NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 She made their actions successful, by means of a holy prophet.	1 Ella hizo prosperar sus empresas gracias a un santo profeta.
2 They journeyed through an unpeopled desert and pitched their tents in inaccessible places.	2 Ellos atravesaron un desierto inhabitable y levantaron sus carpas en lugares intransitados;
3 They stood firm against their enemies, fought off their foes.	3 enfrentaron a sus enemigos y rechazaron a sus adversarios.
4 On you they cal ed when they were thirsty, and from the rocky cliff water was given them, from hardstone a remedy for their thirst.	4 Cuando estaban sedientos, te invocaron, y una roca escarpada les dio agua, una dura piedra les calmó la sed.
5 Thus, what had served to punish their enemies became a benefit for them in their difficulties.	5 Así, lo mismo que sirvió de castigo a sus enemigos fue para ellos un beneficio en sus dificultades.
6 Whereas their enemies had only the ever-flowing source of a river fouled with mingled blood and mud,	6 En lugar de la vertiente perenne de un río, enturbiado por una mezcla de sangre y barro,
7 to punish them for their decree of infanticide, you gave your people, against al hope, water inabundance,	7 como castigo por un decreto infanticida, les diste, contra toda esperanza, un agua abundante,
8 once you had shown by the thirst that they were experiencing how severely you were punishing theirenemies.	8 mostrándoles por la sed que soportaron entonces cómo habías castigado a sus adversarios.
9 From their own ordeals, which were only loving correction, they realised how an angry sentence wastormenting the godless;	9 Por la prueba a que fueron sometidos, aunque eran corregidos con misericordia, comprendieron los tormentos que soportaban los impíos, al ser juzgados con ira.
10 for you had tested your own as a father admonishes, but the others you had punished as a pitilessking condemns,	10 Porque a ellos los probaste como un padre que reprende, pero a los otros los sentenciaste como un rey implacable que condena.
11 and, whether far or near, they were equal y afflicted.	11 Y tanto lejos como cerca de los tuyos, estaban igualmente atribulados,
12 For a double sorrow seized on them, and a groaning at the memory of the past;	12 ya que una doble tristeza se apoderó de ellos y gimieron al recordar el pasado:
13 when they learned that the punishments they were receiving were beneficial to the others, theyrealised it was the Lord,	13 cuando comprendieron que lo que a ellos los castigaba había sido un beneficio para los otros, sintieron la mano del Señor.
14 while for the man whom long before they had exposed and later mockingly rebuffed, they felt onlyadmiration when al was done, having suffered a thirst so different from that of the upright.	14 Al que antes habían hecho exponer al peligro, y luego rechazaron con desprecio, lo admiraron al final de los acontecimientos, admiraron al que antes habían abandonado en las aguas después de sufrir una sed muy diferente a la de los justos.
15 For their foolish and wicked notions which led them astray into worshipping mindless reptiles andcontemptible beetles, you sent a horde of mindless animals to punish them	15 A causa de sus insensatos e injustos pensamientos, que los extraviaban hasta hacerles rendir culto a reptiles irracionales y a insectos despreciables, tú les enviaste como castigo una multitud de animales irracionales,
16 and to teach them that the agent of sin is the agent of punishment.	16 para que comprendieran que uno es castigado con lo mismo que le sirve para pecar.
17 And indeed your al -powerful hand which created the world from formless matter, did not lack meansto unleash a horde of bears or savage lions on them	17 Ya que tu mano omnipotente, aquella que creó el mundo de una materia informe bien podía enviar contra ellos una multitud de osos o de leones feroces,
18 or unknown beasts, newly created, ful of rage, breathing out fire, or puffing out stinking smoke, orflashing fearful sparks from their eyes,	18 o fieras desconocidas creadas expresamente, llenas de furor, que exhalaran un aliento de fuego, despidieran un humo nauseabundo, o lanzaran de sus ojos terribles rayos:
19 beasts able not only to destroy them, being so savage, but even to strike them dead by their terrifyingappearance.	19 animales capaces, no sólo de destruirlos de un zarpazo, sino de hacerlos perecer con su aspecto terrorífico.
20 However, without these, one breath could have blown them over, pursued by Justice, whirled awayby the breath of your power. You, however, ordered all things by measure, number and weight.	20 Aún sin esto, ellos podían ser derribados de un soplo, perseguidos por la Justicia, barridos por el soplo de tu poder. Pero tú lo has dispuesto todo con medida, número y peso.
21 For your great power is always at your service, and who can withstand the might of your arm?	21 Tu inmenso poder está siempre a tu disposición, ¿y quién puede resistir a la fuerza de tu brazo?
22 The whole world, for you, can no more than tip a balance, like a drop of morning dew falling on theground.	22 El mundo entero es delante de ti como un grano de polvo que apenas inclina la balanza, como una gota de rocío matinal que cae sobre la tierra.
23 Yet you are merciful to al , because you are almighty, you overlook people's sins, so that they canrepent.	23 Tú te compadeces de todos, porque todo lo puedes, y apartas los ojos de los pecados de los hombres para que ellos se conviertan.
24 Yes, you love everything that exists, and nothing that you have made disgusts you, since, if you hadhated something, you would not have made it.	24 Tú amas todo lo que existe y no aborreces nada de lo que has hecho, porque si hubieras odiado algo, no lo habrías creado.
25 And how could a thing subsist, had you not wil ed it? Or how be preserved, if not cal ed forth by you?	25 ¿Cómo podría subsistir una cosa si tú no quisieras? ¿Cómo se conservaría si no la hubieras llamado?
26 No, you spare al , since al is yours, Lord, lover of life!	26 Pero tú eres indulgente con todos, ya que todo es tuyo, Señor que amas la vida,
