Isaiah 41

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Coasts and islands, fal silent before me, and let the peoples renew their strength, let them comeforward and speak; let us assemble for judgement.	1 Ascoltatemi in silenzio, isole, e le nazioni riprendano nuova forza! S’avanzino e parlino; raduniamoci insieme in giudizio.
2 'Who has raised from the east him whom saving justice summons in its train, him to whom Yahwehdelivers up the nations and subjects kings, him who reduces them to dust with his sword, and to driven stubblewith his bow,	2 Chi ha suscitato dall’oriente colui che la giustizia chiama sui suoi passi? Chi gli ha consegnato le nazioni e assoggettato i re? La sua spada li riduce in polvere e il suo arco come paglia dispersa dal vento.
3 him who pursues them and advances unhindered, his feet scarcely touching the road?	3 Li insegue e passa oltre, sicuro; sfiora appena la strada con i piedi.
4 Who has acted thus, who has done this? He who cal s each generation from the beginning: I, Yahweh,who am the first and til the last I shal still be there.'	4 Chi ha operato e realizzato questo, chiamando le generazioni fin dal principio? Io, il Signore, sono il primo e io stesso sono con gli ultimi.
5 The coasts and islands have seen and taken fright, the remotest parts of earth are trembling: they areapproaching, they are here!	5 Le isole vedono e ne hanno timore; tremano le estremità della terra, insieme si avvicinano e vengono.
6 People help one another, they say to each other, 'Take heart!'	6 Si aiutano l’un l’altro; uno dice al compagno: «Coraggio!».
7 The woodworker encourages the smelter, the polisher encourages the hammerer, saying of thesoldering, 'It is sound'; and he fastens it with nails to keep it steady.	7 Il fabbro incoraggia l’orafo; chi leviga con il martello incoraggia chi batte l’incudine, dicendo della saldatura: «Va bene», e fissa l’idolo con chiodi perché non si muova.
8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham my friend,	8 Ma tu, Israele, mio servo, tu Giacobbe, che ho scelto, discendente di Abramo, mio amico,
9 whom I have taken to myself, from the remotest parts of the earth and summoned from countries faraway, to whom I have said, 'You are my servant, I have chosen you, I have not rejected you,'	9 sei tu che io ho preso dall’estremità della terra e ho chiamato dalle regioni più lontane e ti ho detto: «Mio servo tu sei, ti ho scelto, non ti ho rigettato».
10 do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly Ihelp you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand.	10 Non temere, perché io sono con te; non smarrirti, perché io sono il tuo Dio. Ti rendo forte e ti vengo in aiuto e ti sostengo con la destra della mia giustizia.
11 Look, al those who rage against you wil be put to shame and humiliated; those who picked quarrelswith you will be reduced to nothing and wil perish.	11 Ecco, saranno svergognati e confusi quanti s’infuriavano contro di te; saranno ridotti a nulla e periranno gli uomini che si opponevano a te.
12 You wil look for them but wil not find them, those who used to fight you; they wil be destroyed andbrought to nothing, those who made war on you.	12 Li cercherai, ma non troverai coloro che litigavano con te; saranno ridotti a nulla, a zero, coloro che ti muovevano guerra.
13 For I, Yahweh, your God, I grasp you by your right hand; I tel you, 'Do not be afraid, I shal help you.'	13 Poiché io sono il Signore, tuo Dio, che ti tengo per la destra e ti dico: «Non temere, io ti vengo in aiuto».
14 Do not be afraid, Jacob, you worm! You little handful of Israel! I shall help you, declares Yahweh; yourredeemer is the Holy One of Israel.	14 Non temere, vermiciattolo di Giacobbe, larva d’Israele; io vengo in tuo aiuto – oracolo del Signore –, tuo redentore è il Santo d’Israele.
15 Look, I am making you into a threshing-sledge, new, with double teeth; you wil thresh and beat themountains to dust and reduce the hills to straw.	15 Ecco, ti rendo come una trebbia acuminata, nuova, munita di molte punte; tu trebbierai i monti e li stritolerai, ridurrai i colli in pula.
16 You wil winnow them and the wind wil carry them off, the gale will scatter them; whereas you wilrejoice in Yahweh, will glory in the Holy One of Israel.	16 Li vaglierai e il vento li porterà via, il turbine li disperderà. Tu, invece, gioirai nel Signore, ti vanterai del Santo d’Israele.
17 The oppressed and needy search for water, and there is none, their tongue is parched with thirst. I,Yahweh, shal answer them, I, the God of Israel, shal not abandon them.	17 I miseri e i poveri cercano acqua, ma non c’è; la loro lingua è riarsa per la sete. Io, il Signore, risponderò loro, io, Dio d’Israele, non li abbandonerò.
18 I shal open up rivers on barren heights and water-holes down in the ravines; I shall turn the desertinto a lake and dry ground into springs of water.	18 Farò scaturire fiumi su brulle colline, fontane in mezzo alle valli; cambierò il deserto in un lago d’acqua, la terra arida in zona di sorgenti.
19 I shal plant the desert with cedar trees, acacias, myrtles and olives; in the wastelands I shal putcypress trees, plane trees and box trees side by side;	19 Nel deserto pianterò cedri, acacie, mirti e ulivi; nella steppa porrò cipressi, olmi e abeti;
20 so that people may see and know, so that they may all observe and understand that the hand ofYahweh has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.	20 perché vedano e sappiano, considerino e comprendano a un tempo che questo ha fatto la mano del Signore, lo ha creato il Santo d’Israele.
21 'Present your case,' says Yahweh, 'Produce your arguments,' says Jacob's king.	21 Presentate la vostra causa, dice il Signore, portate le vostre prove, dice il re di Giacobbe.
22 'Let them produce and reveal to us what is going to happen. What happened in the past? Reveal it sothat we can consider it and know what the outcome wil be. Or tel us about the future,	22 Si facciano avanti e ci annuncino ciò che dovrà accadere. Narrate quali furono le cose passate, sicché noi possiamo riflettervi. Oppure fateci udire le cose future, così che possiamo sapere quello che verrà dopo.
23 reveal what is to happen next, and then we shal know that you are gods. At least, do something, be itgood or bad, so that we may feel alarm and fear.	23 Annunciate quanto avverrà nel futuro e noi riconosceremo che siete dèi. Sì, fate il bene oppure il male e ne stupiremo, vedendo l’uno e l’altro.
24 Look, you are less than nothingness, and what you do is less than nothing; to choose you is anoutrage.'	24 Ecco, voi siete un nulla, il vostro lavoro non vale niente, è abominevole chi vi sceglie.
25 I have raised him from the north and he has come, from the east he has been summoned by name.He tramples on rulers like mud, like a potter treading clay.	25 Io ho suscitato uno dal settentrione ed è venuto, dal luogo dove sorge il sole mi chiamerà per nome; egli calpesterà i governatori come creta, come un vasaio schiaccia l’argilla.
26 Who revealed this from the beginning for us to know, and in the past for us to say, 'That is right'? Noone in fact revealed it, no one proclaimed it, no one has heard you speak.	26 Chi lo ha predetto dal principio, perché noi lo sapessimo, chi dall’antichità, perché dicessimo: «È giusto»? Nessuno lo ha predetto, nessuno lo ha fatto sentire, nessuno ha udito le vostre parole.
27 First-fruits of Zion, look, here they come! I send a messenger to Jerusalem,	27 Per primo io l’ho annunciato a Sion, e a Gerusalemme ho inviato un messaggero di buone notizie.
28 and I look -- no one, not a single counsel or among them who, if I asked, could give an answer.	28 Guardai ma non c’era nessuno, tra costoro nessuno era capace di consigliare, nessuno da interrogare per averne una risposta.
29 Taken altogether they are nothingness, what they do is nothing, their statues, wind and emptiness.	29 Ecco, tutti costoro sono niente, nulla sono le opere loro, vento e vuoto i loro idoli.
