Sirach 50

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 It was the High Priest Simon son of Onias who repaired the Temple during his lifetime and in his day fortified the sanctuary.	1 Il sommo sacerdote Simone, figlio di Onia, durante la sua vita ha riparato la casa, nei suoi giorni ha fortificato il tempio.
2 He laid the foundations of double depth, the high buttresses of the Temple precincts.	2 Egli pose le fondamenta per il grande cortile, l'alto sostegno del recinto del tempio.
3 In his day the pool was excavated, a reservoir as huge as the sea.	3 Nei suoi giorni fu scavato il serbatoio delle acque, una fossa grande come il mare.
4 Anxious to save the people from ruin, he fortified the city against siege.	4 Egli pensava al suo popolo perché non cadesse, alle fortificazioni della città in vista dell'assedio.
5 How splendid he was with the people thronging round him, when he emerged from the curtained shrine,	5 Era splendido quando tornava dal santuario, quando usciva dalla casa del velo:
6 like the morning star among the clouds, like the moon at the ful ,	6 era come l'astro mattutino in mezzo alle nubi, come la luna piena nei giorni della festa,
7 like the sun shining on the Temple of the Most High, like the rainbow gleaming against bril iant clouds,	7 come il sole che brilla sul tempio dell'Altissimo, come l'arcobaleno che splende tra nubi luminose,
8 like a rose in springtime, like a lily by a spring, like a branch of the incense tree in summer,	8 come la rosa fiorita nella stagione dei frutti, come il giglio cresciuto dove zampilla l'acqua, come il germoglio del Libano nei giorni dell'estate;
9 like fire and incense in the censer, like a massive golden vessel encrusted with every kind of preciousstone,	9 come fuoco ed incenso nell'incensiere, come un vaso tutto martellato d'oro, adornato con ogni specie di pietre preziose,
10 like an olive tree loaded with fruit, like a cypress soaring to the clouds;	10 come fronde d'ulivo che portano frutti e come cipresso che s'innalza tra le nubi.
11 when he took his ceremonial robe and put on his magnificent ornaments, when he went up to the holyaltar and fil ed the sanctuary precincts with his grandeur;	11 Quando indossava i paramenti preziosi egli era rivestito di perfetto splendore; quando saliva presso il santo altare irradiava la gloria in tutto il santuario.
12 when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, himself standing by the altar hearth,crowned with the circle of his brothers, as a cedar of Lebanon is by its foliage, as though surrounded by thetrunks of palm trees.	12 Quando riceveva le porzioni dalle mani dei sacerdoti, mentre stava presso il focolare dell'altare, intorno a lui si formava una corona di fratelli, simile a germoglio di cedri del Libano, e lo circondavano come fossero ceppi di palme.
13 When all the sons of Aaron in their glory, with the offerings of the Lord in their hands, stood before thewhole assembly of Israel,	13 Allora tutti i figli di Aronne nella loro gloria, tenendo l'offerta del Signore nelle loro mani, stavano dinanzi a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele.
14 while he completed the rites at the altars, nobly presenting the offerings to the Almighty, Most High!	14 Per completare la celebrazione sopra l'altare e per rendere più bella l'offerta dell'Altissimo onnipotente,
15 He would reach out his hand to the cup and pour a libation of wine, pouring it at the foot of the altar, afragrance pleasing to the Most High, King of All;	15 egli stendeva la sua mano sulla coppa della libazione, faceva libazioni con il sangue dell'uva versandolo ai piedi dell'altare quale odore fragrante per l'Altissimo, re di tutto.
16 then the sons of Aaron would shout and blow their metal trumpets, making a mighty sound ring out asa reminder before the Most High;	16 A quel momento cominciavano a gridare i figli di Aronne, suonavano con le loro trombe di metallo battuto facendo sentire una grande voce come memoria dinanzi all'Altissimo.
17 and immediately the people al together would fal on their faces to the ground, in adoration of theirLord, the Almighty, God Most High,	17 Immediatamente tutto il popolo insieme cadeva con la faccia a terra per adorare il proprio Signore, Dio altissimo e onnipotente.
18 and with the cantors chanting their hymns of praise. Sweet was the melody of al these voices,	18 Allora il coro intonava il suo canto, una melodia dolce, mista al suono vigoroso,
19 as the people pleaded with the Lord Most High and prayed in the presence of the Merciful, until theservice of the Lord was completed and the ceremony at an end.	19 mentre il popolo pregava il Signore altissimo, implorando la sua misericordia, fino a quando non finiva il culto del Signore e non si completava tutto il rituale.
20 Then he would come down and raise his hands over the whole assembly of the Israelites, to give themthe Lord's blessing from his lips, being privileged to pronounce his name;	20 Allora egli, scendendo, levava le sue mani su tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele per dare con le sue labbra la benedizione del Signore, avendo il privilegio di poter pronunziare il suo nome;
21 and once again the people would bow low to receive the blessing of the Most High.	21 per la seconda volta il popolo si prostrava in adorazione per ricevere la benedizione dell'Altissimo.
22 And now bless the God of al things, the doer of great deeds everywhere, who has exalted our daysfrom the womb and has acted merciful y towards us.	22 Benedite, ora, il dio dell'universo, che fa dovunque cose grandi, che ha esaltato i nostri giorni fin dal seno materno e agisce con noi secondo la sua misericordia.
23 May he grant us cheerful hearts and bring peace in our time, in Israel for ages on ages.	23 Ci conceda la gioia del cuore e dia pace a Israele ora e per sempre.
24 May his mercy be faithfully with us, may he redeem us in our own times!	24 Voglia egli confermare con noi la sua misericordia per darci la sua redenzione nei nostri giorni.
25 There are two nations that my soul detests, the third is not a nation at al :	25 Due nazioni detesta la mia anima, e la terza non è neppure una nazione:
26 the inhabitants of Mount Seir, the Philistines, and the stupid people living at Shechem.	26 gli abitanti della montagna di Seir e della Filistea, e il popolo stolto che abita in Sichem.
27 Instruction in wisdom and knowledge is what has been written in this book by Jesus son of SiraEleazar of Jerusalem, who has poured a rain of wisdom from his heart.	27 Insegnamenti per l'intelligenza e la scienza ha condensato in questo libro Gesù, figlio di Sirach, figlio di Eleazaro, gerosolimitano, che ha effuso saggezza dal suo cuore.
28 Blessed is he who devotes his time to these and grows wise by taking them to heart!	28 Beato chi si occuperà di queste cose; ponendole nel suo cuore, diventerà saggio.
29 If he practises them he will be strong enough for anything, since the light of the Lord is his path.	29 Se le metterà in pratica, sarà forte in tutto, perché suo sentiero è il timore del Signore.
