Sirach 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Vain and deceptive hopes are for the foolish, and dreams lend wings to fools.	1 Speranze vane e illusioni ha l'insipiente, e i sogni dan baldanza agl'insensati.
2 As wel clutch at shadows and chase the wind as put any faith in dreams.	2 Come chi agguanta un'ombra e corre dietro al vento, cosi chi bada a' sogni fallaci.
3 Dreams are no different from mirrors; confronting a face, the reflection of that face.	3 Cosa di fronte a cosa é la visione del sogno, [quale] l'immagine d'un uomo di fronte all'uomo.
4 What can be cleansed by uncleanness, what can be verified by falsehood?	4 Da [fonte] Impuro che potrà uscir di puro? e da ciò ch'è bugiardo che cosa s'avrà di vero?
5 Divinations, auguries and dreams are nonsense, like the fantasies of a pregnant woman.	5 Divinazione falsa, auguri bugiardi e sogni di malvagi, son vanità, e come [il cuore] d'una partoriente va fantasticando il tuo cuore.
6 Unless sent as emissaries from the Most High, do not give them a thought;	6 Salvo che [que' sogni] non sian mandati dal l'Altissimo, che ti visita, non por mente ad essi.
7 for dreams have led many astray, and those who relied on them have come to grief.	7 Molti invero furon tratti in errore da' sogni, e quel che ci speravano, rimaser delusi.
8 Fulfil ing the Law requires no such falsehood, and wisdom is perfected in veracity.	8 Senza Inganno [invece] si compie la parola della legge e la sapienza in bocca del fedele si appiana.
9 A much travel ed man knows many things, and a man of great experience wil talk sound sense.	9 Chi non è stato provato, che sa egli? L'uomo sperimentato in molte cose, sa molto, e chi ha imparato molto, ragiona con saggezza.
10 Someone who has never had his trials knows little; but the travel ed man is master of every situation.	10 Chi non ha provato, poco sa: ma chi è andato in qua e in là, ha molto accorgimento.
11 I have seen many things on my travels, I have understood more than I can put into words.	11 Chi non è stato provato, che sa egli? ma chi è stato raggirato, abbonda in scaltrezza.
12 I have often been in danger of death, but I have been spared, and this is why:	12 Molte cose ho visto vagando qua e là, e il mio sapere va oltre le mie parole.
13 the spirit of those who fear the Lord can survive, for their hope is in someone with power to save them.	13 Talvolta fui persino in pericolo di morte, a cagione di ciò e fui salvo per la grazia di Dio.
14 No one who fears the Lord need ever hesitate, or ever be daunted, since the Lord is his hope.	14 Lo spirito di quelli che temono il Signore vivrà e dallo sguardo di lui sarà benedetto.
15 Happy the soul of one who fears the Lord. On whom does he rely? Who supports him?	15 La speranza di loro è in colui che li salva, e gli occhi di Dio su quelli che lo amano.
16 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who love him, he is their powerful protection and their strongsupport, their screen from the desert wind, their shelter from the midday sun, a guard against stumbling, anassurance against a fal .	16 Chi teme il Signore non tremerà di nulla e non avrà paura perchè è egli la sua speranza.
17 He revives the spirit and brightens the eyes, he gives health, life and blessing.	17 Beata l'anima di chi teme il Signore!
18 The sacrifice of an offering unjustly acquired is a mockery; the gifts of the impious are unacceptable.	18 a chi guarda egli e chi è il suo sostegno?
19 The Most High takes no pleasure in offerings from the godless, multiplying sacrifices wil not gainpardon for sin.	19 Gli occhi del Signore son sopra coloro che lo temono: egli è un protettore potente, un forte sostegno, un riparo contro il vento infocato [dell'Oriente] e uno schermo contro [il caldo] del mezzodì,
20 Offering sacrifice from the property of the poor is as bad as slaughtering a son before his father'seyes.	20 una salvaguardia dall'inciampare e un aiuto contro le cadute colui che innalza l'anima e illumina gli occhi che dà salute e vita e benedizione.
21 A meagre diet is the very life of the poor, to deprive them of it is to commit murder.	21 L'offerta di chi sacrifica cosa mal acquistata è immonda [e irrisoria], nè sono accette [a Dio] le irrisioni degli iniqui.
22 To take away a fel ow-man's livelihood is to kil him, to deprive an employee of his wages is to shedblood.	22 Il Signore [è] solo per quelli che si mantengono nella via della verità e della giustizia.
23 If one person builds while another pul s down, what wil they get out of it but trouble?	23 I doni degli empi non gradisce l'Altissimo, e non degna d'uno sguardo le offerte degl'iniqui, per molti che siano i loro sacrifizi, perdona i peccati.
24 If one person prays and another cal s down a curse, to which one's voice is the Master going to listen?	24 Chi offre un sacrifizio con la roba de' poveri, è come chi scanna un figliuolo sotto gli occhi del padre.
25 If someone washes after touching a corpse, and then touches it again, what is the good of hiswashing?	25 Il pane de' bisognosi è la vita de' poveri: chi lo ruba è un assassino.
26 Just so with someone who fasts for sin, and then goes and commits it again. Who is going to hear thatperson's prayer? What is the good of the self-abasement?	26 Chi toglie a uno il sudato pane, è come chi uccide il prossimo:
	27 chi sparge il sangue e chi defrauda il mercenario son fratelli.
	28 Uno fabbrica e l'altro distrugge: che ci guadagnano se non la fatica?
	29 Uno prega e l'altro impreca: di chi ascolterà la voce il Signore?
	30 Chi si lava a motivo d'un morto e [poi] novamente lo tocca a che giova la sua abluzione?
	31 Cosi l'uomo che digiuna per i suoi peccati, e [poi] novamente commette le stesse cose:
	32 che gli giova l'essersi umiliato, e chi ascolterà la sua preghiera?
