Sirach 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Vain and deceptive hopes are for the foolish, and dreams lend wings to fools.	1 Speranze vane e fallaci sono quelle dello stolto, e i sogni danno le ali a chi è privo di senno.
2 As wel clutch at shadows and chase the wind as put any faith in dreams.	2 Come uno che afferra le ombre e insegue il vento, così è per chi si appoggia sui sogni.
3 Dreams are no different from mirrors; confronting a face, the reflection of that face.	3 Una cosa di fronte all’altra: tale è la visione dei sogni, di fronte a un volto l’immagine di un volto.
4 What can be cleansed by uncleanness, what can be verified by falsehood?	4 Dall’impuro che cosa potrà uscire di puro? E dal falso che cosa potrà uscire di vero?
5 Divinations, auguries and dreams are nonsense, like the fantasies of a pregnant woman.	5 Oracoli, presagi e sogni sono cose fatue, come vaneggia la mente di una donna che ha le doglie.
6 Unless sent as emissaries from the Most High, do not give them a thought;	6 Se non sono una visione inviata dall’Altissimo, non permettere che se ne occupi la tua mente.
7 for dreams have led many astray, and those who relied on them have come to grief.	7 I sogni hanno indotto molti in errore, e andarono in rovina quelli che vi avevano sperato.
8 Fulfil ing the Law requires no such falsehood, and wisdom is perfected in veracity.	8 La legge deve compiersi senza inganno, e la sapienza è perfetta sulla bocca di chi è fedele.
9 A much travel ed man knows many things, and a man of great experience wil talk sound sense.	9 Chi ha viaggiato conosce molte cose, chi ha molta esperienza parla con intelligenza.
10 Someone who has never had his trials knows little; but the travel ed man is master of every situation.	10 Chi non ha avuto prove, poco conosce;
11 I have seen many things on my travels, I have understood more than I can put into words.	11 chi ha viaggiato ha una grande accortezza.
12 I have often been in danger of death, but I have been spared, and this is why:	12 Ho visto molte cose nei miei viaggi, il mio sapere è più che le mie parole.
13 the spirit of those who fear the Lord can survive, for their hope is in someone with power to save them.	13 Spesso ho corso pericoli mortali, ma mi sono salvato grazie alla mia esperienza.
14 No one who fears the Lord need ever hesitate, or ever be daunted, since the Lord is his hope.	14 Lo spirito di quelli che temono il Signore vivrà,
15 Happy the soul of one who fears the Lord. On whom does he rely? Who supports him?	15 perché la loro speranza è posta in colui che li salva.
16 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who love him, he is their powerful protection and their strongsupport, their screen from the desert wind, their shelter from the midday sun, a guard against stumbling, anassurance against a fal .	16 Chi teme il Signore non ha paura di nulla e non si spaventa perché è lui la sua speranza.
17 He revives the spirit and brightens the eyes, he gives health, life and blessing.	17 Beato colui che teme il Signore.
18 The sacrifice of an offering unjustly acquired is a mockery; the gifts of the impious are unacceptable.	18 A chi si appoggia? Chi è il suo sostegno?
19 The Most High takes no pleasure in offerings from the godless, multiplying sacrifices wil not gainpardon for sin.	19 Gli occhi del Signore sono su quelli che lo amano; egli è protezione potente e sostegno vigoroso, riparo dal vento infuocato e dal sole meridiano, difesa contro gli ostacoli, soccorso nella caduta.
20 Offering sacrifice from the property of the poor is as bad as slaughtering a son before his father'seyes.	20 Il Signore solleva l’anima e illumina gli occhi, concede guarigione, vita e benedizione.
21 A meagre diet is the very life of the poor, to deprive them of it is to commit murder.	21 Sacrificare il frutto dell’ingiustizia è un’offerta da scherno
22 To take away a fel ow-man's livelihood is to kil him, to deprive an employee of his wages is to shedblood.	22 e i doni dei malvagi non sono graditi.
23 If one person builds while another pul s down, what wil they get out of it but trouble?	23 L’Altissimo non gradisce le offerte degli empi né perdona i peccati secondo il numero delle vittime.
24 If one person prays and another cal s down a curse, to which one's voice is the Master going to listen?	24 Sacrifica un figlio davanti al proprio padre chi offre un sacrificio con i beni dei poveri.
25 If someone washes after touching a corpse, and then touches it again, what is the good of hiswashing?	25 Il pane dei bisognosi è la vita dei poveri, colui che glielo toglie è un sanguinario.
26 Just so with someone who fasts for sin, and then goes and commits it again. Who is going to hear thatperson's prayer? What is the good of the self-abasement?	26 Uccide il prossimo chi gli toglie il nutrimento,
	27 versa sangue chi rifiuta il salario all’operaio.
	28 Uno edifica e l’altro abbatte: che vantaggio ne ricavano, oltre la fatica?
	29 Uno prega e l’altro maledice: quale delle due voci ascolterà il Signore?
	30 Chi si purifica per un morto e lo tocca di nuovo, quale vantaggio ha nella sua abluzione?
	31 Così l’uomo che digiuna per i suoi peccati e poi va e li commette di nuovo: chi ascolterà la sua supplica? Quale vantaggio ha nell’essersi umiliato?
