'	6 Ognuno aiuta il suo compagno e dice all'altro: "Coraggio!".
7 The woodworker encourages the smelter, the polisher encourages the hammerer, saying of thesoldering, 'It is sound'; and he fastens it with nails to keep it steady.	7 L'artigiano incoraggia l'orafo, chi leviga con il martello incoraggia chi batte l'incudine dicendo della saldatura: "Va bene", e la rinforza con chiodi, perché non si muova.
8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham my friend,	8 Ma tu, Israele, mio servo! Giacobbe, che ho scelto, discendenza di Abramo, mio amico,
9 whom I have taken to myself, from the remotest parts of the earth and summoned from countries faraway, to whom I have said, 'You are my servant, I have chosen you, I have not rejected you,'	9 ti ho preso dall'estremità della terra, e ti ho chiamato dai suoi confini e ti dissi: "Tu sei il mio servo, ti ho scelto, non ti ho rigettato".
10 do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly Ihelp you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand.	10 Non temere, poiché io sono con te, non smarrirti, perché io sono il tuo Dio, ti do vigore, ti aiuto, ti sostengo con la mia destra vittoriosa.
11 Look, al those who rage against you wil be put to shame and humiliated; those who picked quarrelswith you will be reduced to nothing and wil perish.	11 Ecco, saranno coperti di vergogna e confusione tutti quelli che infuriarono contro di te; saranno ridotti a un nulla e periranno gli uomini che ti contrastavano.
12 You wil look for them but wil not find them, those who used to fight you; they wil be destroyed andbrought to nothing, those who made war on you.	12 Tu li ricercherai, ma non troverai gli uomini che ti muovevano guerra.
13 For I, Yahweh, your God, I grasp you by your right hand; I tel you, 'Do not be afraid, I shal help you.'	13 Sì, io sono il Signore, tuo Dio, che ti prende per la destra, che ti dice: "Non temere, io ti vengo in aiuto".
14 Do not be afraid, Jacob, you worm! You little handful of Israel! I shall help you, declares Yahweh; yourredeemer is the Holy One of Israel.	14 Non temere, verme di Giacobbe, larva di Israele! Io ti aiuto, oracolo del Signore: il tuo redentore è il Santo d'Israele.
15 Look, I am making you into a threshing-sledge, new, with double teeth; you wil thresh and beat themountains to dust and reduce the hills to straw.	15 Ecco, ho fatto di te una trebbia nuova, munita di doppi denti; tu trebbierai i monti, li stritolerai e renderai le colline come la pula.
16 You wil winnow them and the wind wil carry them off, the gale will scatter them; whereas you wilrejoice in Yahweh, will glory in the Holy One of Israel.	16 Li ventilerai, il vento li porterà via e l'uragano li disperderà; tu invece ti rallegrerai nel Signore, ti glorierai nel Santo d'Israele.
17 The oppressed and needy search for water, and there is none, their tongue is parched with thirst. I,Yahweh, shal answer them, I, the God of Israel, shal not abandon them.	17 I miseri e i poveri cercano acqua e non c'è; la loro lingua è inaridita per la sete. Io, il Signore, li esaudirò, io, Dio d'Israele, non li abbandonerò.
18 I shal open up rivers on barren heights and water-holes down in the ravines; I shall turn the desertinto a lake and dry ground into springs of water.	18 Sui colli brulli farò scaturire torrenti e sorgenti in mezzo alle valli. Renderò il deserto un lago d'acqua e la terra arida una fontana.
19 I shal plant the desert with cedar trees, acacias, myrtles and olives; in the wastelands I shal putcypress trees, plane trees and box trees side by side;	19 Nel deserto pianterò il cedro, l'acacia, il mirto e l'olivo; nella steppa metterò il cipresso, l'olmo e l'abete.
20 so that people may see and know, so that they may all observe and understand that the hand ofYahweh has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.	20 Perché vedano e riconoscano, facciano attenzione e comprendano tutti che la mano del Signore ha compiuto questo e il Santo d'Israele l'ha creato.
21 'Present your case,' says Yahweh, 'Produce your arguments,' says Jacob's king.	21 "Presentate la vostra difesa, dice il Signore, adducete i vostri argomenti, dice il re di Giacobbe.
22 'Let them produce and reveal to us what is going to happen. What happened in the past? Reveal it sothat we can consider it and know what the outcome wil be. Or tel us about the future,	22 S'avanzino e annunzino quello che accadrà! Le cose antiche, quali erano? Annunciatele e noi presteremo attenzione. Oppure fateci udire le cose future, perché ne conosciamo il compimento.
23 reveal what is to happen next, and then we shal know that you are gods. At least, do something, be itgood or bad, so that we may feel alarm and fear.	23 Annunciate ciò che avverrà in avvenire e noi sapremo che siete dèi. Sì, fate del bene o del male e noi lo esamineremo e stupiremo insieme.
24 Look, you are less than nothingness, and what you do is less than nothing; to choose you is anoutrage.'	24 Ecco, voi siete un nulla e la vostra opera è niente; è in abominazione chi vi sceglie".
25 I have raised him from the north and he has come, from the east he has been summoned by name.He tramples on rulers like mud, like a potter treading clay.	25 Ho suscitato dal nord ed è venuto, dal sol levante l'ho chiamato per nome. Calpesterà i prìncipi come creta e come il vasaio calca l'argilla.
26 Who revealed this from the beginning for us to know, and in the past for us to say, 'That is right'? Noone in fact revealed it, no one proclaimed it, no one has heard you speak.	26 Chi l'ha annunciato dall'inizio perché noi lo sapessimo, da molto tempo, perché potessimo dire: "E' giusto"? Ma non c'è nessuno che abbia annunciato, nessuno che abbia fatto intendere; nessuno che abbia udito le vostre parole!
27 First-fruits of Zion, look, here they come! I send a messenger to Jerusalem,	27 Io per primo l'ho annunciato a Sion e a Gerusalemme ho dato un messaggero!
28 and I look -- no one, not a single counsel or among them who, if I asked, could give an answer.	28 Guardai, non c'era nessuno! Tra essi nessuno che sapesse dare un consiglio, che potessi interrogare e avere una risposta.
29 Taken altogether they are nothingness, what they do is nothing, their statues, wind and emptiness.	29 Ecco, tutti sono un nulla, un niente le loro opere, vento e vuoto i loro simulacri.
