Isaiah 41

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Coasts and islands, fal silent before me, and let the peoples renew their strength, let them comeforward and speak; let us assemble for judgement.	1 Iles, faites silence pour m'écouter, que les peuples renouvellent leurs forces, qu'ils s'avancent et qu'ilsparlent, ensemble comparaissons au jugement.
2 'Who has raised from the east him whom saving justice summons in its train, him to whom Yahwehdelivers up the nations and subjects kings, him who reduces them to dust with his sword, and to driven stubblewith his bow,	2 Qui a suscité de l'Orient celui que la justice appelle à sa suite, auquel Il livre les nations, et assujettitles rois? Son épée les réduit en poussière et son arc en fait une paille qui s'envole.
3 him who pursues them and advances unhindered, his feet scarcely touching the road?	3 Il les chasse et passe en sécurité par un chemin que ses pieds ne font qu'effleurer.
4 Who has acted thus, who has done this? He who cal s each generation from the beginning: I, Yahweh,who am the first and til the last I shal still be there.'	4 Qui a agi et accompli? Celui qui dès le commencement appelle les générations; moi, Yahvé, je suis lepremier, et avec les derniers je serai encore.
5 The coasts and islands have seen and taken fright, the remotest parts of earth are trembling: they areapproaching, they are here!	5 Les îles ont vu et prennent peur, les extrémités de la terre frémissent, ils sont tout près, ils arrivent.
6 People help one another, they say to each other, 'Take heart!'	6 Chacun aide son compagnon, il dit à l'autre: "Courage!"
7 The woodworker encourages the smelter, the polisher encourages the hammerer, saying of thesoldering, 'It is sound'; and he fastens it with nails to keep it steady.	7 L'artisan donne courage à l'orfèvre, et celui qui polit au marteau à celui qui bat l'enclume: il dit de lasoudure: "Elle est bonne", il la renforce avec des clous pour qu'elle ne vacille pas.
8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham my friend,	8 Et toi, Israël, mon serviteur, Jacob, que j'ai choisi, race d'Abraham, mon ami,
9 whom I have taken to myself, from the remotest parts of the earth and summoned from countries faraway, to whom I have said, 'You are my servant, I have chosen you, I have not rejected you,'	9 toi que j'ai saisi aux extrémités de la terre, que j'ai appelé des contrées lointaines, je t'ai dit: "Tu esmon serviteur, je t'ai choisi, je ne t'ai pas rejeté."
10 do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly Ihelp you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand.	10 Ne crains pas car je suis avec toi, ne te laisse pas émouvoir car je suis ton Dieu; je t'ai fortifié et jet'ai aidé, je t'ai soutenu de ma droite justicière.
11 Look, al those who rage against you wil be put to shame and humiliated; those who picked quarrelswith you will be reduced to nothing and wil perish.	11 Voici qu'ils seront honteux et humiliés, tous ceux qui s'enflammaient contre toi. Ils seront réduits àrien et périront, ceux qui te cherchaient querelle.
12 You wil look for them but wil not find them, those who used to fight you; they wil be destroyed andbrought to nothing, those who made war on you.	12 Tu les chercheras et tu ne les trouveras pas, ceux qui te combattaient; ils seront réduits à rien,anéantis, ceux qui te faisaient la guerre.
13 For I, Yahweh, your God, I grasp you by your right hand; I tel you, 'Do not be afraid, I shal help you.'	13 Car moi, Yahvé, ton Dieu, je te saisis la main droite, je te dis: "Ne crains pas, c'est moi qui te viensen aide."
14 Do not be afraid, Jacob, you worm! You little handful of Israel! I shall help you, declares Yahweh; yourredeemer is the Holy One of Israel.	14 Ne crains pas, vermisseau de Jacob, et vous, pauvres gens d'Israël. C'est moi qui te viens en aide,oracle de Yahvé, celui qui te rachète, c'est le Saint d'Israël.
15 Look, I am making you into a threshing-sledge, new, with double teeth; you wil thresh and beat themountains to dust and reduce the hills to straw.	15 Voici que j'ai fait de toi un traîneau à battre, tout neuf, à doubles dents. Tu écraseras les montagnes,tu les pulvériseras, les collines, tu en feras de la paille.
16 You wil winnow them and the wind wil carry them off, the gale will scatter them; whereas you wilrejoice in Yahweh, will glory in the Holy One of Israel.	16 Tu les vanneras, le vent les emportera et l'ouragan les dispersera; pour toi, tu te réjouiras en Yahvé,tu te glorifieras dans le Saint d'Israël.
17 The oppressed and needy search for water, and there is none, their tongue is parched with thirst. I,Yahweh, shal answer them, I, the God of Israel, shal not abandon them.	17 Les miséreux et les pauvres cherchent de l'eau, et rien! Leur langue est desséchée par la soif. Moi,Yahvé, je les exaucerai, Dieu d'Israël, je ne les abandonnerai pas.
18 I shal open up rivers on barren heights and water-holes down in the ravines; I shall turn the desertinto a lake and dry ground into springs of water.	18 Sur les monts chauves je ferai jaillir des fleuves, et des sources au milieu des vallées. Je ferai dudésert un marécage et de la terre aride des eaux jaillissantes.
19 I shal plant the desert with cedar trees, acacias, myrtles and olives; in the wastelands I shal putcypress trees, plane trees and box trees side by side;	19 Je mettrai dans le désert le cèdre, l'acacia, le myrte et l'olivier, je placerai dans la steppe pêle-mêle lecyprès, le platane et le buis,
20 so that people may see and know, so that they may all observe and understand that the hand ofYahweh has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.	20 afin que l'on voie et que l'on sache, que l'on fasse attention et que l'on comprenne que la main deYahvé a fait cela, que le Saint d'Israël l'a créé.
21 'Present your case,' says Yahweh, 'Produce your arguments,' says Jacob's king.	21 Présentez votre querelle, dit Yahvé, produisez vos arguments, dit le roi de Jacob.
22 'Let them produce and reveal to us what is going to happen. What happened in the past? Reveal it sothat we can consider it and know what the outcome wil be. Or tel us about the future,	22 Qu'ils produisent et qu'ils nous montrent les choses qui doivent arriver. Les choses passées, quefurent-elles? Montrez-le, que nous y réfléchissions et que nous en connaissions la suite. Ou bien faites-nousentendre les choses à venir,
23 reveal what is to happen next, and then we shal know that you are gods. At least, do something, be itgood or bad, so that we may feel alarm and fear.	23 annoncez ce qui doit venir ensuite, et nous saurons que vous êtes des dieux. Au moins, faites bien oufaites mal, que nous éprouvions de l'émoi et de la crainte.
24 Look, you are less than nothingness, and what you do is less than nothing; to choose you is anoutrage.'	24 Voici, vous êtes moins que rien, et votre oeuvre, c'est moins que néant, vous choisir est abominable.
25 I have raised him from the north and he has come, from the east he has been summoned by name.He tramples on rulers like mud, like a potter treading clay.	25 Je l'ai suscité du Nord et il est venu, depuis le Levant il est appelé par son nom. Il piétine lesgouverneurs comme de la boue, comme le potier pétrit l'argile.
26 Who revealed this from the beginning for us to know, and in the past for us to say, 'That is right'? Noone in fact revealed it, no one proclaimed it, no one has heard you speak.	26 Qui l'a annoncé dès le principe, pour que nous sachions, et dans le passé, pour que nous disions:C'est juste? Mais nul n'a annoncé, nul n'a fait entendre, nul n'a entendu vos paroles.
27 First-fruits of Zion, look, here they come! I send a messenger to Jerusalem,	27 Prémices de Sion, voici, les voici, à Jérusalem j'envoie un messager,
28 and I look -- no one, not a single counsel or among them who, if I asked, could give an answer.	28 et je regarde: personne! Parmi eux, pas un qui donne un avis, que je puisse interroger et qui réponde!
29 Taken altogether they are nothingness, what they do is nothing, their statues, wind and emptiness.	29 Voici, tous ensemble ils ne sont rien, néant que leurs oeuvres, du vent et du vide leurs statues!
