Sirach 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Children, listen to me for I am your father: do what I tel you, and so be safe;	1 figliuoli della sapienza formano la società de' giusti, e la lor progenie è obbedienza e amore.
2 for the Lord honours the father above his children and upholds the rights of a mother over her sons.	2 Figliuoli, ascoltate la parola del padre, e fate in modo daxesser salvi.
3 Whoever respects a father expiates sins,	3 Perchè il Signore volle il padre onorato da' figliuoli, e, vindice del diritto della madre, lo rese saldo sui figliuoli.
4 whoever honours a mother is like someone amassing a fortune.	4 Chi onora il padre impetrerà [il perdono] per i peccati, e se ne asterrà e sarà esaudito nell'orazione d'ogni giorno:
5 Whoever respects a father will in turn be happy with children, the day he prays for help, he will be heard.	5 e come chi accumula tesori è colui che onora sua madre.
6 Long life comes to anyone who honours a father, whoever obeys the Lord makes a mother happy.	6 Chi onora il padre, sarà allietato da' figliuoli, e nel giorno della sua preghiera sarà esaudito.
7 Such a one serves parents as wel as the Lord.	7 Chi riverisce il padre, avrà lunga vita, e chi ubbidisce al Signore, consolerà sua madre.
8 Respect your father in deed as wel as word, so that blessing may come on you from him;	8 Chi teme il Signore, onora i genitori, e, come a padroni, servirà a quelli che l'han generato.
9 since a father's blessing makes his children's house firm, while a mother's curse tears up its foundations.	9 A fatti e in parole e con ogni sapienza onora tuo padre,
10 Do not make a boast of disgrace overtaking your father, your father's disgrace reflects no honour onyou;	10 affinchè scenda su di te la benedizione di lui, e la sua benedizione rimanga [con te] sino all'ultimo.
11 for a person's own honour derives from the respect shown to his father, and a mother held in dishonouris a reproach to her children.	11 La benedizione del padre rafforza le case de' figliuoli; e la maledizione della madre ne sradica le fondamenta.
12 My child, support your father in his old age, do not grieve him during his life.	12 Non ti gloriare dell'ignominia del padre tuo, chè non è gloria per te il suo disonore.
13 Even if his mind should fail, show him sympathy, do not despise him in your health and strength;	13 La gloria invero di uno [deriva] dall'onore del padre suo, e obbrobrio del figliuolo è una madre diffamata.
14 for kindness to a father will not be forgotten but wil serve as reparation for your sins.	14 Figliuolo, prendi cura della vecchiaia di tuo padre, e non lo contristare in vita sua.
15 On your own day of ordeal God wil remember you: like frost in sunshine, your sins wil melt away.	15 E s'egll è svanito di mente, compatisci, e non lo disprezzar nel tuo vigore. Perchè la pietà verso il padre non sarà dimenticata,
16 Whoever deserts a father is no better than a blasphemer, and whoever distresses a mother is accursedof the Lord.	16 e per i difetti della madre, ti si renderà bene,
17 My child, be gentle in carrying out your business, and you will be better loved than a lavish giver.	17 con giustizia si fabbricherà per te. Nel giorno della tribolazione s'avrà di te memoria, e come ghiaccio in una bella giornata si struggeranno i tuoi peccati.
18 The greater you are, the more humbly you should behave, and then you wil find favour with the Lord;	18 Simile a un infame [bestemmiatore] è chi abbandona il padre, e maledetto dal Signore chi esaspera la madre!
19	19 Figliuolo, con mansuetudine compi le tue opere, e oltre il plauso degli uomini, n'avrai l'affetto,
20 for great though the power of the Lord is, he accepts the homage of the humble.	20 Quanto più tu sei grande, [tanto più] umiliati in tutto, al cospetto del Signore troverai grazia.
21 Do not try to understand things that are too difficult for you, or try to discover what is beyond yourpowers.	21 Perchè grande è la potenza del solo Signore, e dagli umili è glorificato.
22 Concentrate on what has been assigned you, you have no need to worry over mysteries.	22 Non cercar quel ch'è al di sopra di te, e non scrutare ciò che sorpassa le tue forze. Ma a ciò che t'è comandato da Dio, a quello pensa sempre, e non esser curioso delle molte opere di lui,
23 Do not meddle with matters that are beyond you; what you have been taught already exceeds thescope of the human mind.	23 perchè non è necessario per te veder co' tuoi occhi le cose nascoste.
24 For many have been misled by their own notions, wicked presumption having warped their judgement.	24 Non ti stillare il cervello per cose superflue e non esser curioso delle molte opere di lui,
25	25 perchè più cose ti furon [già] mostrate, che non comporti l'umana intelligenza.
26 A stubborn heart wil come to a bad end, and whoever dal ies with danger wil perish in it.	26 Molti sedusse la propria opinione, e nella vanità li ritenne il lor sentimento.
27 A stubborn heart is weighed down with troubles, the sinner heaps sin on sin.	27 Il cuore ostinato si ritroverà male alla fine, e chi ama il pericolo, perirà in esso.
28 For the disease of the proud there is no cure, since an evil growth has taken root there.	28 Un cuore che batte due vie, non avrà successi, e il perverso di cuore ci troverà un inciampo.
29 The heart of the sensible wil reflect on parables, an attentive ear is the sage's dream.	29 Il cuore duro sarà oppresso da travagli, e il peccatore tornerà ancora a peccare.
30 Water puts out a blazing fire, almsgiving expiates sins.	30 Alla calamità de' superbi non ci sarà rimedio, perchè la pianta della malvagità metterà radice in essi, senza che se ne avvedano.
31 Whoever gives favours in return is mindful of the future; at the moment of falling, such a person wil findsupport.	31 Il cuore del savio si riconosce alla sapienza, e l'orecchio buono ascolterà con ogni brama la sapienza.
	32 il cuore saggio e intelligente s'asterrà da peccati, e nelle opere di giustizia avrà successi.
	33 Il fuoco ardente lo spenge l'acqua, e l'elemosina espia i peccati.
	34 Iddio osserva colui che rende grazie, e se ne ricorda più tardi, e nel tempo della sua caduta egli troverà un sostegno.
