1 That day, this song wil be sung in Judah: 'We have a fortress city, the wal s and ramparts providesafety.	1 - In quel giorno si canterà questo cantico nella terra di Giuda. «Nostra città forte, Sion, [è] il Salvatore, si porrà in essa muro ed antemurale.
2 Open the gates! Let the upright nation come in, the nation that keeps faith!	2 Aprite le porte, entri la gente giusta, custode della verità.
3 This is the plan decreed: you wil guarantee peace, the peace entrusted to you.	3 L'antico errore è dissipato; tu manterrai la pace, la pace, perchè abbiamo sperato in te.
4 Trust in Yahweh for ever, for Yahweh is a rock for ever.	4 Avete sperato nel Signore pei secoli eterni, nel Signore Dio forte in perpetuo.
5 He has brought low the dwel ers on the heights, the lofty citadel; he lays it low, brings it to the ground,flings it down in the dust.	5 Perchè egli abbasserà quei che seggono in alto, e la città sublime umilierà.
6 It wil be trodden under foot, by the feet of the needy, the steps of the weak.'	6 La umilierà al suolo, l'abbasserà fino alla polvere.
7 The path of the Upright One is honesty; you smooth the honest way of the upright.	7 I piedi la calpesteranno, i piedi del povero, le piante dei miseri. La via del giusto è retta, retto il sentiero del giusto su cui s'incammina.
8 Fol owing the path of your judgements, Yahweh, we set our hopes in you, your name, your memory areal our soul desires.	8 Anche nella via dei tuoi giudizi, Signore, ti abbiamo aspettato: il tuo nome e il tuo ricordo sono il desiderio dell'anima.
9 At night my soul longs for you and my spirit within me seeks you out; for when your judgements appearon earth the inhabitants of the world learn what saving justice is.	9 L'anima mia ti ha desiderato nella notte, ma anche col mio spirito e col mio interno, mattiniero ti ricerco. Allorchè tu avrai eseguito i tuoi giudizi in terra, gli abitanti del mondo apprenderanno la giustizia.
10 If pity is shown to the wicked without his learning what saving justice is, he wil act wrongly in the landof right conduct and not see the majesty of Yahweh.	10 Se facciamo grazia all'empio, non apprenderà la giustizia, commetterà il male nella terra dei santi, e non vedrà la gloria del Signore».
11 Yahweh, your hand is raised but they do not see! The antagonists of your people will look and growpale; with your fiery wrath you wil devour your enemies.	11 O Signore, si alzi la tua mano e non veggano! Sì, veggano a lor confusione gli zelatori del popolo, e il fuoco divori i tuoi nemici!
12 Yahweh, you wil grant us peace, having completed al our undertakings for us.	12 O Signore, tu ci darai la pace, perchè anche tutte le opere nostre hai operato per noi.
13 Yahweh our God, other lords than you have ruled us but, loyal to you alone, we invoke your name.	13 Signore, Dio nostro, si sono di noi impossessati altri padroni fuori di te; solo mercè tua potremo ricordare il tuo nome.
14 The dead wil not come back to life, the shadows wil not rise again, for you have punished them,annihilated them, wiping out their very memory.	14 I morti non rivivano, i giganti non risorgano: per questo li visitasti e gli sterminasti e hai fatto perire del tutto la loro memoria.
15 You have made the nation larger, Yahweh, made the nation larger and won yourself glory, you haverol ed back the frontiers of the country.	15 Hai risparmiato il popolo, Signore, hai risparmiato la nazione: ma è stato forse a tua gloria? Tu hai dilatato i confini del paese.
16 Yahweh, in distress they had recourse to you, they expended themselves in prayer, since yourpunishment was on them.	16 O Signore, nell'angustia ti cercarono, il gemito della tribolazione fu scuola per essi.
17 As a pregnant woman near her time of delivery writhes and cries out in her pangs, so have we been,Yahweh, in your eyes:	17 Come una incinta quando è sopra parto, soffre e si lamenta fra i suoi dolori; tali siam noi dinanzi a te, o Signore.
18 we have been pregnant, we have writhed, but we have given birth only to wind: we have not givensalvation to the earth, no inhabitants for the world have been brought to birth.	18 Abbiamo concepito, sofferto come dolori di parto, e abbiamo partorito vento: non abbiamo portato salvezza al paese, perciò non sono nati abitatori della terra.
19 Your dead will come back to life, your corpses wil rise again. Wake up and sing, you dwel ers in thedust, for your dew wil be a radiant dew, but the earth will give birth to the shades.	19 Vivano i tuoi morti, risorgano i caduti miei; svegliatevi, intonate un cantico, voi che abitate nella polvere; perchè rugiada di luce è la tua rugiada, e la terra restituirà i giganti.
20 Go, my people, go to your private room, shut yourselves in. Hide yourselves a little while until theretribution has passed.	20 Va', popolo mio, entra nelle tue stanze e chiudi dietro a te le tue porte; nasconditi un breve momento, finchè passi lo sdegno.
21 For see, Yahweh emerges from his dwel ing to punish the inhabitants of earth for their guilt; and theearth will reveal the blood shed on it and no longer hide its slain.	21 Ecco che il Signore uscirà dal suo luogo, per visitare l'iniquità fatta a sè dall'abitatore della terra; e la terra renderà il suo sangue e non ricoprirà più i suoi uccisi.
