Sirach 50

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 It was the High Priest Simon son of Onias who repaired the Temple during his lifetime and in his day fortified the sanctuary.	1 - Simone, figliuolo d'Onta, è il sommo sacerdote che durante la sua vita riparò la casa [di Dio], e a' suoi giorni restaurò il tempio.
2 He laid the foundations of double depth, the high buttresses of the Temple precincts.	2 Anche l'altezza del tempio fu fondata da lui, la doppia costruzione e le altre mura del tempio.
3 In his day the pool was excavated, a reservoir as huge as the sea.	3 A' suoi tempi scaturirono pozzi d'acqua, e furono ripieni oltremodo come un mare.
4 Anxious to save the people from ruin, he fortified the city against siege.	4 Ebbe cura del suo popolo e lo preservò dalla rovina,
5 How splendid he was with the people thronging round him, when he emerged from the curtained shrine,	5 e valse a ingrandire la città. S'acquistò gloria col trattar col popolo, e ampliò l'ingresso del tempio e dell'atrio.
6 like the morning star among the clouds, like the moon at the ful ,	6 Come la stella del mattino tra le nebbie, e come splende la luna ne' giorni ch'è piena,
7 like the sun shining on the Temple of the Most High, like the rainbow gleaming against bril iant clouds,	7 e come sole raggiante, cosi egli rifulse nel tempio di Dio:
8 like a rose in springtime, like a lily by a spring, like a branch of the incense tree in summer,	8 [apparve] come l'arcobaleno scintillante tra le nuvole luminose, e come il fior della rosa in primavera, e come i gigli lungo il corso delle acque;
9 like fire and incense in the censer, like a massive golden vessel encrusted with every kind of preciousstone,	9 come [ramo di] resina odorosa in tempo d'estate, e come il fuoco fiammante e l'incenso che brucia sul fuoco;
10 like an olive tree loaded with fruit, like a cypress soaring to the clouds;	10 come vaso d'oro massiccio ornato d'ogni sorta di pietre preziose;
11 when he took his ceremonial robe and put on his magnificent ornaments, when he went up to the holyaltar and fil ed the sanctuary precincts with his grandeur;	11 come l'olivo germogliente, e come il cipresso che si slancia in alto! Quando indossava il manto di gloria, e si rivestiva de' suoi paramenti solenni,
12 when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, himself standing by the altar hearth,crowned with the circle of his brothers, as a cedar of Lebanon is by its foliage, as though surrounded by thetrunks of palm trees.	12 quando saliva all'altare santo, dava splendore al recinto del santuario.
13 When all the sons of Aaron in their glory, with the offerings of the Lord in their hands, stood before thewhole assembly of Israel,	13 Quando riceveva le parti [delle vittime] dalla mano de' sacerdoti ed egli se ne stava ritto presso l'altare, l'attorniava una corona di fratelli, come rampolli di cedro sul monte Libano:
14 while he completed the rites at the altars, nobly presenting the offerings to the Almighty, Most High!	14 lo circondavano come rami di palme tutti i figliuoli d'Aronne nel loro splendore,
15 He would reach out his hand to the cup and pour a libation of wine, pouring it at the foot of the altar, afragrance pleasing to the Most High, King of All;	15 e l'oblazione del Signore era nelle loro mani, alla vista di tutta l'adunanza d'Israele.
16 then the sons of Aaron would shout and blow their metal trumpets, making a mighty sound ring out asa reminder before the Most High;	16 Stendeva la sua mano alla [coppa della] liberazione, e libava il sangue dell'uva:
17 and immediately the people al together would fal on their faces to the ground, in adoration of theirLord, the Almighty, God Most High,	17 [lo] versava sul basamento dell'altare, [come] divine profumo all'Eccelso, al [gran] Re.
18 and with the cantors chanting their hymns of praise. Sweet was the melody of al these voices,	18 Allora alzavan la voce i figliuoli d'Aronne, e davan flato alle ben lavorate trombe, e facevan risonare grandi grida, in ricordo al cospetto di Dio.
19 as the people pleaded with the Lord Most High and prayed in the presence of the Merciful, until theservice of the Lord was completed and the ceremony at an end.	19 Allora tutto il popolo s'affrettava, e cadeva con la faccia in terra, per adorare il Signore Iddio suo, e inalzar preghiere all'onnipotente Iddio, all'Altissimo.
20 Then he would come down and raise his hands over the whole assembly of the Israelites, to give themthe Lord's blessing from his lips, being privileged to pronounce his name;	20 E [lo] magnificavano i cantori con le loro voci, e nella gran casa risonava la melodia soave.
21 and once again the people would bow low to receive the blessing of the Most High.	21 E il popolo supplicava il Signore altissimo, [e s'effondeva] in preghiere [dinanzi al Misericordioso], fino a che fosse terminato il culto del Signore, e [i sacerdoti] avessero compiuto il loro ministero.
22 And now bless the God of al things, the doer of great deeds everywhere, who has exalted our daysfrom the womb and has acted merciful y towards us.	22 Allora scendendo [il sommo sacerdote] levava le sue mani, su tutta l'adunanza de' figliuoli d'Israele; per dar gloria a Dio con le sue labbra, e gloriarsi nel suo nome.
23 May he grant us cheerful hearts and bring peace in our time, in Israel for ages on ages.	23 E replicava la sua orazione, volendo mostrare la potenza di Dio.
24 May his mercy be faithfully with us, may he redeem us in our own times!	24 E ora benedite Iddio [il Signore], di tutti, che grandi cose ha fatto su tutta la terra; che ha accresciuto i nostri giorni dal seno di nostra madre, e ha agito con noi a seconda della sua misericordia.
25 There are two nations that my soul detests, the third is not a nation at al :	25 Ci dia egli la gioia del cuore, e che la pace torni a' dì nostri in Israele in sempiterno;
26 the inhabitants of Mount Seir, the Philistines, and the stupid people living at Shechem.	26 e creda Israele che la misericordia di Dio è con noi, per liberarci a' suoi giorni.
27 Instruction in wisdom and knowledge is what has been written in this book by Jesus son of SiraEleazar of Jerusalem, who has poured a rain of wisdom from his heart.	27 Due popoli abomina l'anima mia, e il terzo che odio, non è [neppure] un popolo:
28 Blessed is he who devotes his time to these and grows wise by taking them to heart!	28 quei che risiedono sul monte di Seir e i Filistei, e lo stolto popolo che abita in Sichem.
29 If he practises them he will be strong enough for anything, since the light of the Lord is his path.	29 Saggi e dotti insegnamenti scrisse in questo libro Gesù, figliuolo di Sirach, Gerosolimitano, ch'effuse la sapienza del suo cuore.
	30 Beato colui che si occupa di tali beni: chi gli accoglie in cuor suo, sarà ognora sapiente.
	31 Se invero praticherà questi insegnamenti, riuscirà in ogni cosa, perchè la luce del Signore è la sua traccia.
