Sirach 50

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 It was the High Priest Simon son of Onias who repaired the Temple during his lifetime and in his day fortified the sanctuary.	1 Simone, figlio di Onia, sommo sacerdote, nella sua vita riparò il tempio e nei suoi giorni consolidò il santuario.
2 He laid the foundations of double depth, the high buttresses of the Temple precincts.	2 Da lui furono poste le fondamenta del doppio muro, l’elevato contrafforte della cinta del tempio.
3 In his day the pool was excavated, a reservoir as huge as the sea.	3 Nei suoi giorni fu scavato il deposito per le acque, un serbatoio grande come il mare.
4 Anxious to save the people from ruin, he fortified the city against siege.	4 Avendo premura d’impedire la caduta del suo popolo, fortificò la città nell’assedio.
5 How splendid he was with the people thronging round him, when he emerged from the curtained shrine,	5 Com’era glorioso quando si affacciava dal tempio, quando usciva dal santuario dietro il velo!
6 like the morning star among the clouds, like the moon at the ful ,	6 Come astro mattutino in mezzo alle nubi, come la luna nei giorni in cui è piena,
7 like the sun shining on the Temple of the Most High, like the rainbow gleaming against bril iant clouds,	7 come sole sfolgorante sul tempio dell’Altissimo, come arcobaleno splendente fra nubi di gloria,
8 like a rose in springtime, like a lily by a spring, like a branch of the incense tree in summer,	8 come rosa fiorita nei giorni di primavera, come giglio lungo i corsi d’acqua, come germoglio del Libano nei giorni d’estate,
9 like fire and incense in the censer, like a massive golden vessel encrusted with every kind of preciousstone,	9 come fuoco e incenso su un braciere, come vaso d’oro massiccio, ornato con ogni specie di pietre preziose,
10 like an olive tree loaded with fruit, like a cypress soaring to the clouds;	10 come ulivo che fa germogliare i frutti e come cipresso svettante tra le nuvole.
11 when he took his ceremonial robe and put on his magnificent ornaments, when he went up to the holyaltar and fil ed the sanctuary precincts with his grandeur;	11 Quando indossava i paramenti gloriosi, egli era rivestito di perfetto splendore, quando saliva il santo altare dei sacrifici, riempiva di gloria l’intero santuario.
12 when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, himself standing by the altar hearth,crowned with the circle of his brothers, as a cedar of Lebanon is by its foliage, as though surrounded by thetrunks of palm trees.	12 Quando riceveva le parti delle vittime dalle mani dei sacerdoti, egli stava presso il braciere dell’altare: intorno a lui c’era la corona di fratelli, simili a fronde di cedri nel Libano, che lo circondavano come fusti di palme;
13 When all the sons of Aaron in their glory, with the offerings of the Lord in their hands, stood before thewhole assembly of Israel,	13 tutti i figli di Aronne nella loro gloria, e con le offerte del Signore nelle loro mani, stavano davanti a tutta l’assemblea d’Israele,
14 while he completed the rites at the altars, nobly presenting the offerings to the Almighty, Most High!	14 ed egli compiva il rito liturgico sugli altari, preparando l’offerta dell’Altissimo onnipotente.
15 He would reach out his hand to the cup and pour a libation of wine, pouring it at the foot of the altar, afragrance pleasing to the Most High, King of All;	15 Egli stendeva la sua mano sulla coppa e versava sangue di uva, lo spargeva alle basi dell’altare come profumo soave all’Altissimo, re di tutte le cose.
16 then the sons of Aaron would shout and blow their metal trumpets, making a mighty sound ring out asa reminder before the Most High;	16 Allora i figli di Aronne alzavano la voce, suonavano le trombe di metallo lavorato e facevano udire un suono potente come memoriale davanti all’Altissimo.
17 and immediately the people al together would fal on their faces to the ground, in adoration of theirLord, the Almighty, God Most High,	17 Allora tutto il popolo insieme si affrettava e si prostravano con la faccia a terra, per adorare il loro Signore, Dio onnipotente e altissimo.
18 and with the cantors chanting their hymns of praise. Sweet was the melody of al these voices,	18 E i cantori intonavano canti di lodi, e grandioso risuonava il canto e pieno di dolcezza.
19 as the people pleaded with the Lord Most High and prayed in the presence of the Merciful, until theservice of the Lord was completed and the ceremony at an end.	19 Il popolo supplicava il Signore altissimo, in preghiera davanti al Misericordioso, finché fosse compiuto il servizio del Signore e fosse terminata la sua liturgia.
20 Then he would come down and raise his hands over the whole assembly of the Israelites, to give themthe Lord's blessing from his lips, being privileged to pronounce his name;	20 Allora, scendendo, egli alzava le sue mani su tutta l’assemblea dei figli d’Israele, per dare con le sue labbra la benedizione del Signore e per gloriarsi del nome di lui.
21 and once again the people would bow low to receive the blessing of the Most High.	21 Tutti si prostravano di nuovo per ricevere la benedizione dell’Altissimo.
22 And now bless the God of al things, the doer of great deeds everywhere, who has exalted our daysfrom the womb and has acted merciful y towards us.	22 E ora benedite il Dio dell’universo, che compie in ogni luogo grandi cose, che fa crescere i nostri giorni fin dal seno materno, e agisce con noi secondo la sua misericordia.
23 May he grant us cheerful hearts and bring peace in our time, in Israel for ages on ages.	23 Ci conceda la gioia del cuore e ci sia pace nei nostri giorni in Israele, ora e sempre.
24 May his mercy be faithfully with us, may he redeem us in our own times!	24 La sua misericordia resti fedelmente con noi e ci riscatti nei nostri giorni.
25 There are two nations that my soul detests, the third is not a nation at al :	25 Contro due popoli la mia anima è irritata, il terzo non è neppure un popolo:
26 the inhabitants of Mount Seir, the Philistines, and the stupid people living at Shechem.	26 quanti abitano sul monte di Samaria e i Filistei e il popolo stolto che abita a Sichem.
27 Instruction in wisdom and knowledge is what has been written in this book by Jesus son of SiraEleazar of Jerusalem, who has poured a rain of wisdom from his heart.	27 Una dottrina d’intelligenza e di scienza ha condensato in questo libro Gesù, figlio di Sira, figlio di Eleàzaro, di Gerusalemme, che ha riversato come pioggia la sapienza dal cuore.
28 Blessed is he who devotes his time to these and grows wise by taking them to heart!	28 Beato chi medita queste cose e colui che, fissandole nel suo cuore, diventa saggio;
29 If he practises them he will be strong enough for anything, since the light of the Lord is his path.	29 se le metterà in pratica, sarà forte in tutto, perché la luce del Signore sarà la sua strada. A chi gli è fedele egli dà la sapienza. Benedetto il Signore per sempre. Amen, amen.
